EHLI Dear Parishioners, I pray that your Lent is off to a good start and that you continue to hold fast to your Lenten penitential practices. With great joy we announced last week that Bishop Kagan plans to send Deacon Ben Franchuk to the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit following his ordination to the priesthood in June. Deacon Franchuk grew up in Dickinson, graduated from Trinity High School, and his home parish is Queen of Peace Church. He received a degree in mechanical engineering from the South Dakota School of Mines in 2012. He joined the seminary in 2014 and is completing his initial formation at Kenrick-Glennon Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri. We look forward to welcoming him to our parish. Please remember to keep Deacon Franchuk and all of the diocesan seminarians in your prayers. The Sunday 1:30 PM mask-required Mass starts this weekend, and we thank you for the positive response to the addition of this Mass. As I mentioned last week, wearing a mask at all Masses is encouraged. We will continue to monitor our practices and make adjustments as needed to allow us all to arrive at Easter healthy, happy, and holy. As always, if you are feeling sick, please stay home. If you have questions or concerns regarding the Mass obligation, you are always welcome to email me at [email protected] or call the parish office. Regarding holy water, we are planning to refill the holy water fonts at the Easter Vigil. Nevertheless, all of the faithful are strongly encouraged to continue the good practice of blessing themselves with holy water, whether in the church or at home. Fresh holy water and refillable bottles are located in the gathering space. May your week be blessed! Fr. Ehli Proceeds go to the Cathedral Conference of St. Vincent de Paul & the Knights of Columbus. PLEASE NOTE: The Cathedral is now offering a mask-required Mass on Sundays at 1:30 PM. Franchuk

Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of both fasting and abstinence. All Fridays during

Lent are days of abstinence.*† Fasting: Catholics who are ages 18 to 59 are

obliged to fast. When fasting, a person is permitted to eat one full meal. Two smaller meals may also be taken, but not to equal a full meal.

† Abstinence: Catholics from age 14 onwards are bound to abstain from consuming meat.

*Exceptions include those who are physically and mentally ill (including chronic illnesses like diabetes) as well as pregnant and nursing women. The Church teaches that common sense should prevail so that a person does not further jeopardize their health because of the fasting requirements.
