Dear Parishioners, The lesson we have to learn from today's Gospel hardly needs any emphasizing. We must, if we are truly Christian, forgive those who offend or injure us. We must love all, whether they are friends or enemies. Charity begins at home, because it is there that it can and should be learned and practiced. It is first and foremost neces-sary for there to be peace in the home. Husband and wife must learn to understand and tolerate each other's imperfections and faults. If there is peace and harmony between husband and wife, as there will be if both are truly charitable, the children will learn to be understanding and forgiving. Our charity must spread from the home to our neighbors–to all those with whom we have contact. It is easy to get along with most people, but in every neighborhood and in every town there will always be those who are difficult. There will be the dishonest, the quarrelsome, the critic of everyone and everything. It is when we have dealings with such people that our Christian charity is most necessary. Most likely we will never be able to change their ways of acting, but charity will enable us to toler-ate their faults and will move us to pray for their eternal welfare. Lent is a great time to work on Christian Charity. This week’s Disciple of the Week is Bob Bazzarelli. Bob is one of the most joyful men I know. He is a champion of everything he does. He has been a great advisor to me as the chair of our Education Endowment Board. He has helped us to maintain it and even grow it a bit, while at the same time doing things like a strategic marketing plan for the school, playground, HVAC work, and GAELC. He is a faithful worker at the lemonade stand every festival. He always has kind words for everyone. Thanks Bob! Lent begins this a week! Ash Wednesday is February 26. Masses will be at 8:00 am, 12:00 Noon, and 6:30 pm. New this year is a simplified Fish Fry on Ash Wednesday. It will be open from 4:30 – 6:30 pm and include Fish, Fries, Mac & Cheese, and Salad. $2 of every meal purchased will go to CRS Rice Bowl which is designating the funds this year to go to fight and end world hunger! Please mark you calendar and plan on attending. Also, Fish Fries will be every Friday of Lent, including Good Friday. Another new feature this year will be curbside pick up. You can order and then have it brought right to your car for pick up. Don’t forget Mass and Sta-tions of the Cross at 7:00 pm every Friday. Starting Monday, March 9, and continuing every Monday for five weeks is a Bible Study. Filmed on location in the Holy Land, No Greater Love is a five-part video series and full-length book that reveals Christ’s amazing love for us. Best-selling author Edward Sri guides you through the last hours of Christ's life in this biblical pilgrimage. While taking this study or reading this book, you will walk step-by-step with Jesus from the Garden of Gethsemane to the Mount of Calvary. Every step of the way, biblical ex-perts reveal how Old Testament prophecies, messianic expectations, biblical symbolism, and historical context shed light on the mystery of Christ's suffering and death. With these insights, Catholics can come to a deeper understanding and apprecia-tion of God’s immeasurable and unconditional love—drawing closer to Jesus than ever have before. To register, call Anita at the parish office, extension 221, or email her at [email protected]. The cost is $30 per person and includes the Book & Study Guide. Scholarships are available. Make it a great week! See you in Church. Peace, Fr. John

SRW SCHOOL & GAELC

Ss. Robert and William Catholic School offers many extra-curricular activities for students. Some of these are academic in nature, others involve sports activities, and a few are just for fun! Power of the Pen is an interscholastic club that is dedicat-ed to helping students embrace the art of expression through creative writing. This year, more than 3500 students from across the state of Ohio will compete in Power of the Pen tournaments. Our team of Writing Warriors is made up of 7th and 8th graders who competed at the district level in Decem-ber; Abby Derezic, Aubrey Kennedy, Jasmin Moses, Colleen Ruth, Hannah Trihlik, Jasmine Ellul, Maura Murphy, Abby Neate, Alex Newnes, Arianna Somich, Clare Sweet, and Jayah Todd. Four of these girls, Colleen, Abby, Jayah, and Maura have qualified to move on to compete at the Regionals in March. This is the next level of competition before the state tournament in May. Good Luck, Writing Warriors – you make us SRW PROUD!

Together, we can change the faces of despair, loneliness, darkness, and addiction into FACES OF HOPE through your support of the Annual

Appeal. Being a witness to the #FacesofHope around us reminds us that, THOUGH WE ARE MANY, WE ARE ONE IN CHRIST. Your financial gift will provide essential programs and services to people through-out all eight counties of the Diocese of Cleveland. On behalf of those who are hungry and homeless, people who are alone and isolated, and families that strug-gle with poverty…Thank You!

LUKE BROWN’S REFLECTION This week’s Gospel message can be a hard one to accept. Jesus is telling us to love our enemies - a very difficult thing to put into practice. It is easy to hate those that persecute us or have a different ideology than we do, but hating others is not the Christian way. I think that as humans we find it easy to be swept into division, rivalry, and opposition to one another. Just look at the news in this electoral year. I wonder sometimes whether it’s intentional or unintentional that various news out-lets or individuals present the other end of the political spec-trum as immoral, evil, and stupid. The division that is sowed between various ideologies is corrosive to our Catholic faith and it only serves as a way for us to deny the humanity and dignity that everyone possesses. Yes, we should make our voice heard and stand up for truth, virtue, and justice in society and yes, you can be angry about injustice and evil. However, this should never be done with hatred in our hearts. Hate sin but never people. During this time in the election cycle, I’m always a little taken aback at how many clients report strug-gling with anger, anxiety, and depression citing politics as the reason. If a political discussion has caused you to stop associat-ing with certain friends, family members, or coworkers, you may need to reflect on today’s Gospel and examine what is going on in your heart. Also, consider reflecting on what an enemy is. Is an enemy someone we disagree with? Is an ene-my someone who hurts us directly or indirectly? If so, always remember that they are still a fellow human made in God’s im-age - capable of conversion, greatness, and holiness. Most of all, remember that God very much desires for you AND your enemy to both be in Heaven one day...

We are called to join our faith com-munity—and more than 14,000 Catholic communities across the United States—in a life-changing

Lenten journey with CRS Rice Bowl. Pick up your family’s CRS Rice Bowl on Ash Wednesday or next weekend. During the 40 days of Lent, we will reflect on the challenge of global hunger and how it affects our human family.
