SYNOPSIS: This course is designed to provide the NSBDE required training for dentists and hygienists. This course has also been approved for 2 hours of continuing education credit by the CDA and complies with the California Code of Regulations 1005 – Minimum Standards for Infection Control. Infection control guidelines as developed by the CDC will be addressed. Participants will review the scientific evidence about dental infection control issues and current CDC recommendations for minimizing the potential for disease transmission in the dental setting. SPEAKER: Raymond Rawson, DDS Dr. Rawson received a DDS from Loma Linda University School of Dentistry, and his MA in physical anthropology from the University of Nevada Las Vegas. He became a Diplomate of ABFO in 1978. He maintains a private dental practice in Las Vegas. Dr. Rawson is Visiting Professor for General Practice Residency and Infection Control Coordinator at UNLV School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Rawson is a Forensic Odontologist with Clark County Coroner’s Office in Las Vegas. Dr. Rawson is the Dental Director, Health Plan of Nevada/Sierra Health and Life, Quality Assurance and Utilization Review in Las Vegas. Dr. Rawson has received numerous research grants in a variety of health related topics. He lectures extensively as well as teaching specialized courses dealing with criminal justice and forensics. Dr. Rawson is also a former State Senator with the State of Nevada, serving from 1985-2001. LEARNING OBJECTIVES: At the end of this course, participants should be able to: Describe universal and standard precautions Identify and describe disease transmission and infectious hazards in the dental setting Discuss occupational exposures and prevention, post-exposure management and prophylaxis to blood borne pathogens Establish objectives, goals, and management of an infection control program in the dental setting This continuing education activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the standards of the ADA Continuing Education Recognition Program (ADA CERP). ADA CERP is a service of the American Dental Association to assist dental professionals in identifying quality providers of continuing dental education. ADA CERP does not approve or endorse individual courses or instructors, nor does it imply acceptance of credit hours by boards of dentistry. Concerns or complaints about a CE provider may be directed to the provider or to the Commission for Continuing Education Provider Recognition at ADA.org/CERP. If you cancel within two weeks of the course date you will not receive a refund, but your payment can be applied to a future course. Course credit must be used within one year from original program date.
