Our students have shared stories of fabulous holiday adventures and arrived back at school with big smiles on their faces…like Ava, Daphne and Ben, photographed last year by our amazing teacher photographer, Mrs Joncevski. A big thank you for helping our year get off to such a fabulous start. We were so impressed with your children, many of whom walked in the gate knowing exactly which classroom and teacher they were going to. The school has felt very calm and focused this first week, with children and teachers reporting that everyone has settled in beautifully. There is a lot going on at school, and we’re posting information to Facebook to keep on top of school happenings. We’re looking into how we can use Skoolbag better as well, but for now, Facebook and our school website are great places for school info. We’ll also pop some info in our newsletter each week to let you know who does what. Happy 2019! Welcome back to school! We hope your family had a wonderful holiday.

Happy 2019!

TOP MARKS FOR TRAFFIC The Tilligerry Habitat have closed their carpark Morning and Afternoon to address difficulties getting tour buses in and out. This leaves us with traffic management challenges. We’re working on them, but also noticed how fantastic the traffic was this week. Everyone used the Kiss N Go beautifully. Bus drivers commented that everyone stayed well to the left and they were easily able to get around. Thank you! On Monday, when the Kindies arrive, please be extra patient. WHOLE SCHOOL ASSEMBLIES These have been scheduled for every Monday at 2.30pm. Parents are always warmly welcomed but are not obliged to attend. Assemblies include some time teaching about our PBL message for the week ahead, to make sure that all students are aware of our community’s expectations for safe, friendly and respectful behaviour, and all students encouraged to do their personal best. At Assemblies, we also give out special awards. If your child is to receive a special award, you will be informed by your child’s class teacher in case you’d like to attend. SWIMMING CARNIVAL Our annual School Swimming Carnival is on next Friday February 8th. Please take special care when completing your consent form, as it’s very important that we know how well your child can swim before (literally) putting them in the deep end. If you missed your note, additional copies are available on our website or at the front office. Mr Gattenhof is our School Sport Coordinator and will be happy to answer any questions about the day. SPECIALIST LESSONS

Next week, all students will enjoy their first specialist lessons with our new Music, Art and Physical Education specialists, as well as their lesson with our genius teacher-librarian, Mrs Jodie Carlson. All students K-4 will have a Music or Art lesson, a PE lesson and a Library lesson each week. Stage 3 students will have 1 hour each PE and Library, with another 3 afternoons/week spent on elective studies of their choice. They will each choose one elective from each of three strands:

• Creative and Performing Arts (eg: African Drumming, Choir, Starstruck) • Sport (eg: Rugby League, Soccer) • STEM or Environmental Studies (eg: Robotics, Landcare, Coding)

Stage 3 students will soon be given information about electives available this term.

Parents as Partners Night

Our annual Meet the Teacher Night will be held Monday February 25th from 4.30-6.00pm. There will be sessions where you can hear about whole school programs from the principal, or classroom routines, procedures and programs from your child’s class teacher. Each teacher will schedule two sessions (same information) in case you have two children at our school and a session clashes.

Our new specialist teachers: Ms Alycia Baker (Music), Mr Jonny Rowe (PE) and Mrs Sarah Schofield (Art)
