It has been a very active and rewarding time for me and I have been pleased to see so many wonderful things happen across the school. Ms Sawyer and I have been busy planning for Term 4 and 2019. After many phone conversations and a few days together during her visit this term, we are very much looking forward to working together after the holiday break. Finally, it would be remiss of me to allow this opportunity pass without making special mention of Mrs Roberts and the sterling job she has done relieving as Deputy Principal. Leading this wonderful school with Mrs Roberts has been a great partnership and a genuine pleasure. I know she has well and truly earned her upcoming break and I join with the rest of the school community in wishing her and her family all the very best as she commences maternity leave. Selective HS Applications Last week all Year 5 students took home detailed information on the application process for applications for selective High Schools 2020 entry. A few reminders in summary: Applications for Year 7 entry to selective high schools in 2020 must be made online between 9 October 2018 and 12 November 2018. Late applications will not be accepted. Parents must apply online at <https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and- opportunity-classes/year-7> All applicants are required to sit the Selective High School Placement Test to be held on Thursday 14 March 2019. Reminder: Canteen Changes At the last P&C meeting we discussed some changes to the canteen’s operations. One of these changes will be that starting Term 4 the canteen will close after lunch each Friday, meaning there will be no recess orders or counter sales. This change will help Robyn and her wonderful volunteers be able to better manage the administration and WHS requirements that allow us to have such a wonderful canteen service.

Garden Beds Mr Roberts has done a great job assembling the new gardens beds at the back of the school for the Garden Club. I would like to thank him for his hard work in Mr Beedon’s absence. ‘It is with great joy I can announce that all six garden beds are now complete and ready for plants. This has been a fantastic and inspiring project and while I am happy to see them finished they have been great fun to build. I hope they bring Tanilba Bay many years of great crops and inspire many of its students to start growing some fruit and veg at home.’ Daniel Roberts Tim Harris Relieving Principal

Debating Finals A few weeks ago, the Tanilba Bay Debating Team travelled to Raymond Terrace Public School for the Premier’s Debating Competition Regional Finals. Our team performed well providing lots of excellent arguments and rebuttals, but unfortunately, the adjudicator awarded the winner to Raymond Terrace Public School. Tanilba Bay was previously undefeated and are the Port Stephens Zone Champions. Congratulations to all the team members, Tiarne Robinson, Jessica Morrison, Izak Tetevano, Kate Vine, Olivia Martin, Isaac Belworthy, Baz Rypstra and Lara-Kate McNab.

ES1 Hunter Valley Zoo On Thursday the 13th of September Kindergarten students and their teachers went to Hunter Valley Zoo. The students had a wonderful time learning about both furry and scaly creatures and exploring the zoo. All students should be exceptionally proud of their behaviour on the day. Not only were the students commended on their behaviour by all of the zoo’s staff, but the school received a phone call from a member of the public who was amazed by how well-mannered and respectful the students were. A huge thank you to the parent volunteers who came along on the day, without you it wouldn’t have been possible.

Message from the Ministers brought to you by:

Kate (Minister for PBL) PBL This week our PBL focus is on Oval 1 expectations. When you are playing on the oval, make sure that you are being safe by wearing your hat at all times and staying away from the Koala Corridor, as there can be animals in there. Make sure you are being friendly when playing games, this incudes no rough play and no excluding other students. You should always be respectful on the oval by not littering and putting your rubbish in the bin. Dress as a Farmer Day Last Thursday, we had our “dress as a farmer day” to raise money for those farmers suffering in the drought. The cake stall was a great success and the Parliamentarians would like to say thank you to all of the Stage 1 parents for your generous donations. Thank you to all the students who dressed up on the day and donated their gold coin. The total amount of money raised was $1373.00. The Parliamentarians hope that everyone enjoyed dressing up as a farmer and buying cakes to support this worthy cause. Calendar of Events
