God is on the Move! Together we will explore how the earthly ministry of Jesus was one of moving from place to place as he encountered the human experience. This series will help us reclaim the movement of Jesus’ ministry from temptation, to the cross, and his resurrection. We too are on the move and the season of Lent gives us the opportunity to rediscover how God is at work in our lives as we travel the road to becoming Easter people.
Our Lenten journey begins as we
gather together for the imposition
of ashes at our Ash Wednesday
worship service on February 14th
at 7pm (yes…Valentine’s Day!)
The forty days of Lent are a special
time for Christians and for the life
of the Church. Through these
forty days of Lent I can’t help but think about where I place
God in my own life and how my priorities impact how I
care for myself,
those around me,
and my faith. But
this is exactly what
Lent is – a season
to reflect and
renew our
commitment to God and one another. It is a season to
identify the daily distractions that keep us from drawing
ourselves closer to God.
As a pastor there are times I feel like a broken record when
I say something to the effect of “keep God at the center of
your life.” But the reality is true, when we go off course and
drift away from God, even in the slightest of ways, we end
up feeling the effects.
James 4:8-9 says, “Come near to God, and he will come near to you.
Wash your hands, you sinners. Purify your hearts, you double-minded.
Cry out in sorrow, mourn, and weep! Let your laughter become
mourning and your joy become sadness.” At first these seem like
soothing words, but as you keep reading you feel somewhat
convicted. I feel convicted when I read these words because
I too often attempt to keep God at the center of my life for
my own personal desires. And perhaps that is the challenge
during Lent. It’s not about us – it is, always has been, and
always will be, about God.
My devotional Bible says it this way, “We have to realize life
isn’t about us. We have to prioritize our relationship with God as we
live out God’s purposes
for us. Our challenge is
to surrender our own
wishes and desires, and
take on God’s desires for
us. We may have
confidence in our own
abilities. We may speak poetically and have all the skills to create the
life we want. But if we don’t view ourselves truthfully, as humble
sinners in need of a savior, we haven’t really loved God.”
So, I invite you over the course of the Lenten season to do
what James says in chapter 4 verse 10. Oh, I’m not going to
include it here. I encourage you to pick up your Bible and
read James 4:10 for yourself. Better yet, read it because God
is on the move!
Blessings,
Pastor Erik

At some time in our lives, most of us have prayed for or hoped for a miracle- an event
that seems impossible but is brought about by God's transcendent power. But when miracles
occur, did you know that you have a role to play? Join us as we hear personal accounts of
folks being used by God and read what the Bible says about miracles.
Music Notes from
George Eidson, Choir Director
As an ambassador for music, I have a desire to help you learn a little bit more about it. Music for me is a wonder and a joy. I
enjoy having the ability to interpret the language of music. That’s what I am going to offer you. Starting sometime in March or April I would like to offer a ‘Beginning Music Interpretation’ class, but I need your help. I need feedback from those of you who are interested as to the day of the week and the time of day in which you would be willing to invest in learning the basics of music interpretation. I realize soccer and baseball season is fast approaching so take your time in providing feedback. Also, if any children wish to attend, I
request that a parent be in attendance as well. I talked with Pastor Erik, and he is very excited at the vision. I have also talked with some of you and discovered that there is an interest among you. Now don’t worry. This is not a voice class, and you will not have to sing for me. Also, I am not doing this as a means to recruit choir members, so please do not feel an obligation or pressure in that regard. My email address is [email protected] if you have questions and/or feedback. Please be patient as it may take me a day or so to get back to you. If you do email me just put ‘Music Education’ in the subject box.
George
