Women’s Pastor

How did your first month of 2018 go? How did you get involved at CCC? Small groups, Ladies Tea Party, FBI, Women’s Prayer Meeting? Did you start serving, maybe in a new area or at our new Saturday night service? Did you know that through serving you can grow to be more like Jesus? Really, its true! Serving gives you many opportunities to grow in relation-ships, learn to give generously and work in teams to accomplish projects. Serving gives you a chance to practice what you are learning about Jesus from sermons, small groups and adult edu-cation classes. Women’s Ministry is looking for women who are interested in serving other women, even in behind the scenes roles. Prayer Quilt Minsistry is look-ing for quilters and sewers. There are many tasks involved in making a prayer quilt and they are so loved by the recipients. Let me know if you are interested! Looking forward to serving with you in 2018! Diane

LoveActs Area Leader

Hi Church! Some of you may already be using Thrivent Financial, a fi-nancial planning firm for Christians. They have been to our church in the past and have offered wonderful support of our outreach programs. Something you may not be aware of is that Thrivent allows any of their members to re-quest grants through their Action Team that can be used for charity activities and service. Our LoveActs ministries qualify for these grants, which are given in $250 increments twice per year. Thrivent grants paid for the freezer in the kitchen, allowing us to store and serve over 100 lbs more food every month during our Homeless Ministry, new tires for the Food Truck Trailer, carts for the Food Truck Distribution, supplies for the Backpack Ministry and gifts for the Christmas Stars! Thrivent grants have also just been secured for 100 rain ponchos and 40 blankets to handout downtown. If you are a Thrivent member, please consider applying for an Action Team grant to help one of the LoveActs ministries at the church, or another local cause that you are passionate about. The process is fairly simple. Donata Barbour ([email protected]) and Adair Cooke ([email protected]) on our LoveActs team can help walk you through the process. The next Homeless ministry is Sunday, Jan-uary 21st. It is getting pretty cold on the streets of San Diego, so please go through your closets and donate blankets, jackets and socks to help keep folks warm. Blankets are usually all handed out within 10 minutes or so, so we can use more! Please note that other donations are not being accepted at this time to allow room for these critically needed items. If you are interested in helping with any items or if we can help you or your family, please contact me, Nicole Gerbino—at 619-301-1968 or [email protected].

Group Life Area Leader

Hello everyone, hope eve-ryone had a good start of 2018. I was reflecting on the series we have been studying on relationships and I strongly believe this applies to our small groups. We have devel-oped strong friendships and bonds with each other. It is so good to have someone to talk to, to pray for or just to have a conversation with; this is happening in our small groups. Will you commit one hour of your time to a group? you will not regret it. Pick a topic you’ll like and join today. It is not too late; we have groups every day of the week. Get connected and grow in your relationship with God and others. Let me know if you have any questions @[email protected]

Deacons Area Leader

Dear Church, this has been a particularly bad flu season and I know many people in our congregation have been affected. If the flu has you down and out and you need some help with meals or anything else, please let me know. The Dea-con and Helping Hands team is here for you and would love to help. Please phone or text me at: 619-889-5256 or email me at: [email protected] Praying for all of you, Ele Siegrist

Worship Pastor

Hey Church, A couple weeks ago we launched our Saturday evening service and it is off to an exciting start. We are al-ready seeing new faces and old faces that have not been able

to attend on Sunday mornings due to schedule constraints. Our hope is that this trend will con-tinue over the coming months and more will get the opportunity to worship and fellowship; and of course our biggest prayer is that more would hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ and put their faith in Him! As our Saturday night service grows we are look-ing for more volunteers to serve in all capacities. This is a great way to get plugged in if you have-n't already and it will give you a front row seat to see God move mightily in people’s lives and in this church. If you are interested in getting plugged into a ministry and serving please email me at [email protected]. Thanks church! -Dylan

Save the date and invite your friends to Teen Melt-down Skate Night at the SD Ice Arena on Friday, February 16th. Please give me (Amanda) a heads up if you want to come! It's going to be a lot of fun! As always, we love you and value your opin-ion! Let us know your ideas for 2018 and how we can be praying for you!

Finance Area Leader

Being generous is good for you! I re-cently read an article by Dave Ramsey (one of America's most trusted sources for financial advice) about “Why giving makes you feel good” and here is what I learned: 1)Generosity is good for your brain-According to researchers at Stony Brook University, when we are generous, our brains release chemicals that give us a sense of joy and peace! 2)Generosity makes you and those around you happier-People who are generous, with their funds, time and talents are fun to be around, aren’t they? And more than that, they inspire those around them to be better than before! 3)Generosity can help you live longer-Research shows that generosity lowers your stress levels and that is important as stress is a known factor in many chronic diseases. A 2013 Carnegie Mellon study found that peo-ple who volunteer about four hours a week are 40% less likely to develop high blood pressure! 4)Generosity counters depression-In 2013 a huge review of 40 studies on the effect of volunteering on general health and happiness was published in the journal BMC Public Health. The results? Volunteering not only improves well-being and life satisfaction, but it’s also linked with decreased depression and a lower risk of dying early. Proverbs 11:25 states “Whoever brings blessing will be enriched, and one who wa-ters will himself be watered.” Being gener-ous can bless you in so many ways, take advantage of these benefits and find new ways to be generous.
