What an experience - Camp4

In the beginning of February, I was lucky enough to take partin a Porsche Winter Driving Experience Camp4 at Megalisse,a year-round racing track in Quebec, just over an hour fromMontreal’s Pierre Trudeau Airport.Each year Porsche Canada, takes over the Megalisse racetrack and makes it their own so that we the participants canlearn how to control a Porsche sportscar on ice. That’s rightno Macan’s or Cayenne’s here except to use them as a towvehicle. There were four fleets of Porsche available for us touse three sets of 911 Carrera 4S and one fleet of Cayman718’s. We were able to experience mid engine and rearwheel drive Porsche and learned the differences in weightdistribution and how to handle both better I winter conditionsincluding snow and ice.We were instructed by well-known instructors and/or pastdrivers on the circuit including Kees Nierop, Pierre DesMarais, Travis Hill, Keith McIntosh, Lorne Banks along withamazing Jr. Instructors who are learning the instructing ropeswho will no doubt take over one day, they include JeremyPalmer, Patrick Dussault, Zach Robichon and Daniel Burkettand lead by Jonathan Urlin. All of the instructors wereincredibly knowledgeable, wonderful to be around and veryhelpful. Your safety, awareness and fun were always at thetop of the list.Each morning the hotel provided a delicious breakfast buffetwith plenty of variety and fleshly prepared items. Afterbreakfast, we were shuttled to Megalisse.The two days of driving were broken down into morning andafternoon circuit, allowing us to experience four differentcircuits. Each circuit brought new challenges, knowledge andcourses and Porsche’s. With each lap, you are learning firsthand about the dynamics and physics of the Porsche and howto use its momentum I different ways.My favorite of the lessons was the rally-flick (akaScandinavian flick) which is a technic that causes weight

transfer that rotates the car. The last day we were able to complete hot laps (again anotherfavorite of the adventure) as the four circuits were combinedinto two tracks which were longer and more challengingroutes. They were configured this way to allow us to test andapply all the techniques and tools we had learned duringCamp4 so far. We had a little extra time at the end of day two and we wereable to have a ride along with our instructors who expertlyhandled the course. The event was expertly planned, no detail not covered. Thewhole Porsche team was a pleasure to spend time with andan honour to learn from. The hotel was wonderful and themeals were delicious. I am already looking forward to takingpart in another as there are still two more Camp4 levels tocomplete (Camp 4S and Camp 4 RS) and a special thanks toJennifer Cooper, Porsche Canada Driving ExperienceManager who makes this all possible each year.For more details or to register for next year go toPorsche.ca/camp4 in early spring for 2018 information.

Faster and more capable than ever before - the new Porsche 911 GTS models

Porsche is expanding the 911 model line with five new GTSmodels: the 911 Carrera GTS with rear-wheel drive, the 911Carrera 4 GTS with all-wheel drive - both available as aCoupé and Cabriolet - and the 911 Targa 4 GTS with all-wheel drive. The 3.0-liter flat-six cylinder with largerturbochargers delivers 450 horsepower, which is 30horsepower more than the current 911 Carrera S and 20horsepower above the previous, naturally-aspirated GTSmodel. All GTS variants are equipped as standard with aseven-speed manual transmission. The seven-speed PorscheDoppelkupplung (PDK) dual-clutch transmission is availableas an option.

With 405 lb.-ft. of torque (37 lb-ft. more than the Carrera S)this further improves acceleration and responsiveness.Maximum torque is available between 2150 and 5000 rpm.Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) is includedas standard on all GTS models. The GTS Coupés feature thePASM Sport Suspension, which drops the ride height by 0.39inches (10 millimeters) compared to the PASM suspension,which is standard on all 911 models including the Cabrioletand Targa variants of the GTS.

The 911 GTS Coupé models accelerate from 0 to 60 miles perhour 0.2 seconds faster than the respective Carrera S and 4SCoupés. When equipped with the optional PDK (PorscheDoppelkupplung) transmission, the Carrera 4 GTS Coupétakes just 3.4 seconds to reach 60 miles per hour. The GTSCabriolet and Targa models reach 60 mph 0.3 seconds fasterthan the comparable Carrera S/4S Cabriolet or Targa 4Smodels. Top track speed of the GTS models is up to 3 mphhigher, depending on the variant. The 911 GTS Coupé withmanual transmission and rear-wheel drive is capable of 193mph (311 km/h).

The GTS models distinguish themselves within the 911 modelline not only in terms of technology, but also in their design: AllGTS variants are based on the Carrera 4/4S body, whichmeasures 72.9 inches (1852 mm), even on the rear-wheel-drive models. The new Sport Design front end with a spoilerlip painted in black emphasizes the high-performancecharacter. Combined with an increased rear spoiler extensionheight, it reduces lift on the front and rear axle compared tothe Carrera S models.

Tinted tail lights, rear lid grill strips with a satin black finish andtailpipes in high-gloss black, which are part of the standardSport Exhaust system, give the GTS a particularly strikingappearance. A new black trim strip between the tail lights isfeatured on the rear-wheel-drive variants. A light strip betweenthe tail lights is reserved for the all-wheel-drive models. SportDesign exterior mirrors, 20-inch center lock wheels painted insatin black, and black GTS logos on the doors representfurther visual enhancements. The characteristic Targa bar,which is black with a satin finish for the first time, also givesthe 911 Targa 4 GTS a very distinctive look.

The GTS offers a unique interior. The stopwatch of thestandard Sport Chrono Package is integrated as a centralcomponent of the dashboard. The included Porsche TrackPrecision App has been further enhanced for the marketlaunch of the GTS models. Its features include automaticrecording as well as a detailed display and analysis of drivingdata for smartphones. Standard Sport Seats Plus with GTSlogos on the headrests provide increased lateral support andcomfort. They are fitted with a combination of leather andAlcantara that is highlighted with a new seat stitching.Alcantara can also be found on the standard GT Sportsteering wheel, the gear lever and the armrest. The brushedaluminum interior trim is anodized with a black finish.
