February 2017 Newsletter September, 2013 Important Dates HAPPY FEBRUARY! Mom’s Day! Thursday, February 23 is Mom’s Day! It is a wonderful opportunity to see the Montessori approach in action and share the experience with your child. Morning Class Moms’ are invited to come from 9am to 10am. Mom’s who have students in the Afternoon Program may find a visit in the afternoon is less crowded. Please plan to come from 1:15pm to 2:15pm. If the date does not fit your schedule, please speak with your child’s teacher. Enrollment for the 2017-2018 School Year! When you consider re-enrollment remember that the Montessori Primary Program is a continuous, age appropriate curriculum. The hands-on materials and lessons carefully build on one another and allow children to make metal pictures. With these pictures children are able to move to abstract concepts with a deep understanding of the ideas. All children benefit from a Montessori experience. The ones who benefit the most are those who stay through the kindergarten year. The kindergarten year allows integration of all their previous experiences, both academic and social. It is hard to quantify but every year we see how the kindergarteners blossom. Your child’s teacher or I will be happy to meet with you if you any have questions regarding re-enrollment. We look forward to have you and your child return to Apple Montessori… Thank you! Valentine’s Day! All of our Apple classrooms will celebrate Valentine’s Day with an exchange of cards and a party. All classes will celebrate on Tuesday, February 14th. Each child should bring enough signed Valentines cards to share with their classmates. Please do not address the cards. We welcome special treats to share with their classmates at the party. We encourage nutritious snacks and keeping with the holiday we suggest red, pink or white snacks. In a Montessori classroom children work with hands on materials to form mental images that will support later abstract thinking. Through sharing their knowledge Montessori children help each other learn.

Mystery Reader Program! At Apple it has been a tradition to read a chapter book at the beginning of the Afternoon Class. This year the teachers have begun a new tradition, “The Mystery Reader”! Parents in the afternoon class have the option of signing up for a time to read aloud to the class, and keep it a secret! When the day arrives for them to read, they wait by the office as the children cover their eyes, the mystery reader joins the class . . . then voila! A parent appears to read to them, what a nice surprise for them to see you in the middle of the day! Thank you for participating… It has been a Big Success!
