February, 2016 Newsletter September, 2013 Important Dates It is good to be back in school! We have rescheduled Dad’s Day. For the primary class Dad’s Day is February 11 th and for the toddler class the date is February 16th. Dads, you will be able to work with your child on some of the classroom materials and observe how the classroom supports self-discipline, independence and the love of learning. You may stay all or part of the morning as your schedule allows. Dads of children in the afternoon class (1:30 -2:45) may prefer to come to observe the afternoon class when it will be less crowded. If theses dates do not fit your schedule, please speak with your child’s teacher. When you consider re-enrollment remember that the Montessori Primary program is a continuous age appropriate curriculum. The hands on materials and lessons carefully build on one another and allow children to make metal pictures. With these pictures children are able to move to abstract concepts with a deep understanding of the ideas. All children benefit from a Montessori experience. The ones who benefit the most are those who stay through the kindergarten year. The kindergarten year allows integration of all their previous experiences –academic and social. It is hard to quantify but every year we see how the kindergarteners blossom. Your child’s teacher or I will be happy to meet with you if you any have questions regarding re-enrollment. We look forward to your child’s return. Valentines Parties Apple classrooms celebrate Valentine’s Day with the exchange of cards and a party. We ask that children each bring enough signed Valentine cards for every child in their classroom. Do not address the cards. Below is the number of children in each class: Miss Bannigan’s class – 18 students Miss Avery’s class – 23 students Mrs. Quadri’s class – 10 students Mrs. Burgos’ class -9 students The two-year-old classes will celebrate the morning of February 11 and the primary classes the morning of February 12. We welcome special nutritious party treats. In keeping with the holiday, we suggest red, pink or white snacks. Camp We will have camp during spring break and in June and July. We appreciate the early camp applications. Early applications assure you of a spot in the program and allow us to make staffing and activity plans. If you are interested in joining us for camp, the application forms are by the sign in table.

Parent – Teacher Conferences Parent teacher conferences are the last week of February. Please schedule your conference on SignUpGenius. (Contact Ruth if you have not received an email from SignUpGenius.com) If you cannot make an available time, please speak to your child’s teacher. Childcare will be available for your child while you are in conference. Apple Survey A big thank you to every one who has completed the survey emailed to you in January. If you have not completed the accreditation survey, we ask you to use this link and do so now. http://goo.gl/forms/NqC9dAgwnd Parents are a fundamental part of the well being of our school and the successful educational experience for our children. Participation by all our families will allow us to draw a more accurate picture of our strengths and to identify the areas that need improvement or change. We need everyone’s thoughts and comments.

In a Montessori classroom children work with hands on materials to form mental images that will support later abstract thinking. Through sharing their knowledge Montessori children help each other learn.
