February 2015
We hope that everyone is staying warm this winter season!!
January and February tend to be quiet months on the PTO calendar.
However, we are very excited about a new event scheduled on Friday,
February 27th – International Night. The evening will include cultural
displays, crafts, games and so much more!
The Auction Planning Committee has been working very hard to prepare for
the upcoming Night Out Auction on Friday, March 20th. We have some new
items planned and have added a DJ to spin tunes this year. The funds that
we raise at this event each year are so important for the school. In past years,
the money raised has been used to place Smart Boards in the classrooms,
upgrade technology and the installation of the reading pad. Our focus this
year is to make improvements to the playground. You will be receiving an
invitation in the mail soon with instructions on how to purchase your tickets.
The next scheduled PTO Meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 10th at 7
p.m. Our entire Sheridan Hill community is welcome to attend and we
welcome your feedback on current events, programs or future events.
We are in need of three (3) volunteers to take over the management of our
After School Program Committee for the 2015/16 school year. Please contact
Jenny Collins, PTO Co-Vice President, for more information.
Thank you to Rachael DiMaio, and her volunteers, for organizing another
great Roller Skating Party.
You can find everything you need to know about the PTO on our website at

Dismissal Process Change - Teamwork is the Key!
Dear Parents/Guardians,
First and foremost, I hope this communication finds you well and having a
wonderful start to the New Year!
The time has come for a change in the dismissal process. If you happen to
be someone who picks your child/children up on a consistent basis, you are
well aware of the congestion that occurs as Mrs. Porebski works diligently
to account for all student pick-ups. This process needs to be better
organized, as our buses cannot and do not depart until all children that are
being picked-up, are in after school clubs, and/or are attending the Y
Program are accounted for.
Although, Carol does a marvelous job in her role, it has become too chaotic
and it’s time for an adjustment to be made. As with all change, it takes time
for a system to become fluent, and that depends on all parties working
together to make that happen. There is no doubt that there will be some
“hiccups” as we try a new process, but I am confident that if we all work
together and work through the “bugs” that may occur, it will be more
efficient, and we will all find it to be a smoother practice.
I have created a map of our cafeteria, and have labeled it accordingly. I
would ask that you look over the map and follow the proposed seating
arrangement upon your arrival. Once your child/children arrives in the
cafeteria, please sign out and continue moving out into the hallway…. this
will keep the “traffic” flowing.
I would like to begin to utilize this “new dismissal procedure” effective
Monday, February 9th, 2015. Hopefully, by the time our mid-winter break
comes, we will have it down to a science and everybody will feel more
comfortable.
Let’s “dismiss” the past practice together!
Sincere regards,
Mr. Pierce
International Night
Friday, February 27, 2015 – 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Sheridan Hill Gym & Cafeteria
International Night is a great opportunity to celebrate
and learn about the various cultures represented in our
school. All families are encouraged to attend this exciting and informative event.
Our theme of the evening is "Around the World". Several Sheridan Hill Students and
Families have committed to sharing their native cultures with all of us! Please plan on
attending this new, fun and exciting evening!
The evening will include cultural displays, performances, crafts, games and more!
***A tasting of international foods will be available for purchase for a small fee***
Children attending the event will receive passports for stamping to carry along as
they go from country to country.
Volunteers are also needed to make this night a success! If you are interested in
helping out, please contact Jenny Collins at [email protected] by February 23rd.
If you have any questions regarding the event, please contact Ms. McClaren
([email protected]) or Raminder Grover ([email protected])
or at 716. 400-5499.
SNAPSHOTS OF SHERIDAN HILL
Our PTO welcomes you to log in to the "Snapshots of Sheridan Hill" Share
Site.
We are very excited to have the opportunity to document classroom, and
special event photos, from the 2014–2015 school year. Be sure to check back
often as our classroom volunteers are continually adding new pictures.
Our children's privacy is insured with password protection and a private
URL, provided only to our Sheridan Hill families through an email sent out
by the PTO and a note sent home with students in their take home folders.
The PTO wishes to display our school spirit and build our sense of
community so this is currently not a fundraising effort. You may, however,
order any photo products directly from Shutterfly.
Do you ski Kissing Bridge? If you do, or
have thought about starting to ski there,
come join me and other Sheridan Hill
Families on Sunday, February 8th at the top

cook out and enjoy the winter weather fun!

ROLLER SKATING PARTY
Thank you to all of the parents and
kids that braved the Buffalo weather
last week for our roller skating party!
Again this year, we held the party at
the Roller Rink in Depew and were
pleased with the facility.
Over 80 kids from all grades enjoyed skating to the requested music!!
Another successful skating party!!!
BOOK FAIR
Despite the calendar changes, our annual Sheridan Hill Scholastic Book
Fair was a great success! We were able to provide many wonderful new
books to the Sheridan Hill Library as well as the purchase of two "book
trucks" for use by the library. Thank you students and parents! It was a
great event for the kids, parents, grandparents and staff.
As always, great events would not be possible without the support of our
volunteers! On behalf of the Book Fair Committee, we would like to extend
a special thank you to the staff at Sheridan Hill as well as the following
parent volunteers:
Jody La, Michele Marks, Robin Hendler, Gail Cronin, Kate Buchbinder,
Jenn Shupach, Denise Saeger, Kim Reger, Deanna Rodrigues, Maria Mahoney,
Theresa Edbauer, Sharon Travis, Heather Anspach, Lorrie Barker, Dawn Navarro,
Rebecca Peters, Barbara Langdon, Beth Russ, Kevin Eppig, Jolene Whitehead,
Monique DeSantis and Alyssa McCormick.
KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION
Kindergarten registration will be held
at Sheridan Hill Elementary beginning
on February 23rd through March 6th.
Our parent information letters to incoming Kindergarten students
have been mailed. If you know of anyone in your neighborhood
that has not been notified by the School Office, please remind them
to call to arrange for their child’s registration at 407-9256.
HEAVENLY HAT DAY
Heavenly Hat Day was held on January 13th at
Sheridan Hill. Students donated money to earn
the privilege of wearing their hats to school.
The school raised $707.75. The donations will
be sent to the Heavenly Hat Foundation, a non-
profit organization that provides new hats to patients who lose
their hair due to a disease or treatment of a disease.
The boys and girls enjoyed the day and were congratulated on their
generosity for a very worthy cause.
DON’T FORGET TO SEND
IN YOUR BOX TOPS!!
Please be sure to cut each box top along the
dotted lines (as shown below) before sending
in to school. It is quite time consuming if the
PTO has to cut each box top before sending
in for credit.
You can send your box tops in with your child
or drop off to Ms. Zadvorney in the Art room.
If you would like to help, please email
Elizabeth Siderakis at [email protected].
