Imaginea new world

Wave-piercing competition boats, ultra-strong and lightweight bridges, gravity-defying architecture and featherweight jet planes – thanks to their incomparable properties, composite materials are gaining ground in almost every industry sector.

Today, you’ll find them in longboards, aircraft seats, trains and trailers, bus shelters and satellite dishes. Tomorrow, they may be everywhere.

Durable, light and insensitive to corrosion, composite materials are becoming more and more sophisticated. Soon, the only limit to their application will be your own imagination.

DIAB – Industry leader in sandwich composite technology

The ultimate building material...

... and its applications

Composites offer: Full design freedomComposites can be molded into an infinite number of complex shapes, not possible with traditional materials. With composites, there are no limitations to the design.

Considerable weight reductionSandwich composites provide great weight reductions compared to many conventional steel or aluminium designs.

High strength to weight ratioFor applications where the combination of low weight and high structural strength is required, nothing can compete with sandwich composites.

Full corrosion resistanceComposites have a high resistance to water, chemicals and the environment, which makes them a perfect material choice for outdoor exposure.

Low maintenance/long lifeComposite structures have an exceedingly long life span and require minimal maintenance due to their durability and resistance to corrosion. The combination of low maintenance and long life gives composite materials ex-cellent life-cycle costs.

Decreased environmental impactUsing lightweight materials with proven track record means reduced usage of natural resources, reduced energy consumption and less pollution.

The volume and number of applications of composite materials is growing steadily, continuously penetrating and conquering new markets. Lighter than concrete, steel, aluminium and bricks, composite materials offer low transportation costs and require minimum heavy equipment during installation.

Composites can be bent, curved and joined together in an almost limitless range of geometric configurations. Further, their durability and weather resistance mean less maintenance and cleaning cost over time. Potential applications for these high-strength, weight-saving materials are limitless.

Not to mention that lifecycle analyses show that composi-tes are actually more environmentally sustainable than conventional building materials.

DIAB’s core materials and technology is used by leading companies in a wide variety of markets to achieve the most competitive low-weight, high-performance structures possible.

MarineDIAB is the driver of sandwich technology in the Marine industry today. Racing yachts, pleasure boats, workboats, ferries and navy vessels rely on DIAB sandwich cores to achieve new levels of performance in terms of speed, strength, toughness, comfort, reliability and longevity. Divinycell cores provide excellent fatigue and slamming properties in sandwich structures, which makes them particularly ideal for rescue boats, coast guard vessels and other special boats that often operate in high-sea conditions.

TransportationWhether used for structural parts or paneling, DIAB sand-wich composite technology offers an ideal way to reduce weight of anything that moves, i.e. trains, trams, buses and trucks. The benefits of sandwich technology in transporta-tion are obvious. Lighter designs result in decreased fuel consumption, higher payloads and longer range – all having a positive impact on the environment.

IndustryThe unique characteristics of DIAB cores make them suitable for an enormous range of possible applications. Features like excellent high strength-to-weight ratio, excellent flexural rigidity combined with good insulation, very low water absorption and non-corrosion properties, give endless opportunities in many fields.

Subsea, Offshore & LNGDIAB has been providing material solutions for subsea applications for more than 40 years. Our core materials can be used for many purposes in the oil & gas, subsea and oceanographic industries, providing the highest performance with regard to strength, buoyancy, insulation, water absorption and impact resistance. Based on your requirements, we help you develop buoyancy solutions from surface to seabed, or lightweight sandwich structures for offshore platforms.

WindApplication development in wind is driven to enable wind energy to get the levelized cost of energy (LCoE) below gridparity, creating a globally competitive alternative to con-ventional fuel. Using a holistic approach, combining core materials, finishing, kits, engineering and technical services, DIAB partners with manufacturers and specifiers to enable production of market-competitive blades, nacelles and spinners.

AerospaceDIAB supplies material for commercial aircraft interiors as well as primary and secondary structures for business and private jets. DIAB’s weight-saving and high- performance sandwich composite solutions optimize the products’ life cycle cost and decrease environmental impact.

ConstructionSandwich technology and high performance core materials provide excellent solutions to create innovative façades and constructions in a cost-effective manner. Low weight, high strength, thermal and sound insulating properties together with non-corrosive features, make sandwich composites a sustainable and economic solution. The lightweight compo-nents also reduce the need for supporting points, and ena-ble fast and cost-efficient onsite installation.

Specialty markets

Sports and leisureDIAB’s wide range of core materials are used in multiple types of high performance sports equipment, for example surf, wake and windsurfing boards, cross-country, alpine and water skis, longboards and hockey sticks. High strength at elevated temperatures and compatibility with all resin types also make these cores suitable for rapid production processes.

Radomes and antennasA sandwich radome made with DIAB’s Divinycell core is a strong, lightweight solution with good impact behavior and excellent resistance to harsh weather conditions. Crucial are also the low and even dielectric properties of Divinycell materials.

Success Stories

Everything is possible

Perfect protection from wind and snow

The hemispherical sandwich composite dome for Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute (KASI), manufactured and installed by Deco Composites Inc, protects all its valuable equipment from winds up to 60 m/s plus loads of snow. It is only possible due to its PVC foam cored construction featuring DIAB’s Divinycell Matrix.

A huge, featherweight roof

The entrance to Abu Dhabi’s premier shopping mall on Yas Island is sheltered by a huge canopy roof. It is made of sandwich composites that enable the ultramodern lightweight structure. Affan, a leader in innovative composite solutions, who has designed and manufactured the roof, believes that composite technology will continue to be the new frontier of architectural design and engineering.
