Fraternal Survey needed now!

In 2010, Knights of Columbus councils, assemblies and circles do-nated nearly $155 million to charitable causes as well as 70 millionhours of volunteer service.

These numbers will be even more impressive for 2011 with yourhelp. Just 78 percent of councils, assemblies and circles completed

the 2010 Annual Survey of Fraternal Activity (#1728) and returned it to

the Supreme Council office. The 2010 statistics could have been much

better, but the charitable activities of 22 percent of Knights of Columbus

were unreported.

The deadline for returning the 2011 survey form was Jan. 31,2012. The goal for this year is to have 100 percent of all units report-

ing. To reach the goal we need the help of our district deputies. Please

make sure all your councils file the Fraternal Survey. It is not too late! The Annual Survey of Fraternal Activity Form (#1728 for councils and

#1728C for assemblies and circles) can be filled out and filed online,

printed from kofc.org/forms and mailed or it may be found in each of the

Report Forms Booklets (#1436 for councils, #325 for assemblies and

#401 for circles).

Make sure that each council in your district has filed the Fraternal

Survey Report. If they haven’t, insist that they do so immediately. If the

council is dormant or inactive, fill out and file the form yourself.Simply write the council number and the words “dormant” or “inactive”

on the form and sign it as district deputy.

If any of your councils sponsor Squires circles make sure the coun-cil sees that the circle form is filed. If the circle is dormant or inac-

tive follow the same procedure as above.

Why is there so much emphasis on the Fraternal Survey?

These are the vital statistics of the Order. The Knights of Columbus

can accomplish the charitable work it does in part because the Order isa tax-exempt fraternal benefit society. The Fraternal Survey provesthe exemption is deserved and should continue.

The numbers promote the Order and membership recruitment, while giving the Order the information needed to preserve its tax ex-

emption.

So, please, do it now!

40 for cans for LentHunger knows no season or holiday. It is with us al-

ways and even more so in these troubled economic

times. As part of the Food for Families effort, councilsare encouraged to hold a 40 Cans for Lent program.

The goal of the program is to ask each member of the

council and of the parish(es) the council serves to do-nate one can of food for each day of Lent which be-gins on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 22. Grand knights have

already received a letter describing the full details of the

40 Cans for Lent program.

If the council collects and distributes a minimumof 1,000 pounds of food and contributes 100 man-hours of service to the program, it will satisfy all therequirements for the Family Activities category ofthe Columbian Award application which needs to be

received at the Supreme Council by June 30, 2012.

The council should submit both the Food for Families

Form and the Columbian Award Application form (these

can be found at www.kofc.org/forms). For more informa-

tion, contact Jason Porrello at (203) 752- 4571 or e-mail

him at [email protected].

Day of the Unborn ChildOn Sunday, March 25, 2012, the Order will observe

the Knights of Columbus Day of the Unborn Child.

Knights of Columbus families are asked to pray, fast

and work to restore respect and protection for unborn

children. The Day of the Unborn Child prayer card

(#4665) is available in English, French and Spanish
