Grand Knight’s Comments Can You Spare Ten Minutes?

February 25 and 26th, KofC Family Prayer Booklets:

We need you after Mass for just 10 minutes. Please help us to pass out KofC Family Monthly Prayer booklets to our parishioners. The books are free to the parishioners from the Supreme Council’s Build-ing the Domestic Church through family prayer pro-gram.

Thank you Father Hans for your suggestion that the Council utilize the prayer program.

Contact me, Jim Barber, if you have any questions, Brothers.

Membership Drive:

Our Membership Drive will be the same weekend. See the Deputy Grand Knight, Joe D’Andrea’s com-ments regarding the Membership Drive in this Newsletter. The two events will work side-by-side.

Vivat Jesus, Jim Barber, GK

Membership Drive

Brother's all,

February 25th and 26th we will have a recruiting drive at the church.

There will be an announcement by the Deacon or Priest, after each mass, asking the parishioners to stop and speak to one of the Knights outside on the walkway regarding membership in the Knights of Columbus.

We also have a Family Prayer book to give the families. Compliments of the Knights.

As you all know our council can not prosper in our mis-sion of Charity, Unity, Fraternity, and Patriotism without a steady stream of new Brothers. I need all Brothers before and after your mass, to man the tables on the walkway for ten or fifteen minutes, to tell the parishion-ers about

the Knights and hand out books. Please wear Knights shirts and badges, the last recruiting drive we obtained six new Brothers, lets beat that number.

Vivat Jesus

Joe D'Andrea DGK

Spiritual Director Corner

Dear Brother Knights: Please read the editorial by Alton J. Pelowski on page 2 of the January, 2017 edition of "Columbia." Brother Pelowski addresses the problem of evil in our culture. He quotes Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI: "For Christians, nonviolence is not merely tactical behavior but a person's way of being, the attitude of one who is so convinced of God's love and power that they are not afraid to tackle evil with the weapons of love and truth alone. Love of one's enemy constitutes the nucleus of the 'Christian revolution.'" Pope Benedict's use of the word "revolution" conjures one's fear of civil upheaval, riots and rebellion. Nothing could be further from the truth - the eternal Truth - uttered by the Word of God - Jesus Christ God's only begotten Son. It is true the Christ said, "I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing! Do you think that I have come to establish peace on the earth" No, I tell you, but rather division" (Lk 12: 49, 51). The Lord Jesus is not trying to incite terror, rather peace. Our Lord often used hyperbole to make His point - He is not advocating violence but action. Christians are not to standby passively while evil calls for death to the weak and vulnerable, the aged and clinically depressed. Jesus knows human nature needs an occasional tap on the back of the head to counter evils with critical and clear reasoning. Western culture, particularly American culture, has been stopped at a cross road since the legalization of abortion. Christians are called to stand up and speak boldly for the cause of righteousness. The Lord wants to set each one of us on "fire" with the Holy Spirit - who indwells with us since our baptism. Brothers, we always stand in the place of Judgment. Do we stand with Jesus or against Him? So, how do good Christians conquer the evil of this world? God brings good out of evil therefore, evil will only be destroyed with Good, because love overpowers hate. Abraham Lincoln answers with a socratic solution, "Do I not destroy my enemies, when I make them my friends?" Christian principles become active in nonviolent ways. Pelowski lists the movements within the Church that respond to our common problems: "40 Days for Life;" "Walk for Life;" "Rachel's Vineyard" and "World Day of Peace." All of these movements promote pro-life in a spirit of compassion and mercy. Jesus could not be passive about the Kingdom of God or He would not have won our salvation, "There is a baptism with which I must be baptized, and how great is my anguish until it is accomplished." He calls us to be Knights in His army to convert the world. Vivat Jesus!! Dcn. Dave Opsahl Spiritual Director

March 2,3 and 4th Rummage Sale St. Clare

Culture of Life Brothers, There is currently a bill being presented to con-gress called The Ultrasound Informed Consent Act. If passed into law, it will require any doctor performing an abortion to first show the ex-pectant mother an ultrasound of her child before signing the consent form to authorize the abor-tion. As many of you may already know, about 85% of women who view an ultrasound change their mind about the abortion, and decide to keep their child. I am providing a link to a petition that is being sponsored by National Pro-Life Alliance. It is very simple to fill out, so please join me in signing it. Just enter your name, email address and zip code, and NPLA takes care of sending it to the right people. If the link doesn’t work, just copy it and paste it into your browser - http://nationalprolifealliance.com/uicaa_petition.aspx?pid=WS08d&npla=EHW16 Vivat Jesus Tom Vanek Chairman—Culture of Life

Rummage Sale This Year's Rummage Sale is March 2,3 and 4th (Thursday-Saturday). We fully participate with the Women's Guild who sponsors this event. We start early (6:00 am) on Thursday, March 2nd. Knights will be busy setting up tables, picking up donated items at parishioners' homes and distrib-uting goods to designated sales areas. Friday we will continue to distribute donated items, and man our designated areas (e.g. electronics, sporting goods, furniture and carpeting as well as garden/outdoor living). Saturday we will wrap up by manning our areas until mid afternoon when the St. Vincent DePaul truck will arrive. We will load any remaining unsold items onto to the truck and help clean up the area before we leave. Thank you in advance to all the brothers who have volunteered for this event. The Rummage Sale is an important event for our council. I will coordinate the volunteer work schedule with you well in advance of the event. If you have any questions please contact me.
