[1] ROOM 102 February 15, 2013 VALENTINE’S DAY CELEBRATION ON THURSDAY On Thursday we celebrated Valentine’s Day by graphing Conversation Heart colors, “buying” special stickers and supplies to make our bags, and finding words using the letters from “Valentine’s Day.” Math - This week we learned about Bar Graphs and Circle Graphs. We learned that all graphs need a title. Bar graphs are very similar to picture graphs, except they have bars instead of pictures. On Friday we learned about coordinate grids and ordered pairs. Next week we will create our own graphs, play a game using coordinate grids, and have a test. Reading - This week we worked with Mrs. Corkery and Mrs. Hartzler to practice QAR Questions. QAR stands for Question Answer Relationships. There are two main questions you can ask while reading. They include In the Book Questions and In My Head Questions. We practiced finding answers to In the Book questions while reading non-fiction books about animals. Some students began learning about making connections. There are three types of connections including text-to-text, text-to- world, and text-to-self. Writing - We are working on organizing our thoughts for our persuasive letters to our parents. Our letters will begin with a call to action, include three reasons why our parents should agree with us, and specific facts or examples to support our idea. Going Green - There is TOO MUCH garbage. This morning, our neighborhood, despite making trash cans was overflowing with garbage. We are going to collect data and think of ways to help reduce the amount of garbage. The Students really enjoyed our Valentine’s Day Party

Writing - We are working on organizing our

thoughts for our persuasive letters to our

February CelebrationsWe are doing a lot of fun activities for February. We went on our

second field trip to the Solid Waste Authority to learn about recycling. On

February 8, 2013 we celebrate the 100th day. We wrote about what

we will do when we are 100 and we graphed 100 Fruit Loops

by color. This week we celebrated Valentine’s Day. Next

week we will celebrate the joy of reading with the State

College Girls Basketball Team. We will end the month with

a fun Spirit Week in honor of Dr. Seuss.

100th Day(LEFT) Students got bags of 100 Fruit Loops. They worked with a partner to tally the colors and graph them on their paper.(Below) Students enjoyed playing Bingo. They used conversation hearts for the markers.
