January Meeting I attended our meeting in January with the Robert E Lee Chapter 186, our sponsoring chapter. I had a really great time. Vargo’s was a beautiful place and the chicken strips were good. I really liked the park there. We had fun giving the Confederate Heroes program. Thanks to Miss Jenny for leading us!

Forum In January, Shelby and I went to Forum in

Historian’s Notes from Gabby Vasek

Thanks to members of Lee’s Traveller for the delicious desserts we enjoyed at our December meeting. Shelby & Ross Salge and Gabby & Garrett Vasek prepared homemade desserts as a special thank you to the ladies who sponsor Lee’s Traveller Chapter. The ladies certainly enjoyed your efforts.

Notes from Robert E Lee Chapter 186

Our January meeting was a lot of fun with the Robert E Lee Chapter. Thank you to the ladies of the Robert E Lee Chapter for inviting us. I really liked the peacocks.

Treasurer’s Notes from Garrett Vasek

Bellmead. It was really a fun event. There were lots of Children of the Confederacy members attending. We helped with the Silent Auction for scholarships and got to set up the tea for the luncheon. Shelby and I collected donations for the Welcome Home a Hero project. Thanks so much Shelby for your help and hard work! You are always such a good partner.

Welcome Home a Hero Project

So far we have collected $127.00 to purchase Gummy Lifesavers (10 boxes). Shelby, Ross, Garrett, Allan and I are each donating a box so that brings us to 14 boxes. Our goal is 20 boxes so we’ve still got a few to go. Please let me know if you would like to donate money or Gummy Lifesavers (large size). They are $12.99 per box of 24 rolls. Miss Jenny found them at Sam’s. We’ll put the thank you

notes on the Gummy Lifesavers at our February meeting.

January Meeting Members of Robert E Lee Chapter 186 held their Annual Luncheon honoring Robert E Lee, Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson and Matthew Fontaine Maury on January 17

th. We were so

delighted to have members of Lee’s Traveller join us and provide a great tribute to the heroes we honor at our annual luncheon. Thanks to Mrs. Jennifer

Salge, Director of Lee’s Traveller Chapter 957, and members Savannah Mims, Shelby Salge, Ross Salge, Gabby Vasek and Garrett Vasek for the wonderful program honoring Confederate Heroes. You added so much to our annual celebration.

Thank you! Mrs. Carol Noack, grandmother of Ethan Noack, made a generous donation of $50.00 to our chapter. Thank you so much for your gift, Mrs. Noack! We appreciate it

very much.

Members, please let me know if you have any ideas for fundraising.

What Have You Been Up To?

Melody Townsend's Middle School girls basketball team won the district championship (Northland Christian Schoo this year. She plays the post position. She has also been selected to be on the MS softball team. Go Cougars!

Ross Salge has some exciting news to share...he lost his first baby tooth on Sunday, February 8th. Then, he lost his second baby tooth on Thursday, February 19th. He got to put his first tooth under his pillow for the Tooth Fairy but we could not find the second one. We were at a horse arena that evening. He either swallowed it when he was having a snack or it's in the dirt inside the arena. We looked but could not find it so he chose a rock at the arena to put under his pillow. He wrote the Tooth Fairy a letter to let her know that he REALLY DID lose a tooth and he hoped she would take his rock. She did! Ross is also starting his second season of baseball and is on the Tampa Bay Rays. He's excited about it! He's had one practice so far. Ross is also registered for his first season of flag football. He really likes to tackle so we'll see how this goes. He'll start sometime in March.

Shelby has some fun news to share also...She was chosen for the Spelling Bee again this year at her elementary school and participated in that on January 22nd. She did not win but she did really well! Shelby also participated in the 4th & 5th grade Science Fair at her school in January. She was so surprised to learn that she won 1st place for 4th grade. She worked really hard on her project and more importantly had fun with it. She received a blue ribbon too! On February 17th, the winners from each elementary school in Fort Bend ISD were invited to a District event where they displayed their projects and received congratulations from the Superintendent of Fort Bend ISD. It was a neat evening and she received an "Outstanding Exhibitor" ribbon.

Savannah Mims has lost her first tooth! She is also working on her back handspring. She has also earned an additional 4 Girl Scout try-its.

Historical Workshop

Texas Division Children of the Confederacy

2009 Convention South Shore Harbour League City, Texas

June 12-14, 2009

We will feature a Historical Workshop that will be held during the Convention on Saturday from 1:30 – 4:30. It will include all forms of art/talent appropriate for children through age 18. This will serve as preparation time for the evening’s entertainment. We encourage you to start working on your historical project now so you will be ready to put the finishing touches on it at the Convention. This is your opportunity to showcase your talent(s). Paint a picture, dance, sing, play a musical instrument, write an essay, write a poem, perform a gymnastics routine, etc, with a Southern flair. Just complete the attached form and submit by May 1st so we can make sure your name is included on the list of entertainment for the Southern Banquet on Saturday evening. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Name:__________________________________________________________________ Telephone: _____________________________________________________________ Description of Project for talent show: ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ Please make sure your project includes a Southern theme or reference . If you are playing a musical instrument and don’t have a Southern song in your repertoire, a Christmas carol from that time period would be great. If you are performing a dance, gymnastic or martial arts routine, you could use Southern background music, a Southern motif for your costume, etc.

THANKS FOR YOUR PARTICIPATION. WE’LL HAVE A GREAT TIME!
