MINISTRY UPDATE STEPHCLCHEUNG.WORDPRESS.COM FEBRUARY 27, 2014 GENERATIONS Hi! In the beginning of this month, I attended the 2014 Asian Pacific American (APA) conference, “Made Well” along with 300 college students from InterVarsity’s ethnically- rich Pacific region. There’s a wonderful recap video on my blog that you can watch next time you open a new tab in your browser! Here are some memorable moments: sharing a rare older sister-younger brother connection with Will (freshman at Cal), me (Davis graduate), Brittany (senior at Cal), and Edward (freshman at Davis), beautiful multi-ethnic worship in different native languages like Mienh, Thai, Tagalog, Mandarin, Hindi; and learning worship through Hula (lower right), learning from Jonathan Tran, former InterVarsity staff and current Baylor University professor, who preached from his identity as a Vietnamese American man (upper right), and of course, delicious egg tarts resting in pink boxes amidst a plethora of other Asian snacks (just picture that in your mind)!! One of the most powerful moments for me actually happened after APA. I met with one of my students, Matt, a half white, half Japanese American (center). Being one of the very few Japanese students present at APA, Matt expressed “[t]his conference has taught me to be proud of my Japanese side, and I can’t bear to see them left out.” I connected him with Jon, the speaker, Andy, the worship leader, and Japanese American students and staff in our region. They have started long email chain discussions that overflow with their individual life experiences, curious and deep questions about Christianity in Japan, and what their roles are in their context. As a Chinese American woman, I hope to press into this raw and fresh discussion within our ministry alongside my brothers and sisters. Would you consider investing in the continued development of staff and resources, and students like Matt and younger siblings like Will and Edward, the next generation of world changers? GENERATIONS

Hi! Here are some memorable moments:

• sharing a rare older sister-younger brother connection with Will (freshman at Cal), me (Davis graduate), Brittany (senior at Cal), and Edward (freshman at Davis),

• beautiful multi-ethnic worship in different native languages like Mienh, Thai, Tagalog, Mandarin, Hindi; and learning worship through Hula (lower right),

• learning from Jonathan Tran, former InterVarsity staff and current Baylor University professor, who preached from his identity as a Vietnamese American man (upper right),

• and of course, delicious egg tarts resting in pink boxes amidst a plethora of other Asian snacks (just picture that in your mind)!!

One of the most powerful moments for me actually happened after APA. I met with one of my students, Matt, a half white, half Japanese American (center). Being one of the very few Japanese students present

at APA, Matt expressed “[t]his conference has taught me to be proud of my Japanese side, and I can’t bear to see them left out.”

I connected him with Jon, the speaker, Andy, the worship leader, and Japanese American students and staff in our region. They have started long email chain discussions that overflow with their individual life experiences, curious and deep questions about Christianity in Japan, and what their roles are in their context. As a Chinese American

woman, I hope to press into this raw and fresh discussion within our ministry alongside my brothers and sisters. !Would you consider investing in the continued development of staff and resources, and students like Matt and younger siblings like Will and Edward, the next generation of world changers?
