FCCS Annual Report 2015-2016 1

The French Chamber has established itself as a fantastic business community, under which economic relations between France and Singapore have fl ourished. It is a dynamic organisation that brings value to all of its members.

By overseeing 18 business-oriented committees, organising meetings between industry professionals and hosting more than 200 business events throughout the year, the French Chamber ensures that there is something for everyone. Ambitious entrepreneurs, budding SMEs and prominent MNCs will fi nd no lack of opportunities to share key information and build new partnerships within the French Chamber community.

In 2015, it comes as no surprise that our new initiatives have had a special focus on entrepreneurs. We aim to nurture their growth under the Mentoring Programme. And our Business Advisors Group challenges entrepreneurs to innovate and refi ne their ideas. Finally, the nascent French Entrepreneur Awards rewarded exceptional individuals whose businesses provide quality products and services and have displayed commendable fi nancial growth.

Although the successes of individual companies are celebrated, the French Chamber recognises the importance of capitalising on the collective strength of the local French business community. Thus, our Urban Innovation portfolio serves to enhance the presence of French technological companies among local government agencies by collectively highlighting their smart city solution services.

Furthermore, the French Chamber also fosters stronger links within the French business community through massive networking sessions like the Working Together Forum (“Forum Travailler Ensemble”), which matched big and small companies to create fertile ground for information sharing and collaboration.

The French Chamber will continue in this direction, with many new projects that will create more economic links between France and Singapore, in cooperation with the French Trade Advisers and the various departments of the French Embassy. We also aim to have a more regional focus while maintaining Singapore as a business hub to cater to our regional members.

Executive Director’s MessageLooking back at the year 2015/2016, many images, new projects and milestones come to my mind.

As we strive to bring more value to our members and serve them better, it seems to me that we are able to constantly reinvent ourselves to innovate with them. That is the beauty and the great strength of our organisation: the French Chamber brings together an amazing business community of companies that support each other and are willing to show that, collectively, they can do better and break boundaries.

A great example of this is the Urban Innovations portfolio spearheaded by our Smart Cities committee, which builds on the collective French approach to address Singapore’s smart nation priorities. It showcases more than 150 French smart city solutions offered by 50 French large and small companies as well as two research partners: what amazing team work!

Other initiatives were launched to support French entrepreneurs: a Mentoring Programme, a Business Advisors Group, the “Forum Travailler Ensemble”, the “French Entrepreneur Awards”, an issue of Focus magazine dedicated to “The Enterprising Spirit” and the recent Tech Entrepreneurs Club. These were some of our key projects this year. The Chamber’s emphasis on entrepreneurship echoes Singapore’s ambitions and growing ecosystem of startups, where French entrepreneurs have real cards to play.

Another fantastic collective adventure that is bearing its fruits is, of course, the So Chic guide. Now in its third edition, it has become the reference for French shopping and dining in Singapore.

This year also marked the growth of our Business and HR Support services, with a fully operational Business Centre and a wide range of tailor-made services offered to French companies to help them establish a presence and accelerate their growth in Asia.

It is diffi cult to summarise a whole year of events and successful projects. What I notice, though, is that our business community is growing stronger each year, and is also showing signs of stronger cohesion and solidarity, with a willingness to innovate collectively. For all this, I feel very grateful and blessed, together with my team, to play my part and help French companies grow in Asia.

Our Asia NetworkA Powerful Network to Support your Growth in AsiaEvery year, all the French Chambers of Commerce in Asia gather for their annual meeting. Growth and dynamism can defi ne this powerful network, which has become one of the most infl uential in the region.

This year’s meeting was held in Yangon, Myanmar, and focused on business support services. Several action plans were discussed to enhance coordination between the Chambers in Asia.

Singapore and BeyondThanks to its strategic location in Asia, the French Chamber of Commerce in Singapore plays a key role in accompanying French companies in Singapore and beyond. The French Chamber aims to enhance its collaborations with the French Chambers of the region and many initiatives recently launched illustrate this trend.

The French Chamber Business Support regularly coordinates regional missions by tapping into this dynamic network. French companies then have the possibility to extend their business mission beyond Singapore to explore additional business opportunities.

We welcome representatives and experts from Southeast Asia on a regular basis to share the business practices and, hence, help our members expand their business in this fast-growing region. Last but not least, we organise several business missions for our members in neighbouring markets, such as Malaysia and Myanmar.
