A song from 1967 cheerfully instructs, “If you’re going to San Francisco, be sure to wear some flowers in your hair...” The chorus indicated a mode of life that San Franciscans fully promoted and embraced- peace, love and harmony. We didn’t quite put flowers in our style influencer, Jeninne Jacob’s hair- but the overall celebration of a green city with wonderfully creative and eco-friendly ambitions was felt. Be sure to look at the San Francisco Project (on fashionmegreen.com) to see all the eco-

The W San Francisco prides itself on allowing its guests to indulge in a luxury hotel experience without checking their consciences as the door.

Awarded LEEDs certification and an Energy Star status, W walks their talk! Quality air control, waste disposal, energy efficiency and water conservation are just a few of the areas W has concentrated their efforts.

Guests will be pleased to learn that the other area they are dedicated to is the Whatever/ Whenever service. A touch of a button brings whatever you are seeking, whenever you happen to call for it.. Brilliant!

Stylish rooms have a modern urban touch and make the guest feel as though they are in their own San Francisco apartment- not just a hotel.

Luckily, this ‘apartment’ comes with a scene! The ground floor lobby and bar are a local hot spot for San Franciscans and tourists alike!

Venture beyond the lobby to the XYZ restaurant for a sustainably and locally sourced meal that will redefine how your taste buds work. The chef is happy to accommodate dietary needs and provide vegan dishes when requested, so don’t be shy to ask.

W is setting the bar for green luxury- so far, they take the the cake!

Tip:

Leave extra time when making a visit to Eco-Citizen to walk the area known as Nob Hill. Situated just off Polk Street, an afternoon spent shopping at Eco-Citizen is well-suited for wandering in and out of nearby cafes and shops.

2211 Mission Street, San Francisco, 94110

Vegan Mexican food sounds like an oxymoron, and oh so wonderful at the same time!

For all the converted vegans out there who have been craving a tamale or a fajita with more than just some green peppers and onions- Gracias Madres is a dream come true.

Founded on the principles of producing good and local food, the restaurant boasts Mexican home cooking with an organic flair! Homemade tortillas solidify its authentic standing, while a changing menu with locally harvested and seasonal produce keep it interesting.

And don’t stop with the food either- homemade lemonade, naturally sweetened, is a must!

Located in the heart of the Mission, Gracias Madres is a bit of a diamond in the rough. The interior is current and minimal with traditional wooden and tile accents.

Indoor and outdoor seating as well as long family style tables make for a great party venue.

I popped in to meet a fellow eco-fashionista and San Francisco local during my trip. We sat at the bar and were taken care of so well by the barista, it was as though we were family!

No matter the occasion or meal, Gracias Madres is the perfect choice for something new and different in all the right ways!

First glance at the menu you and see a list of affirmations rather than entrees... “I am peaceful, I am mindful, I am calm...” Each dish at Cafe Gratitude is labeled with a corresponding emotion that fits perfectly.

Focusing on how you feel when you eat is a core principle of healthy

eating- Cafe Gratitude raises the bar by allowing customers to set their intention of health and state of well-being when ordering.

Locally sourced, vegan and some raw food is the speciality. Family style dining in an intimate pub-like setting. Make sure to leave room for their famous dairy-free desserts!

“We choose to work with vendors, customers and the community in making choices that support the environment we share.”
