Most of our support groups have met over the last 3 months, and there have been smiles all round!
We’ve currently got 17 groups that gather families affected by FASD to give support and lift the spirits of the children and adults present. By the end of the year, this number will have risen to at least 30.
These Support Groups and the communities created really help improve the lives of families learning how to cope with the effects of FASD. Here’s a recent story shared on our Facebook page:
“I am so glad I know about FASD. The children were really hyperactive on Sunday, I couldn’t even keep them still to get them dressed. It was all screams, shouting and constant jumping. You know it was a going to be one of those days.”
“So change of plan, we put them in the car to the biggest field we could find. What could have been a terrible day turned out just great. So glad Julia and Simon came to visit and educated our family on FASD as the more we learn about this condition, the better we are at dealing with it.”

Support Groups: Improving Lives, Bringing Hope
Launching APPG for FASD – A Voice in Parliament
In June we’re involved in the launching of an All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for FASD.
Groups like these meet to discuss issues affecting different parts of
society, informing politicians how best to represent the people in need when forming laws.
These groups are made up of MPs from both the Government and Opposition. We’re excited to be part of this APPG, advocating at the highest level for those affected by FASD for better services nationwide; The FASD Trust will be providing secretariat services to the APPG.
Joint-CEO and Co-Founder of The FASD Trust Julia Brown said, "We are really excited to set up a group offering a permanent voice in Parliament, where we can make change for those children and adults suffering from FASD".
Check out the website for more details: www.appg-fasd.org.uk
The forecast for Support Groups meeting this summer is looking good, don’t
forget to wear sun cream and drink plenty of water!

We regularly run half day introductory courses on FASD, providing training on the effects of FASD and how to support those affected, at various places around the UK.
You can come for either the morning or the afternoon session and it costs £75. The training is relevant to social workers, teachers, medics, carers, and parents.
One recent attendee said, “I feel I know more about FASD and what we can do to support within school” and another said, “Superbly well led
course. Very informative and knowledgeable”.
There are limited spaces, so email [email protected] to request a booking form.
Upcoming Introduction to FASD Courses:
Peterborough – 7th July
Orpington – 28th September
Stockport – 21st October
Liverpool – 19th November
Leeds – 25th November
Bristol – 8th December
Volunteer: August Summer Roadshow
Looking to do some volunteering this summer and top up on your sun tan at the same time?
We’ve got dates across Oxfordshire this August for street collections to raise awareness of those affected by FASD and to fundraise for the work carried out by the Trust to improve lives.
We’ve got dates in Abingdon, Banbury, Bicester, Didcot, Henley, Oxford, and Witney.
Get in touch with Matt via [email protected] to find out dates and if you’re interested in helping out, even for some of a day.
Host a BreakFASD! Food, Friends, and a Fiver Nothing kick-starts a day like a nutritious breakfast – and what about doing it with friends to raise money for The FASD Trust!
We’re encouraging people on the 9th September across the country to gather for a favourite morning bite and donate £5 per person to The FASD Trust.
Why not meet at 9am? (Or for those slightly more nocturnal, we recommend 9pm). But any time will do and you could do it in your office, at home, school… anywhere really! Just three major ingredients required: food, friends, and a fiver!
Let us know before the date if you’re planning a BreakFASD and we’ll stick it on our interactive map as we build-up to the 9th September. We’ll also send you an information pack. Email Annabel at [email protected].
