Thank you for an amazing December!

December began with our Alternative Christmas Market that ended up

collecting over $42,000 for God’s work! Thank you to everyone who helped set

up, worked booths, cleaned up, and shopped. It was wonderful to work with you

and do this ministry.

Thank you to everyone who helped with our Cantata! I love that we share our talents together to tell the sto-

ry of Christ’s birth each year. Thank you to those who sang, played instruments, and worked in the back-

ground to make this service happen.

Thank you to everyone who put together our Christmas Eve service. Thank you to those who sang, read

scripture, played instruments, and worked to welcome people before and after our service.

Thank you to our staff (paid and unpaid) who helped our church to run smoothly through such a busy season.

I know that you, too, had homes that needed decorating, gifts that needed wrapping, and family events that

required their own planning. I am so grateful that you spent your time and talents here to help John Wesley

UMC spread God’s word through our many events.

And thank you to all of you who stopped by, sent cards, or gave gifts to me and my family this Christmas.

We love you, too.

I love being your pastor! And I look forward to serving God with you in 2019.

Alternative Christmas Market

A Word from Worship by Angie Williams

…And the word is EPIPHANY!

Many dictionaries define epiphany as “a major realization in life.” Have you had one of those

lately? Here’s one for you: There is no better place to be on a Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m.

than at John Wesley United Methodist Church! So, come join us in January as we usher in

the season of Epiphany with the arrival of the Magi on January 6th and commemorate the

baptism of Christ on January 16th. The rest of the month will be pretty special, too!

This year at the Alternative Christmas Market many people commented that they felt the

presence of the Holy Spirit. There was a gracious, generous spirit there and it is noted in the

$43,000 raised for the agencies. There will be a final number in January as more money is still

coming in.

We wish to say a special thanks to John Wesley members and friends who worked and vol-

unteered at the market. Susan Marvin and volunteers did calligraphy, Judy Denham and Claire

Forjet manning the cafe, John Menge, lunch on Sunday, Lucy Baer and Gina Whitfield, the

ACM card and craft shop, Terry Denham and Cheryl Davis collecting monies, copier Janet and

Craig Dennis, Jay Davis organizing, counting and proofing information, Charlie Clark and Mark

Mahoney (Peace Corp) setting up, taking down, moving tables and chairs and cleaning,

Melissa and Kelly, church foundational support, and Pastor Bethany for being involved

throughout the whole process and praying for all of us.

Thank you for providing food, welcoming folks, shopping, manning booths, doing calligra-

phy, being gracious, praying, and sharing God's love.

Money Matters

Do you shop online?

Did you know that you can send micro-donations to John Wesley UMC when you shop online and it won't

cost you a thing? You can!

If you use Amazon, sign in to your account through Smile.Amazon.com and choose John Wesley United

Methodist Church as your charity. Once this is complete, our church will get a few pennies every time you

shop and those pennies add up to ministry.

Also sign up at UMCMarket.org to send us micro-donations when you shop at other vendors (Sam's Club,

LL Bean, and Target, among others). Choose John Wesley United Methodist Church as your charity and we

will get 1 - 10% every time you shop.

Apportionment Update

Every month, John Wesley UMC sends about $2,000 of the money in our offering plates to the Florida

Conference of the United Methodist Church as part of something that we call apportionments.

Apportionments are the funds used by the local and global United Methodist Church to do ministry around

the world. Each month we will highlight one of the funds our apportionments support. John Wesley has paid

100% of our apportionments since 2015, and we are on track to do so again this year. It is our joy to send these

funds off each month!

January’s Apportionment Highlight: District Work Fund

John Wesley will contribute over $4,000 toward the District Work Fund this year through our

apportionments. This money goes toward supporting the District Offices, their staff, and supplies. This mon-

ey is also used for District events for laity and clergy each year - training and worship events. Thank you for

supporting this local mission with your offering!

Ladies for Jesus will return Monday

January 28, 2019

at 11:30 a.m. (new time)

You are invited to come and join us as we

explore the word of God together.
