The psalmist is saying that when we let every day be a GOD-GIVEN day, it will be a GOD-GOVERNED day, and will become a GOD- GLADDENED day. I want to look at 5 things that this verse tells us to do to approach the New Year properly and each and every day in it. 1. SEE EACH DAY AS A GIFT FROM GOD This is the day the Lord has made”. Yesterday is the past, tomorrows the future, but today is a GIFT. Thats why its called the PRESENT. Today is a giſt from God. You have a day that God has made. All of us have the same amount of me in each day – 24 hours, 1440 minutes, 86,000 seconds. What are you going to do with it? Life is a giſt from God, not a right or an entlement. 2. LEARN TO LIVE IN THE PRESENT TENSE This is the day. There are two days we all should refuse to live in. One is yesterday and the other is tomorrow. It has been said, We crucify ourselves between two thieves, regret for yesterday and the fear of tomorrow.Over 50,000 books are wrien and published each year. Many of them are self-help books. One thing that appears in almost every one of these books is: Live in day- ght compartments”. It is said in different ways but the meaning is the same. Jesus said it this way: Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own(Mt 6:34). Dont live in the future in your imaginaon, nor in the past in memory, but in the glori- ous present. 3. PRIORITIZE THE DAY This is the day”. Make a to dolist and priorize it. Benjamin Franklin once said, Do you love life? Then do not squander me, for that is the stuff life is made of ”. Paul tells us to redeem the me(Eph 3:16). You may not get everything done, but by making a list and priorizing it you will complete the most important tasks. 4. STOP PROCRASTINATING Time is passing and it cannot be stopped. You can put money in the bank but not me. You either use me or lose it forever. One man said, One of the most dangerous days in a mans life is when he discovers the word tomorrow”. Another rule in almost any self-help book is: Do it now!The Bible says, Behold, now is the acceptable me; behold now is the day of salvaon” (2 Cor 6:2). 5. CHOOSE TO ENJOY TODAY Let us rejoice and be glad in it”. Paul said, even while in chains, Rejoice always, again I say rejoice(Phil 4:4). If anyone in the world has anything to rejoice about, it is the Chrisan! Joy is the natural result or fruit of the life surrendered to the Lord. We would do well to make our moo this new year the words of Paul ” “So we make it our goal to please Him (God)” (2 Cor 5:9). Mark

MARK’S MESSAGE GOD HAS GIVEN US A NEW YEAR!

I have selected a verse of scripture that I feel gives us an ideal way to approach this New Year and every day of it. The

verse is Psalms 118:24: “This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” The psalmist is saying that

when we let every day be a GOD-GIVEN day, it will be a GOD-GOVERNED day, and will become a GOD-

GLADDENED day. I want to look at 5 things that this verse tells us to do to approach the New Year proper ly

and each and every day in it.

1. SEE EACH DAY AS A GIFT FROM GOD – “This is the day the Lord has made”. Yesterday is the past, tomorrow’s

the future, but today is a GIFT. That’s why it’s called the PRESENT. Today is a gift from God. You have a day

that God has made. All of us have the same amount of time in each day – 24 hours, 1440 minutes, 86,000

seconds. What are you going to do with it? Life is a gift from God, not a right or an entitlement.

2. LEARN TO LIVE IN THE PRESENT TENSE – “This is the day.” There are two days we all should refuse to live in.

One is yesterday and the other is tomorrow. It has been said, “We crucify ourselves between two thieves,

regret for yesterday and the fear of tomorrow.” Over 50,000 books are written and published each year.

Many of them are self-help books. One thing that appears in almost every one of these books is: “Live in day-

tight compartments”. It is said in different ways but the meaning is the same. Jesus said it this way:

“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble

of its own” (Mt 6:34). Don’t live in the future in your imagination, nor in the past in memory, but in the glori-

ous present.

3. PRIORITIZE THE DAY – “This is the day”. Make a “to do” list and prioritize it. Benjamin Franklin once said, “Do

you love life? Then do not squander time, for that is the stuff life is made of”. Paul tells us to “redeem the

time” (Eph 3:16). You may not get everything done, but by making a list and prioritizing it you will complete

the most important tasks.

4. STOP PROCRASTINATING – Time is passing and it cannot be stopped. You can put money in the bank but not

time. You either use time or lose it forever. One man said, “One of the most dangerous days in a man’s life is

when he discovers the word tomorrow”. Another rule in almost any self-help book is: “Do it now!” The Bible

says, “Behold, now is the acceptable time; behold now is the day of salvation” (2 Cor 6:2).

5. CHOOSE TO ENJOY TODAY – “Let us rejoice and be glad in it”. Paul said, even while in chains, “Rejoice always,

again I say rejoice” (Phil 4:4). If anyone in the world has anything to rejoice about, it is the Christian! Joy is

the natural result or fruit of the life surrendered to the Lord.

We would do well to make our motto this new year the words of Paul” “So we make it our goal to please Him

(God)” (2 Cor 5:9). Mark
