AZORES FAMTRIP - 15 to 25 October 2014
15 – Toronto/São Miguel: 08:45pm – Departure from Toronto to São Miguel. 16 – São Miguel/Terceira: 07:20am – Arrival at Ponta Delgada airport and then for inter-island flight to Terceira Island leaving from the same airport at 09:25am. Transfer to the hotel with the rest of the morning free. Lunch at a local restaurant. After lunch, City Walking Tour of Angra followed by some hotel visits in Angra.
17 – Terceira: 09:00am - Departure from Angra towards the viewpoint of Pico das Cruzinhas in Monte Brasil. Continuing by the south coast in direction to Praia da Vitória, by Porto Judeu, stop at São Sebastião, going on to Porto Martins. Taking the mountain road to "Serra do Cume" for a stop. After lunch visit the "Algar do Carvão" cave and along Cabrito arrival at Biscoitos, visit the wine museum and natural swimming pools of black volcanic rock. Return by villages Altares, Raminho Serreta, passing Doze Ribeiras and São Mateus to Angra. (Algar do Carvão - only visited from June until September).
18 – Terceira/Faial: 12:00am - Check-out. 13:00pm – Transfer to the airport for flight to Faial Island. Transfer from Horta airport to hotel and check-in. After lunch, a City Walking Tour of Horta by the main streets and its main attractions followed by hotel visits. Return to the hotel and some free time before dinner.
19 – Faial/Pico/Faial: Morning transfer to the harbour, boat crossing to the island of Pico (30min). Departure from Madalena passing by Cabeço do Chão and villages. Visit Cachorro, a place related with wine production. Continue to São Roque, there’s a stop at Cais do Pico for a visit at the old whale factory built in 1946. Taking the mountain road from Cais do Pico, to an altitude of 900 meters, where you encounter endemic vegetation. Stop at Lagoa do Capitão, towards Lajes to visit the Whale Museum. Return to Madalena by the south. Along the way you will see a unique

landscape full of vineyards and you'll make a small walk between the vineyards. Return by boat to Faial Island and transfer to the hotel.
20 – Faial/São Miguel: Hotel check-out. 15:30pm – Departure with luggage in direction to Espalamaca, taking the mountain road overlooking the Valley of Flamengos, towards Caldeira, the highest point on the island. Continue north to Capelinhos (the remains of the last volcanic eruption in the Azores, 1957) and visit the Interpretation Centre of Capelinhos that shows the evolution of the eruption. The tour ends at the airport for flight to São Miguel Island arriving at 05:55pm. Transfer to the hotel. Some free time before dinner.
21 – São Miguel: 9:00am – Departure along the south road passing the village of Lagoa and the viewpoint of Caloura with hotel visits along the way. Stop at Vila Franca (first capital of the island) for historical visit and coffee break. Arrival at the valley of Furnas, visit to the lake, hot springs and surrounding holes where meals are cooked by underground vapours. After lunch visit to the botanical gardens (possibility to swim in a natural hot water swimming pool), hot springs and mineral water springs. Crossing to the north coast, stopping at the tea plantation on the way, for visit and tasting. Stop at Sta. Iria viewpoint, Ribeira Grande and return to the hotel.
22 – São Miguel: Morning: Hotel Inspections in city centre, walking tour of the city, visit the best places to purchase cheese and do some wine tastings. Lunch. Free afternoon (Dinner not included).
23 – São Miguel: 08:30am – Hotel Inspections in Ponta Delgada. After lunch, taking the mountain road towards the twin lakes. Stopping at "Vista do Rei" viewpoint for the remarkable scenery. Returning to Ponta Delgada and visit some hotels. Some free time before dinner.
24 – São Miguel: Morning: Hotel Inspections, visit the Golf Courses, visit some pineapple plantations. Lunch. Visit horseback riding quinta/facilities, Diving facilities or any other relevant activities.
25 – São Miguel/Toronto: In the morning, hotel check-out followed by free time to do some shopping around the local shops. Transfer from the Hotel to airport for flight to Toronto at 16:10. Note: Bring with you, bathing suits - T-shirts and a pullover, something for the rain, sun protection, sunglasses and comfortable shoes. For the dinners casual dressing. Itinerary subject to change.
