A Fresh Start

On behalf of the Office of Student Leadership andActivities and Simmons University, welcome parents,family, and friends of the Class of 2023! As a Simmonsfamily member, you are the University’s greatestpartner in our commitment to helping your studentsucceed. As your student prepares for the challengesand triumphs of college life, it is just as vital that youare just as informed as to your student about thehelpful resources available to them in their time atSimmons and beyond.  This Family & Friends Orientation schedule is designedto introduce you to the community, academics, andcampus life of Simmons College.

Class of 2023 to find their path to success throughconnections with faculty members, administrators, newand current students while trying new and exciting things.Similarly, we invite those parents, family members, andfriends who will support their student in the coming yearsto learn a little more about college through today’sscheduled panels and sessions. Each event has beencreated to address the most common concerns of studentsupport such as college financing, campus housing, as wellas degree requirements for incoming first-year students. We are so excited that you are here, and we look forwardto your participation in all aspects of Orientation. TheOffice of Student Leadership and Activities and theOrientation Leaders are ready to assist you, so please donot hesitate to ask questions!

Orientation Check-In, Alumnae Hall, Residential CampusCheck-in and get all your materials while you are here forOrientation. While you are waiting, grab a cup of coffee or amini muffin.

Residential Tours, Simmons  Hall Lobby, Residence CampusAs you move into your students home for the evening, theOffice of Residence Life is pleased to offer room tours ofour traditional double and triples! Tour each space as yourstudent envisions their life here as a Shark! The tour departsfrom Alumnae Hall.

You will also meet theOrientation team who will be available to you throughoutthe day.

Shuttle to Main Campus, Bartol Lot, Residence Campus

Catch a ride to our beautiful Academic Campus, where therest of the day’s events will take place. The buses will leavein ten-minute intervals. If it's a beautiful day, feel free totake the short 7-minute walk down the Fenway to theResidence Campus.

Family & Friends Lunch, Linda K. Paresky, Third Floor, MainCollege BuildingTake time to meet other family members while enjoying alovely prepared meal by Aramark, our Dining Servicesprovider. Orientation staff will be present if you have anyquestions.

Support at Simmons, Linda K. Paresky Center, Third Floor, MainCollege BuildingCollege can be scary and not just for students: this panelsets out to answer some of the questions you might haveabout who will have your student’s back. Members of theSimmons administration, representing Residence Life,Technology,  Violence Prevention and Education Outreach,Dining Services, and Public Safety will review a variety ofresources that students will utilize during their time atSimmons.

Student Wellness & Advocacy at Simmons, Linda K. PareskyCenter, Third Floor, Main College BuildingCollege students are complex individuals with a complicatedset of needs. At Simmons, we believe that holistic wellnessleads to academic success, but what happens when yourstudent catches a cold? Panelists will include staff from theHealth Center, Counseling Center, Health, Wellness andRecreation, Office of Accessibility Services, and StudentAffairs Office.

Co-Curricular Engagement, Linda K. Paresky Center, ThirdFloor, Main College BuildingPrograms and services offered through the Office ofStudent Leadership and Activities, Multicultural StudentAffairs and Colleges of the Fenway are a perfectcompliment to a students experience and overalldevelopment. Students can be apart of the manyexperiences offered from intramural sports to discussions around cultural, racial, sexual orientation, and gender expression.

Student Financial Services, E305, Third Floor, Main CollegeBuildingWhen paying for college, many families face some costseven after all financial aid is awarded. There are short andlong-term options out there for helping to manage thesecosts. This session will focus on your next steps indetermining how to finance a Simmons education. We’lllook at several financing options and discuss the pros andcons of each as well as look at some examples of how tocombine financing methods and ways to protect yourinvestment.

Student Success: Career Education, Research, AcademicAdvising and Study Abroad, Linda K. Paresky Center, Third Floor,Main College BuildingAs a compliment to the student experience, any student canand will utilize the offices in the Student Success Center,including the Career Education, Research and Fellowships,Academic Advising & Study Abroad. These offices offersupport from the course registration process, researchopportunities, and the development of research projects,two-week or semester-long global experiences or skilldevelopment through career coaching and employmentopportunities.
