SAFETY CORNER - PEST CONTROLUniversity Housing Facilities Services provides mandatory treatment of all apartment units at least twice a year. Treatment is provided at no cost to residents and uses an award-winning, non-toxic system that is highly effective while being good for the environment. Treatment focuses on structural controls (sealing cracks and gaps), chemical controls (non-toxic dust and traps), and prevention.

You can do your part to help prevent pests in the apartments. Follow these tips to maintain a clean and pest-free living environment:

• Do not leave out food or dirty dishes, or store trash in the apartment or balcony as this will attract household pests such as cockroaches, ants, rodents, etc. Remove your trash regularly, daily if there is food in it.

• Pests also live in and consume cardboard boxes and the glue used to seal them. Avoid storing boxes in your apartment.

• Keep your apartment clean and reduce clutter. Limit the places on the floor that bugs or rodents could hide and nest.

• Keep food in air-tight, sealed containers (not plastic bags or cardboard).

Failure to comply with pest control treatment or maintain proper sanitation can result in non-renewal or termination of a lease. See more information in the Resident Handbook.

Got a Pest Problem?

If you discover bugs or rodents, submit a Maintenance Request Online online at GO.ILLINOIS.EDU/MAINTENANCE or call (217) 333-2779. Staff will respond right away to identify the pest, inspect the space, and make sure that appropriate treatment is provided.

My name is Jessie Heckenmueller and I will be the Family Relations

Graduate Assistant this year. I'm thrilled to have such a great op-

portunity to build community with you while growing in my

knowledge and skills. I received my Bachelor of Social Work from

the University of Illinois in 2013 and have been working in the field

in Champaign-Urbana since then. I'm looking forward to starting my

graduate education this year to pursue my Master of Social Work

Degree with a concentration in Leadership and Social Change. I

love working with children and families and empowering them to

thrive! I'm excited to learn more about how to strengthen communi-

ties and organizations in order to effectively and efficiently meet the

needs and desires of people. In my free time, I enjoy reading,

kayaking, hiking, traveling, crocheting, and spending time with my

husband and friends. I look forward to getting to know everyone!

Hello everyone! My name is Edith Jaucian (how-shin) and I am from

Chicago. I am very eager to be the Children's Outreach Graduate

Assistant this upcoming year and I'm excited to meet and get to

know everyone in the Family and Graduate Housing community! I

received my Bachelor's degree in Psychology from UIUC and I have

experience as a Residential Youth Counselor for Cunningham Chil-

dren's Home, a Crisis Hotline Volunteer, and a tutor for elementary

aged students which all lead me to realize that I am passionate

about working closely with children and families. I am studying for

my Master's in Social Work with a concentration in Mental Health.

Ultimately, I want to work with families to help end the cycle of

abuse, neglect, and trauma as a Family Therapist. In my free time I

love playing ultimate frisbee, going to the gym to lift, listening to mu-

sic, crocheting, and reading. I am so excited to start this Fall and

hope to get a chance to get to know as many of you as I can so

please feel free to contact me at any time!
