eat? What leaves? What

stems? What flowers? What

seeds?

*Divide a sheet of paper into

fourths and label, “seeds,”

Now lift right leg straight up, down. Now lift left leg straight up, down. Hold for a 10 count or as long as possible Now lift right arm straight out, down. Now lift left arm straight out, down. Hold for a 10 count or as long as possible. Do this 3 times, remember to keep good form and keep breathing. See if you can increase your count by 2 daily.

While brushing your teeth move your hips in the same motion as your toothbrush. With a family member use a bed sheet like a parachute in PE. Lift up and down to move the air underneath the sheet. Gather rounded objects of varying size. Starting with the largest object try walking around your house keeping the object between your knees.

Do you know about the movie "Toy Story". What toys belonged to Andy, the little boy? Buzz Lightyear the astronaut, Woody the cowboy, Ham the pig, Mr. Potato Head, (and others). The toys could move and talk except when a real person can see them. Because of this, you will be moving around like the toy which is called out, but when someone calls out "Andy's coming!", everyone has to freeze in a shape that looks like the toy might make. But before they can do this, you’ll need to practice making the shapes like the toys. Spread out in your personal space, and practice these statues:

Make a statue like Buzz might make. How are his arms and legs? Yes, straight. Make a Buzz shape with your body all the way on the floor...partly on the floor...up in the air. How would Woody look? Yes,curvy and loose. How would Woody look all the way on the floor? Partly on the floor? What about Ham? Yes, he would make an angular shape, using all his body parts on the floor. What about Mr. Potato Head? Yes, a wide shape. How would Mr. Potato Head look if he was all the way on the floor? Standing up?

Now that everyone has had practice making the shapes, call out a toy. Challenge students to move around like the toy might move; then call out "Andy's coming!". Students should freeze in a shape the toy might make. Challenge them not to move! "He's gone!"--students can begin to move again! Call out another toy to move; again, periodically call out "Andy's coming".

You can also put on music; have students

Challenge students to move around like the toy might move; then

A Big Dinosaur

1 The titanosaur was the largest animal to walk on Earth. It

weighed about 70 tons -- more than 14 elephants!! It was longer than two

trucks, end to end.

2 When scientists found the bones of this dinosaur in Argentina

in 2014, they got excited. They wanted to display them. But how do you

show bones that stretch 122 feet long? The American Museum of Natural

History in New York City decided to try.

3 Real bones are too heavy to hang together. The scientists

made new bones in the same shapes and sizes. Then they put them

together in a skeleton.

4 Next, they looked for a good place to put it. They put the body

in one large room. Its head and neck reached into another one!

5 In January 2016, the dinosaur was ready. Many people went

to the museum to see it.

Remote Learning Lessons

Fourth Grade

Please complete at least one activity from reading, writing, math, music and PE each day T-Th to be submitted for feedback. Please feel free to do

more or all of them if you would like.

Please submit work for feedback by choosing one of the following options:

1. Phone call or email to or from the teacher to summarize learning for the week.

2. Summary of Learning posted to the communication platform (Class Dojo and/or Google Classroom) your teacher is using.

3. Picture of completed work submitted on the designated communication platform your teacher is using.

Reading Standard/Skill: RL.4.3- I can describe the character, setting, and events in a story.

Writing Standard/Skill: W.4.4 - I can write an organized piece of writing with my audience in mind.

Math Standard/Skill: 4.NBT.6 - I can divide using 4 digit dividends and 1 digit divisors.

Fourth Grade Reading (passages included in packet)

Read "Josie and the Redcoats" and use specific examples from the text to describe Josie as a character. Don't forget to draw on thoughts, words and actions of the character!

Read one of the passages provided and write down the characters, setting and plot of the story. List three character traits for mother in the story "Josie and the Redcoats." then circle the sentence from the story that supports your inference with a red crayon.

Read “Game Day” then describe how you think Saul felt while he was waiting for Pete to get ready. Make sure you use information from the text to support your answer.

Choose one of the texts

from this week, and

describe in detail, a

character in the story.

Tell as much as you can

about the character.

Describe their personality,

if they have any likes or

dislikes. What makes

them mad, or happy?

How do they feel during

the story? Describe how

they interact with other

characters in the story.

Does their attitude or

character change during

the story? Why?

1.) Read a book of your choice (either a book at home or select one on Tumblebooks or Epic). Take an AR test on your book.

- Choose a character from the book.

- Write the personality traits (how you would describe your character) that you’re able to infer from the text.

- Draw a picture of your character.

Create a model of any part of your story. It might be a character, setting, or event. Use materials that are out in your yard or easily found around your home. Ask permission before using materials and take a picture of your final product.

Fourth Grade Writing

Write a narrative about the favorite thing you did in fourth grade. Remember a narrative tells a story. Describe who was there, when it was, where, what happened, etc.

Imagine that you wake up one morning and discover that animals can talk. Write a story about what your day would be like.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you travel and why?

OR

Write an alternate ending to the story "Josie and the Redcoats," what will you do with the information you have learned from the Redcoats living in your home? Be creative

Write a 3 paragraph narrative about yourself. The first paragraph should describe in detail how you physically look; for example, short, tall, brown eyes, black hair, etc. The second paragraph should focus on your personality; such as, likes, dislikes, and why. The third paragraph should focus on your feelings during this time, while you are at home.

1.) Based on what you know about Saul and Pete’s character traits (from the text, Game Day), continue the story about what happened to Saul and Pete once they got to the high school football game.

Students will use the following criteria to complete their Narrative writing:

- Students will write at least 5 sentences, complete with correct capitalization and punctuation.

- Students will include 4-5 details in their writing.

- Students will include at least 1 adjective (description) per sentence.

Write an extension (or additional chapter) to a book you’ve read the past couple of weeks. Think about how the character would act and feel.

Life lessons can come from

many different sources. You can

learn these lessons from your

parents/grandparents, teachers,

pastors, friends, etc. One life

lesson you may learn from a

teacher is the more effort you

put into something (like school

work), the more you get out of it

(like getting a good grade).

Explain at least 5 life lessons

and who you learned them from.

How did this person(s) teach

you the lessons? Write a

minimum of 3-5 sentences for

each life lesson.

A customer's total bill was

$9.43 and they gave you

$20.00. How much change

would they get back? List all

the possible combinations of

change you could give them

back.

Pick two of the following

careers: professional athlete,

chef, construction manager,

engineer, musician, doctor,

mechanic, or reporter.

Compare and contrast the job

descriptions, types of skills

needed, and role models for

both careers. (You can use a

Venn Diagram or T-chart)

Choose 5-7 works of art and put

on an art show in your home. Use

magnets, clothespins, tape or any

available resources to display

your artwork in a creative way.

How do you want people to walk

around your exhibit space? What

should they look at first? Prepare

title cards giving information

about each artwork and invite

your family to your opening

night!

Explain your work and draw a

picture to support your

reasoning.

Plan a week's worth of

dinners for your family. Each

meal should include: protein

(meat, beans, nuts, cheese, for

example) and vegetables

and/or fruits and may include

other carbohydrates such as

breads, rice, or other grains

and dairy products. Draw

pictures of your 7 meals and

color them or label them with

a color name, keeping in mind

that colorful meals are more

appealing and usually contain

a greater variety of the

nutrients our bodies need.

Becoming good at anything takes

practice and learning from your

mistakes, and practicing more.

One of the common dreams

students your age have is to

become a professional athlete. 1)

Go practice your sport you like.

2) Research an athlete in your

sport to see what they did to

become awesome at their sport.

3) Design your own practice

routine and schedule using that

athlete's routine as a foundation.

Please see

resources below.

Letter to the Editor: Each issue

of the daily newspaper prints a

section titled "Letter to the

Editor." The section highlights

comments and concerns from

the general public. What would

your "Letter to the Editor"

section look like today? What

are concerns you have about

your community? Do you have

an opinion on what is going on

in the world?

To make 2 servings of rice, you

need 1/2 cup of rice, 1 cup of

water and 1 tsp. of butter. How

much would you need to make

6 servings? Find another recipe

and figure out how you would

change the amount of the

ingredients to make more or

fewer servings.

Start thinking about college at

an early age. Write and mail

letters of interest to nearby

colleges showing your future

desire to attend their

institution. Explain in the

letter why you want to attend

their school, what programs

you would be interested in

exploring, and when you

would be attending college.

Many times, schools will send

free items and respond to the

letters if requested. With our

focus on college and career

readiness through AVID, this

is a great activity to get

students excited about their

futures.

Are you up for a challenge?

Pick 5 exercises out. Example:

(Jumping Jacks, Push-ups, Sit-

ups, Burpees, Body Squats).

Pick 5 times of the day to work.

Example: (9 AM, 10 AM, 11

AM, 12 PM, 1 PM)

Choose 1 exercise each hour.

Create a game, make a journal if

possible, each day try to do more

repetitions of exercises. How

long can you do the exercise for?

Count in your head or out loud.

See how much you have

increased your stamina by the

end of the week.

Choose your favorite music to

listen to while you work out.

How do you feel from the

beginning of the week? How do

you feel at the end of the week?

Use your time wisely!
