Serving our Lord Jesus alongside of each of you has been and continues to be a great honor and privilege. God has been at work in and through the ministries of First Baptist Church of Athens for more than 190 years. Praise His Name and give thanks to Him for the many faithful people who have

preceded us. Now, we must diligently continue and build upon the foundation that has been laid.

During the remaining months of 2012 you and I are being encouraged to CONNECT. We are to connect with God, with persons and with purpose. We need to be and we must be intentional about that process. Permit me, as you pastor, to appeal to you to seek God and spend time with Him in personal, private time of Bible study, prayer and soul

searching.

In addition, let me urge you to review your lists of people you need to contact. Add to those lists additional names. Some of those will be church members who have been absent lately. Some of those will be neighbors and

family members. Some will be new acquaintances. All of them are important to God.

All of this will result in fruitfulness for Christ’s sake. Obedience to our Lord Jesus always brings rich rewards in terms of purposes fulfilled. When we seek to be sincerely faithful to the purposes of God our lives and the lives of

others are always blessed.

During the month of October we will be involved in many marvelous events. One of those events is the recogni-tion of Bro. Larry Hicks’ Tenth Anniversary of service through our church. Bro. Larry diligently serves our Lord as Minister to Maturing and Senior Adults and in numerous other capacities as a faithful minister of the gospel. We will honor Bro. Larry and his precious companion and complement in ministry, Linda, following the Evening Service at a

fellowship in their honor on Sunday, October 21, 2012.

Please make it a point to be present at that fellowship and to share your personal words of appreciation and affirmation to this wonderful couple during the month of October. Their commitment and dedication deserves recognition and acknowledgement from each of us. We are blessed in many ways too numerous to mention because

of their efforts and faithful examples.

May I remind you. God loves you and so do we,

Ministry and Mission Budget The Budget/Finance committee is working hard with the staff to put together a challenging but realistic budg-et for 2013. As we get into the closing months and weeks of the current year, it will be a challenge to meet the needs of the 2012 budget; a challenge, but certainly not an impossibility. The Word teaches that with God all things are possible.

Luke 6:38 contains one of the great promises, right

from the lips of Jesus, concerning generous giving: Give

and it will be given to you; good measure, pressed

down, shaken together and running over will be put into

your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it

will be measured back to you.
