Mayor’s MessageDear Neighbors, If we must remain semi-quarantined, can you think of a more pleasant place to be than Lake Forest?

Apparentlythewordisout,becauseearlierthissummerourlocalrealestatemarketwentfromverysleepytobeingonfireinaperiodofsixtydays.It’sabouttime!We’veallknownaboutthemanytreasuresthisCityhastooffer.Withthenewfounddesireofmanycitydwellerstoexpandtheirlivingspace,themarkethasfinallycomeourway.Acolleagueofminerecentlysummedupthelogicthisway:“Safety,Space,SchoolsandSavings.”Andbeautifulscenerytoboot.Pleasegiveawarmwelcometoallournewneighborsasyoumeetthem.Betteryet,bringthemagiftwhentheymovein!

Wearecautiouslygettingbacktonormalonmanyfronts.Ourparks,includingthebeachandDeerpathGolfClub,havere-opened,withsomeminorrestrictions.CityStaffisdelightedtobefullybackintheiroffices(withprecautions)inordertoserveallofyou.Andourbelovedinstitutions,theLibrary,Ragdale,Gorton,ElawaFarmandDickinsonHallhaveadoptednewprocedurestoallowthemtoprovidetheservicesandactivitiesweallhavecometodependon.Thankyouforyourpatienceandcooperation.Andspecialkudostoallthestaffmemberswhohaveexhibitedextremecreativityandflexibilitythesepastfewmonths!

Asfallcomesaroundwewillgraduallybemovinginsideforthewinter.Asasocietywehavelearnedthatthiscoronavirusspreadsmosteasilyamongpeoplewhoareincloseproximitytooneanotherandindoors.SothesenextfewmonthswillbecriticaltoavoidinganincreaseinnewcasesinLakeForest.ForthemonthsofJuneandJulyourCityexperiencedonlyonenewcaseeverytwotothreedays.Wemustallremainvigilantassummercomestoanend.TheCityofLakeForestcontinuestofollowtheguidelinesoftheIllinoisDepartmentofPublicHealth,andstronglyencouragesalllocalbusinessestodothesame.Pleasewearamaskwheneveryouareinanenclosedarea–foryourowngoodandthegoodofthepeoplearoundyou.

Ontheeconomicfront,LakeForest’sfinanceshaveheldupverywellthroughthepandemic.WhilesomerevenueslikeParksandRecactivityfeesandsalestaxreceiptshavebeenreduced,others,suchasrealestatetransferfeesandnon-resi-dentbeachaccessfeeshavegoneupnoticeably.Ourreserves

ThisfalltheCitywilllaunchIllinois’firstmunicipal-spon-soredcommunitysolarprogramofferingresidentsandsmallcommercialbusinessestheabilitytosubscribetosolarfarmdevelopmentsintheComEdserviceterritory.Participantsintheprogramwillreceive20%guaranteedsavingsthroughnetmeteringcreditswhilesupportingthedevelopmentofrenewableenergyresourcesintheregion.ForanaverageLakeForestresidentialaccount,whichconsumes12,000kWhperyear,asinglefamilycouldsaveupto$132annuallythroughthisprogram.

ThemapbelowshowsthelocationsoftheLakeForestcasesthatoccurredbetweenJanuary1andJuly15ofthisyear.ThreeofthefivevehiclesstolenfromLakeForestwererecoveredinChicagoandsouthernCookCounty.

Homeownershavealsoreportedunknownpersonsen-teredtheirvehicles,whichwereparkedindrivewaysandingarages,andsearchedthevehiclesforitemstosteal.Inoneincident,thehomeownerfoundthegaragedooropenandthedoorleadingintothehomefromthegarageslightlyajar.Itemsstolenfromunlockedvehiclesincludecash,laptops,cellphones,purses,wallets,garagedooropeners,andtwohandguns.Manymorevehicleswereenteredbutnothingwasreportedmissing.
