IMPORTANT DATES THIS FALL
FAM DOUGLAS
Pre-K CLASS COORDINATOR
KRISTINA WATILO BOARD CHAIR This year is Kristina’s fifth, and last, year at ICP; she started with her son Oliver, who will be in 1st grade at Sandburg, and will be in the Pre-K class with her daughter Emma. Pre-kids, she taught first grade for seven years in the Lake Washington School District, and currently she bakes out of her home. She is presently the Chair, and previously was the Vice Chair, Toddler Class Coordinator, and a crown sewer. She loves being on the board and helping make decisions for our wonderful school. When she's not baking or being mom, she loves being outside, and spending time with family and friends.
Fam has two boys, Parker and Xander. Her oldest son, Xander spent all 4 years of preschool at ICP, and will be in first grade next year. Parker has spent 3 years at ICP, and will be in the Pre-K class this Fall. She has been a parent at ICP for 5 years. In the past her committee jobs have been the emergency preparedness and health and safety person, and the excursion/incursion coordinator; and is currently the 3/4 class coordinator. Fam would like to be considered for the Pre-K coordinator role as she strongly believes that ICP provides a great community for our families. She loves seeing friendships form and blossom as we grow together in our classroom.
A NOTE FROM TEACHER GINA
Welcome back to Preschool. We are off to a great start! Thanks for your patience while we get to know each other and figure out our roles in the classroom. I am so excited about starting another year with all our new and returning families. It’s such a pleasure to see how much the returning kids have grown and hear about all the exciting things they have done over the summer. Please do your best not to linger too long at the preschool before giving a brief goodbye during drop off. Before long, your child will likely settle right into his or her new routine! The Toddlers are becoming familiar with the classroom, the kids and all the fun toys around them. September for the 2/3 class is primarily devoted to getting to know each other and ourselves. We want to acquire a good feeling about ourselves and for each other. For some kids this is a first experience away from home and parents. We will move slowly until all are comfortable with their new friends and surroundings. Following directions, listening, and becoming aware of those around us will be an ongoing endeavor. The toddler and 2/3 class will be visiting Cravens Farm on October 16th at 10:20. In the ¾ class we strive to provide opportunities for your child to grow in independence and develop a positive self-esteem, during the month of September your child will gradually adapt to new routines, practice following directions, and learn the proper use of materials. Our classroom games and activities are designed to enhance the children's development in these areas. Painting, gluing and cutting will also be introduced. Please do not expect a beautifully finished product. Remember, it’s about the process not the product. I love watching kids discover that they have a great ability to create! Using the restroom and washing hands will be a daily ritual. “Please” and “Thank you” will become very special words. The ¾ class will be visiting The Farm on Oct. 8th at 10am. We have been talking about families and I read a cute story “The Truth about Grandparents by Elina Ellis. This book was given to me when I became a grandmother. After reading the story, I asked the kids what they like to do with their grandparents and this is what they said: Ailee: Likes to make pizza Alexa: Likes to play at grandma’s house Alex: Likes to dance Ben: Likes to play hopscotch Archer: Likes to play with Grandma, Grandpa and friends at school. Ava: Likes to go to the park. Ellie: Likes to play baby doll Graham: Likes to go to the museum. Grayson: Likes everything and likes to fly places with them. Jack H.: Likes to do puzzles. Jack M.: Likes to play Josie: Likes to play legos Lucas: Likes to go to the park, with his grandparents, mom, dad and brother. Madison: Likes to watch tv with them. Marlowe: Likes to ride on her scooter with mimoo and gumpy Max; Likes to play robots Olivia: Likes to play with blocks. Owen: Likes to play with them. Sasho: Likes to rub her tummy and ride his scooter. Vivaan: Likes to hear their stories. I am excited for another awesome year at ICP filled with learning and lots of laughter!

BABIES OF HOMELESSNESS
When families come to us, they’re often ashamed, embarrassed
and broken. But after a few interactions during our intake and
outreach processes, it’s incredible to see parents regain a
sense of self-worth and confidence. They feel fully capable to
nurture their children, and it’s even better to see the children
flourish and thrive by the time they get into permanent housing.
We know that if parents don’t have to worry about the basics,
they can better nurture their children.
Our ability to be a direct service provider of necessities within
48 hours without the long waitlist or referral process is what
truly makes our nonprofit unique.
*ICP is proud to partner with Babies of Homelessness
this year for our community outreach*
