CPN President’s Message

CPN is off to a great start this year! Our annual golf outing at Sapona Ridge was a roaring success, with record participation and robust fund raising for CPNI. The tournament was, as always, great fun, and if you missed it, be sure to mark it on your calendar for next year. Our regions have continued with excellent programs and, finally, under the leadership of Stephanie Cooper, the Eastern Re-gion is joining in with an event in Raleigh. We have an excellent presentation, lead by Ricky Atkins and his colleague at New Atlantic, at the new Davie High School. This is a fascinating (and difficult!) project, and the program is sure to be interesting. Finally, if you have not yet paid your dues, please get on the website and do it. We are an inten-tionally small group, and every dues payment is needed. Thanks for all you do!

Best Wishes, Andy Penry

THE RESOURCETHE RESOURCETHE RESOURCE...INSTITUTE updates...INSTITUTE updates...INSTITUTE updates

It looks like we're going to close out 2018 with some great opportunities for CPNI.

Phil Jones has agreed to chair the workshop to be held in Robbins North Carolina October 2019, Mike Bedell has agreed to chair the Workshop in Murfreesboro North Caroli-na to be held in November of next month and we've re-ceived verbal interest from the Mayor of Badin North Caroli-na. We believe that that Workshop would be schedule sometime after the first of the year.... we will need some of the chair that Workshop!

Stephanie Cooper has been instrumental in setting up a meeting at Appalachian State University with the Humani-ties Department to discuss having students in a particular curriculum, research grant opportunities and write on behalf of CPN and CPNI requesting funding to help support our organizations efforts.

Pat and Jessica are working to finalize what will call at this time of checklist of resources, references, and recommen-dations that can be utilized by each Workshop during the workshop process with each community we serve.

We are still looking for a Chairperson to to head the Alli-ance Committee whose purpose is to link CPN CPNI with organizations such as Rural North Carolina, NC growth and universities such as such as ASU.

I want to personally thank all of you who have volunteered to serve on the workshops and a particular Phil and Mike for under taking responsibility for their respective work-shops.

CPNI is excited to announce an upcoming opportunity to assist a rural North Carolina community in evaluating and developing strategies to put vacant and underutilized build-ings and other facilities to more productive use. Our workshops provide CPN volunteers the opportunity to learn more about our neighboring small towns and engage in excellent workshops with leaders from rural NC towns by providing our professional recommendations and opportu-nities for their town's future. If you are interested in participating in one of the teams, please let CPNI staff know at 336-379-0603 or [email protected]. CPNI will put together a volunteer list by catego-ry: engineer, architect, attorney, designer, general contrac-tor, etc. and will confirm the team once all volunteers are received. *please note, this workshop is a longer driving distance than most:

From Charlotte: 4 hrs. 29 mins. From Greensboro: 3 hrs. 12 mins. From Raleigh: 2 hrs.
