COUNSELING'INFORMATION'

Counselors!are!available!to!assist!students!in!academic,!vocational,!and!personal!areas.!!Each!student!is!assigned!a!counselor.!Students!may!see!their!counselor!by!signing!up!in!the!Counseling!Center.!They!should!check!in!with!the!secretary!if!it!is!an!urgent!matter.!!Students!should!recognize!the!importance!of! their! school! transcripts,! which! records! their! academic! record! from! 9th!grade! through! 12th! grade.!!Grades!for!all!classes!are!counted!in!their!grade!point!average!(GPA)!with!the!exception!of!Pass/Fail!classes.!!Honors!and!Advanced!Placement!(AP)!courses!are!weighted!and!will!be!indicated!as!such!on!the!transcript.!!!

At! Falcon! High! School! academic! excellence! is! rewarded! with! an! academic! letter.! ! Receiving! an!academic!letter!is!a!threeUstep!process.!The!following!are!the!requirements!for!receiving!an!academic!letter.!!

1. GPA!of!3.500.!!A!student!must!receive!a!3.500!GPA!or!better!in!a!semester!to!qualify!for!a!certificate,!and!the!following!must!be!a!part!of!the!3.500!GPA.!

a. To!qualify!for!an!academic!letter,!a!student’s!schedule!must!include!one!class!from!each!of!the!following:!!Math,!Science,!English!and!Social!Studies!

b. Classes!are!to!be!taken!at!Falcon!High!School.! !No!correspondence!course!or!class!taken!off!campus!will!be!counted!toward!academic!lettering,!unless!preUapproved.!

National'Honor'Society' '

National!Honor!Society!began!in!1921!to!create!an!organization!that!would!recognize!and!encourage!academic!achievement,!while!also!developing!other!characteristics!essential!to!citizens!in!a!democracy.!!These!ideals!of!scholarship,!character,!service,!and!leadership!remain!as!relevant!today!as!they!were!in!1921.!Membership!in!local!chapters!is!an!honor!bestowed!upon!a!student.!!Selection!for!membership!is!by!a!faculty!committee,!based!on!outstanding!scholarship,!character,!leadership!and!service.!!National!bylaws! require! that!NHS!members! be! enrolled! at! the! school! the!previous! semester! and!be! the!10th,!11th,!or!12th!grade.!!Once!selected,!members!have!the!responsibility!to!continue!to!demonstrate!these!qualities.!!

The! Falcon! High! School! chapter! of! the! National! Honor! Society! has! determined! that! outstanding!achievement! in! the! area! of! scholarship! requires! a! 3.75! GPA.! ! Valedictorian'and'Salutatorian'Selection'Criteria'

1. Students!must!complete!a!full!senior!year!at!Falcon!High!School!and!must!be!a!fullUtime!student!enrolled!in!five!(5)!or!more!classes.!
