He Still Stills Storms
Jesus told the disciples to get into the boat and go before him
to the other side… When evening came, he was there alone,
but the boat by this time was a long way from the land, beat-
en by the waves, for the wind was against them. Then Jesus
came to them,
walking on the
sea. But when
the disciples saw
him walking on
the sea, they
were terrified,
and said, “It is a
ghost!” and they
cried out in fear.
But immediately
Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Take heart; it is I. Do not be
afraid.”

ALTAR GUILD FOR SEPTEMBER
Jeanine Preboski & Judy Rivers
Peter answered, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” Jesus
said, “Come.” So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water… But when he
saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, “Lord, save me.”
It always seems easy to criticize Peter. Impetuous and eager he steps out of a boat in
the midst of a great storm and then loses faith! Having
taken one big step of faith why does he falter?
Consider this, Peter and his companions apparently
have spent nearly the whole night struggling to get
across the stormy lake. It's not a massive body of wa-
ter, never more than seven miles across when traveling
east-west. Yet they've not been able to traverse it, for
the storm has "battered" or "thrashed" their boat. As for
the churning sea, in their worldview it represents chaos
and danger. Then they think they see a ghost.
It's terror all around. Death seems likely – they are ex-
hausted and stretched to the limit. Fear erupts because
they anticipate how the story will probably end. It is not unreasonable to think that
they saw a ghost and wondered if they were about to be welcomed into the realm of
the dead!
But it is no ghost. It is Jesus and suddenly, when He is with them in the boat all is
calm. They cannot help but worship Him as the Son of God.
How much chaos is there in your life? Do you feel like you’ve been struggling for that
distant shore against cruel winds, crashing waves, relentless rain and all hope is
gone? Know that Jesus still meets us in the midst of our storms to give us His peace
that passes all understanding!

GOD LOVES EVERY LIFE
FROM BEGINNING TO END--
It is that time again for us to display our crosses for the month of September. Please
help us if you can. We have the privilege of joining with four other churches in the
Village displaying these crosses to remind all of us that the sanctity of life should be
very important in all of our lives. We will need 2 or 3 additional people to help with
the preparatory work on Tuesday, August 27th at 9 a.m. Then on Wednesday, August
28th at 9 a.m., we will need many who can help us plant the crosses in our front lawn.
Please bring a hammer/mallet (preferably rubber or plastic) if you have one."

special sales. Here’s what you need to do:
1. Pick up a shoebox and information in the Fellowship Hall beginning September 15.
2. Select the age and gender of the child you will shop for.
3. Have fun shopping. (We’ll provide you with gift suggestions. They are also

ber 17.
Christmas boxes are distributed to children

Samaritan’s Purse website. For a $9 donation,
you will receive a label that you can attach to
your box before bringing it to Faith. Then watch
on-line and follow the delivery of your box. The

Starting October 6th for Six Sundays Pastor Don Hefta will be teaching the six points
of Witnessing using the Every One His Witness program from the LCMS. The study
includes videos, handouts and discussion. The approach is based on interaction with
friends, family – all the people God might lead into your life.
In 1 Peter 3:15 we read, “In your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being pre-
pared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in
you; yet do it with gentleness and respect.
Here is a visual of the six points:
To faithfully cover the information, the video, and to have time for discussion the Sun-
day School Hour will begin at 8:30 a.m. Contact Deb Reed at 608-444-2932 to sign-up
so we can order a study book for you (no cost to you). We'll have more details as our
roll-out date approaches.

Fun…Food…Fellowship!!
A beautiful short story…
It was a busy morning when an elderly gentleman arrived at the hospital to have
stitches removed from his thumb. He stated that he was in a hurry and that he had an
appointment in half an hour. I took his vital signs and had him take a seat, knowing it
would be more than an hour before someone would be
able to see him.
I saw him looking at his watch and decided, since I was
not busy with another patient, I would evaluate his
wound. His injury had healed well, so I talked to one
of the doctors, got the needed supplies to remove the
sutures, and redressed his wound.
While taking care of him, we began to converse. I asked
him if he had a doctor’s appointment this morning, as he
was in such a hurry. The gentleman told me no, that he needed to go to the nursing
home to eat breakfast with his wife. I then inquired about her health. He told me that
she had been there for a while, and was a victim of Alzheimer’s Disease.
As we talked, and I finished dressing his wound, I asked if she would be worried if he
was a bit late. He replied that she no longer knew who he was and hadn’t recognized
him in five years. I was surprised. I asked him, “And you still go every morning, even
though she doesn’t know who you are?” He smiled, patted my hand and said, “She
doesn’t know me but I still know who she is.”
