"Therefore encourage one another and build one another up just as in fact you are doing." 1 Thessalonians 5:11 On our recent study of 1st Thessalonians...As Pastor Amy mentioned recently, Lucas did a beautiful job of wrapping up this five week series and we hope you were blessed by the Apostle Paul's love and encouragement for the Thessalonian church. We too need encouragement in the church today. Life can be hard and we never know who in our midst might be on the verge of giving up. Encouragement is the work of the Holy Spirit. Jesus himself referred to the Holy Spirit as "the Com- forter." That's our calling today. May we blossom in our ministry of encouragement. On our "AHA" Lenten series...we believe you'll be blessed and that this will be a very special and memorable Lenten season. It's fun having enthusiastic new staff! Both Pastor Amy and Erin Warren were saying; "Wow....Ash Wednesday is really a big deal around here--what a crowd!" We're excited about our Lenten theme. Perhaps most of us have had those "AHA" moments in our faith journey where we've seen God's truth in a new way, or those "aha" moments when we've realized that something is not working the way that we had hoped and we have needed God to come to the rescue. Certainly that is the biblical story over and over again; God's people falling into sin, then coming to an awareness of their sin, and then experiencing God's mercy and grace. May our Lenten journey be rich with new "AHAs" from the Holy Spirit. On our recent visit by Kids Hope president, David Staal...you don't have to visit with David long before it is obvious why God called him to lead this very successful ministry. Having worked with Bill Hybels at Willow Creek Church in Chicago, David served as Children's Ministry Director and as Communications Director. What an honor to have him visit Faith Community this past month and to share stories to- gether of how God is impacting the lives of kids in local schools today through the mentoring of church volunteers. A big thank you to LaRae for her passion and leadership as our Kids Hope Director. On our Governing Board & staff night at Common Cathedral...in lieu of our annual council/staff retreat this year, we decided to serve at Common Cathedral at Collyer Park last Friday. Faith Community volunteers like Gary and Gloria Borcher, Evelyn Cordes, Marcie Mason and Stacia Keller regularly serve meals to the homeless on the first Friday of each month. Marc Genty from St Stephen's Episco- pal founded Common Cathedral and he leads a simple ecumenical worship ser- vice of song, scripture, prayer, communion and table fellowship. Jesus said, "Whatever you do for the least of these, you do also for me..." FC is honored to served in this way. A silent auction, consisting of items donated by FC students will be available for bid during all services on Sunday, April 19th, then again between 4:30 and 7:00pm. Make sure to check out the amazing items our students will be auctioning off to help raise money for their trip.

HEARTSTEPS THROUGH GRIEFHEARTSTEPS THROUGH GRIEFHEARTSTEPS THROUGH GRIEF A Journey Together Through and Beyond Grief

This group meets on the third Monday of the month in the Fireside Room. This is a very informal, comfortable and loving gathering for people who are experiencing grief in any way whether it is recent or from many years ago. Together, we will help each other as we journey through our grief. The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, March 16, at 7:00pm. Please contact Gloria Borcher for more information at [email protected] or 720-864-8221.

“Sometimes allowing yourself to cry is the scariest thing you’ll ever do, and the bravest. It takes a lot of courage to face the facts, stare loss in the face, bare your heart and let it bleed. But it is the only way to cleanse your wounds and prepare

them for healing. God will take care of the rest.” – Barbara Johnson

There are so many ways that you can use your gifts and talents to serve at Faith Community! It takes many hands and hearts to keep things running smoothly.

Would you like to serve, but don’t know where—contact Gloria—she loves to help people find the right place to serve. You can also check out the ministry and connecting opportunities booklet to find out more. This booklet can be found on the table near the Welcome Center.

Current Serving Opportunities: First Impressions Team – Help keep the church looking good by doing light kitchen cleaning,

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT

Stephanie Demosthenes

When Stephanie Demosthenes took the Spiritual Gifts Discovery Class in March of 2014, she learned that her spiritual gifts are ENCOURAGEMENT, HOSPITALITY and FAITH and she was actively using these gifts. She has used these spiritual gifts for the past three years with a Bible study that she leads in her home—The Wednesday Morning Girls. Stephanie has a heart for close community and relationships that are relaxed, casual and encouraging. This Bible study group of mothers of Hygiene Elementary students provides a welcoming environment where the women study God’s word and encourage one another in their faith journeys.

Stephanie has also served with the Fellowship (now Koinonia) ministry for several years by providing decorations for the tables for the soup suppers. Since last September, Stephanie has been faithfully attending Stephen Ministry training. She said she loves this class and is learning so much! She is excited to serve as a Stephen Minister in a caring relationship, and most excited to join the hospital visitation team. Stephen Ministry is looking forward to having Stephanie in this important ministry as well as the other 7 participants in the class who will be commissioned in April.

Stephanie was born in Glendale, California, near Los Angeles where she grew up. She met her husband, Sandor, while they were in college in California. They moved to Colorado 12 years ago when Sandor began working at Ball Aerospace. Stephanie’s back-ground is in Human Resources and Communications but she has specialized in being a stay at home mom since becoming a mother 12 years ago. Stephanie and Sandor have two daughters: Caroline (12) and Paige (9). Her extended family lives in California and Colorado Springs. Her hobbies and interests include running, gardening and baking.

Stephanie is energized by showing others hospitality and helping others and making them feel comfortable. She truly uses the gifts that God has given her to serve others and glorify God by leading an ongoing small group. We are excited to see how God will use her as she begins her call from God as a Stephen Minister. Stephanie says that she is in close communication with God throughout the day and just loves to talk and laugh with Him. We are blessed to have Stephanie, Sandor, Caroline and Paige as part of our Faith Community family!

Pastor’s Perspective Continued… On our commissioning of Grady & Phyllis Enge...what a blessing to have these two new leaders of our Stephens Ministry. In addition to the outstanding leadership of Gloria Borcher, Janet Streed, Karla Irvin and Mara Hotaling, we now have Grady and Phyllis to help lead this ministry of support to those who are going through a life crisis such as divorce, a death in the family, job loss or a health crisis. As you know, one of our core values is to be the "priesthood of all believers," and this ministry has been such a blessing to so many in our faith family. I've posted staff updates in recent editions of our ENews...let me just add that we're still in pursuit of an accompanist for the choir, and we're still in pursuit of help for Lorelei who has blessed us so much agreeing to serve as interim worship director at least through the end of this year. As always, we appreciate your pray-ers and trust that God will provide for our needs. Let me echo the Apostle Paul who begins his letter to the Thessalonians by saying, "We always thank God for all of you, mentioning you in our prayers. We continually remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ." Faith Community...that's you. I thank God for you. The Spirit is stirring! Pastor Dan

WELCOME TO THE FAITH COMMUNITY FAMILY!

Kate Talbot is originally from St. Louis, MO, but moved to Longmont around 20 years ago and worked for the fire department, police department and sheriff’s department as a dis-patcher. It was while working at the fire department that she met Bob and Linda Thoman who invited her to Faith Community when she returned to Longmont about a year ago. Kate lived here in the 1980’s and then moved to Maine, Florida and Georgia before moving back to Longmont after her husband of 25 years passed away in July 2013. She has one son, Joe Campbell, who lives in Aurora. Kate is interested in serving with Habitat for Humanity lunches and Hope sack lunches and is also serving with the funeral committee and the First Impressions team. Kate is a delight to know and we are so happy to have her in our Faith family.

Teri Nelson was born in Boulder and raised in Longmont. WOW—a Colorado native! She learned about Faith Community from her neighbor, Sharon Miller, and began worshipping with us last fall. Teri plays the harp and blessed us with her beautiful music earlier this year. She also plays at weddings, funerals, birthday parties and long term care facilities such as Applewood, Homestead, Peaks and Lifecare. Teri has two sons: Jacob, 32, who lives in Gilchrist with her grandson, Logan, and her son, Aaron, who is with Jesus. Teri enjoys reading and ceramics and has already volunteered to serve communion at FC. She looks forward to going on a Haiti mission trip one day. Welcome Teri, we’re so glad that you are here and we look forward to listening to more of your beautiful music!

Sharon Miller was born in Toronto, Ontario and moved to California when she was 7. She lived in the San Bernardino area until 1994 when she married and moved to northern California and then her family moved to Arizona where they lived for 15 years before moving to Colorado two years ago for her husband’s employment. Sharon has two children. Her son Tom is married to Shanna and they have two children, Patience who is 3 and Ayden who is 7. Her daughter, Lori is married to Dave and they have two children, Tyler who is 6 and Noah who is 3. Sharon enjoys ceramics, reading, sewing and quilting. She enjoys serving behind the scenes and has already volunteered in the church office. We are so blessed to have Sharon as part of our FC church family and we look forward to getting to know you.

Bringing Kidz at Heart to Haiti – A Mission Experience Two great ministries are partnering together for one special mission experience September 26, 2015 to October 3, 2015.

Kidz at Heart is an organization that trains Christian educators and parents in many countries around the world with effective techniques for teaching children about Jesus in ways they learn best, within their own culture, using readily available resources. This is a very empowering ministry, that teaches caring adults that they have everything they need; a willing heart, a Bible and new skills to build a powerful program to reach and teach children for Jesus, and most importantly build a relationship with Him.

Heartline Ministries has walked alongside impoverished Haitians for 25 years providing education and job skills, maternity and birthing programs for women, as well discipleship and job skills programs for men, all while sharing Christ with them. This fall we will be combining both of these experiences into one trip for Faith Community. With the support and expertise of Heartline Ministries we will take Kidz at Heart to Haiti. This will be a groundbreaking experience as we will be the first Kidz at Heart team to serve in Haiti.

The Kidz at Heart Experience will support a 2 ½ day conference where we will interact with Haitian Christian educators, teach them how kids learn best and witness the excitement as the doors are opened to techniques and concepts that are new to them. On the final day of the conference children are brought in and we will witness the conference attendees apply what they have learned and see the enthusiasm and excitement on the educators and kids’ faces as they teach and learn.

In the Heartline Ministries Experience we will get the opportunity to support Heartline’s programs. This may include a service project at the Women’s Education Center, Maternity Center, or the Men’s Discipleship Program. We will tour their programs and interact with individuals participating in the programs, visit orphanages, including FREM (the orphanage that FCLC supports), and spend time playing with the precious children who live there. Please prayerfully consider joining us this fall on a life changing trip where we will experience Haitian culture first hand. For more information please contact Debbie Schroeder 303-931-3938, Curt Schroeder 303-638-9738 or Lucas Kinser.

Mission Trip To Uganda July 27 - August 8, 2015 FC will be taking a 12-day mission trip to Uganda from July 27 - August 8 this summer! Partnering with Anne Dean’s family ministry, we will do various work projects, house visits, prison outreach, concerts/music ministry, and much more! Anyone 12 years and over can join this intergenerational mission trip. Please under-stand that anyone under the age of 18 needs to have a parent travel with them. This is a great opportunity for families who want to serve together. The cost of this mission trip is $3,200 per person, or $3,000 each per married couple sharing a room. Contact Lucas Kinser or Anne Dean if you are interested!!

Haiti Mission Trip June 2015 Lucas is excited to lead a missions team back to Port Au Prince Haiti from June 13th-19th! Partnering with Heartline Foundation, we will be helping with various ministries like serving food and handing out new shoes to children in villages, working with orphans, and other work projects to help bring hope and the love of Christ to the people of Haiti. We will spend most of our time at the FREM Orphanage that FC sponsors. This is an inter-generational mission trip with a minimum age of 12 years (participants under the age of 18 will need a parent chaperone). The estimated cost for this mission trip is $1,000-$1,200. Contact Lucas Kinser if you are interested! Don't miss out on this life-changing experience!

GOD IS LOVE As I write this, Saturday, February 14th is Valentines Day when we celebrate, once per year, to profess our love to someone. Some give flowers, candy, cards, or special creative gifts (the last one I never was clever enough to do). God loves 24 hours per day and 7 days per week. He loves us so much that He gave his only Son to die for our sins. In the Gospel of John 13:34-35 Jesus says "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another." It is new because it sets a new standard -- the love of Jesus; the servant-like, selfless love that Christians display toward one another. In the latest World Challenge News Letter, Pastor Gary Wilkerson of the Springs Church in Colorado Springs, Colorado wrote in his note a paragraph that I borrowed that sums up God's infinite love for us. "No matter your circumstances, God walks with you through them all. He is aware of the reports about your health, the struggles on your job, the difficulties in your marriage, the worries about your children, the questions about your finances. He sees your situation and knows the decisions you have to make. He also sees your heart's desire to minister the Gos-pel and care for the needs of those around you. Through it all, God hasn't left you--and He promises that He won’t." Amen! With this kind of love He extends to us, we should be giving back to Him the very best gifts we have to offer of our time, our talent, and our tithe. Ed Gray, Stewardship Committee

February Governance Board Meeting HighlightsFebruary Governance Board Meeting HighlightsFebruary Governance Board Meeting Highlights Pastor Dan opened with prayer and a devotion on Matthew 28:16 – the Great Commission. Each person in attendance shared what drew them to FC. Mark Datte presented the Treasurer’s Report. The budget is a little behind so far this year, but this time of year last year was similar. (In lieu of their annual council/staff retreat,) the GB and staff will participate in Common Cathedral at Collyer Park from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. on Friday, February 13th. A time of fellowship will follow at Lucas Kinser’s new apt. The GB discussed whether or not to enlist the help of Ken Schuetz, with Advisor Services for Governing Board training. Will discuss more at next board meeting in March. Miles Olson presented a data base proposal and on-line spiritual gifts assessment with the intention of improving congregational involvement and to better serve the congregation and community. Pastor Dan’s report: Briefly reviewed staffing updates (which have been posted in the ENews). It was agreed that all Governing Board meetings will take place on the first Tuesday of every month for 2015, so the next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, March 3rd, 2015 at 7:00 p.m.

STEPHEN MINISTRY

Stephen Ministers are available to walk with someone who might be going through a tough time. Stephen Ministers are members of our congregation who listen, care, encourage, and provide emotional and spiritual support. Stephen Ministers receive special training to serve in this way. If you or someone you know could benefit from distinctively Christian and, compassionate care, please contact Gloria Borcher, Mara Hotaling or Karla Irvin. On April 19th, 8 people from our congregation will be commissioned as Stephen Ministers. Please keep Bob Reed, Ed Gray, Kam Williams, Stephanie Demosthenes, Sally Meier, Peggy Brossman, Leslie Goodwin and Gabrielle Albright in your prayers as they complete the final weeks of their training.

STEPHEN MINISTERS ARE COMPASSIONATE – FULL OF FAITH – SKILLED - TRUSTWORTHY

Congratulations to Grady and Phyllis Enge who recently completed Stephen Ministry Leadership training in Anaheim, California in February and were commissioned as leaders at Faith Community on Sunday, February 15th. We praise God for their servant hearts and we are excited to see how God will use them to touch others through this important ministry.
