By now you have hopefully gotten used to writing 2014 on the date line. Each year seems to move faster and faster. In the midst of it all it is easy for us to get caught up in the busyness and drift away from prayer, Bible
study, and even our involvement in God’s church.
Now is the perfect time to reengage with all that is going on here at Faith Community! We are progressing in our worship study of “Fan or Follower”, exploring what it means to call oneself a “follower” of Jesus rather than simply an enthusiastic “fan”. Succeeding this study, we will be exploring a series based on John Ortberg’s book, “If You Want to Walk on Water, You’ve Got to Get out of the Boat.” This study will look at some practical ways we can put our faith into action as we follow where God leads.
Lent is quickly approaching! Please plan on attending one of our Ash Wednesday services, at 4:30pm or 7:00pm. This year’s Lenten Wednesday evening schedule between Ash Wednesday and Good Friday will be as follows: 5:30 ‐ 6:45pm ‐ Soup Supper in the Fellowship Hall 6:00 ‐ 6:55pm ‐ Wednesday Night Live Classes 7:00 ‐ 7:45pm ‐ Worship Service Please note, in order to facilitate more community in our worship during the Lenten season, we will have only one Wednesday evening worship service after Ash Wednesday.
The “Get Out of the Boat” series will serve us well during Lent as we prepare for Easter. Lent is traditionally a time of preparation and self‐reflection. As part of this study, our devotional will focus on when, where, and how God has called people in our congregation to step out in faith as they follow Him. As we read their stories ,our prayer is that each of us would recognize God’s voice, discern God’s call in our lives, and be encouraged to step out in faith, as well. Sometimes God calls us to huge tasks, other times to the seemingly insignificant. The important thing is that whatever God calls us to, we are faithful and willing to follow.
I really want to remind you to please take note of the Jason Gray concerts being held at Faith Community on February 9th. Jason Gray is a nationally known contemporary Christian artist played on KLOVE and WAY FM in our local markets. This amazing oppor‐tunity is a gift to our congregation and community, and a great way for our congregation to shine Christ’s light for the entire region. For this to truly be an outreach to the commu‐nity, all of us will need to step up and do our part. Please help spread the news of the concerts and bring family and friends. During the concerts let’s put our best foot forward and every one of us be an ambassador to those who come. Greet them with a smile, show them where the drinking fountain or restrooms are, and answer any questions they might have. We want to give them a reason to come back and join us for worship each week, as well.

Smitten by Colleen Coble
Welcome to Smitten, Vermont. With the help of four friends, it’s about to become the most
romantic town in America. The proposed closing of the lumber mill comes as unwelcome news for
the citizens of Smitten. How will the town survive without its main employer? A close-knit group of
women think they’ve got just the plan to save Smitten. They’ll capitalize on its name and turn it into
a tourist destination for lovers—complete with sweet shops, a high-end spa, romantic music on
the square, and cabins outfitted with fireplaces and hot tubs.
But is this manly town ready for an influx of romantically-minded guests?
Fifteen Minutes: A Novel by Karen Kingsbury
Zack Dylan made a promise to God and his college sweetheart as he left his family’s horse farm in
Kentucky to compete on the popular reality television show Fifteen Minutes: If he makes it, the fame
won’t change him. Fifteen Minutes is a story of character, compromise, and the cost of having it all.
A story that raises the question: Who are the real winners?
He Wins, She Wins: Learning the Art of Marital Negotiation by Willard F. Jr. Harley
When you get married, you expect your relationship to be a partnership in which you make decisions and face the world together, united. But often a husband's perspective and a wife's perspective on the same issue can be very different and unity in decision making can be tough. Should spouses take turns getting their way? Should they compromise? Can they avoid making decisions altogether? Dr. Harley says there's a better way--a way in which both partners get what they want and believe is best every time.
This Is Your Captain Speaking: My Fantastic Voyage Through Hollywood, Faith & Life by Gavin MacLeod The consummate storyteller, Gavin shares his fondest memories of meeting and working with countless stars on "The Love Boat" and other shows. Gavin MacLeod was on the fast track to success. However, a few hard life lessons—like dealing with a divorce—taught Gavin that the key to happiness was only through a deep faith in God, and he feels his work for Christ is more important than any award. Three years later his remarriage proved that a great struggle can culminate in a happy ending.

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT Annie Mount & Irene Rankin Each week Annie Mount and Irene Rankin team up to use their gifts and talents to serve the Lord and care for God’s house here at Faith Community. Annie and Irene are part of the First Impressions team. They really enjoy working together—Annie said Irene knows what needs to be done and Irene said Annie really gets things done so they complement each other very well. They really do seem to have fun working together—getting the work done while visiting with each other. Each week Irene and Annie clean the glass doors and glass windows around the narthex and sanctuary, dust, clean the kitchen area and water the plants. Although they say they miss Marilee Gruenberger and her “green thumb” for taking care of the plants. These two ladies do a wonderful job and we wanted to spotlight them and their faithful service.
Irene has been a member of Faith Community for about 30 years. Irene and her late husband, Roger, have three daugh-ters—Rhonda, Shelly and Connie. They also have three grandsons. Roger ended his baptismal journey in 2010. Irene and Roger met in high school in Oxford, Nebraska. They married in 1955 and moved to Longmont in 1979. Irene has worked as a kindergarten teacher in Northglenn, as well as at Leanin’ Tree, the old Hallmark store on Main St., and H & R Block, from which she retired 5 years ago. Throughout the years at FC, she has been involved in numerous Bible stud-ies, taught first grade Sunday School, served on Outreach and headed up the quilt and baby layette deliveries to Denver, has been a greeter and also currently serves on the altar care team. Irene also volunteers in the HR office at Longmont United Hospital. She enjoys traveling, genealogy, tole painting, walking and going to the gym.
Annie Mount and her husband, John, joined FC in 2005, after Spirit of Peace Catholic Church disbanded. Annie has lived in Longmont since 1980. She grew up in Minnesota and she is the youngest of 12 children. She has one son, Jeremy, and two grandsons. Annie retired last spring from Boulder County Housing but is contemplating returning to the work force part time. In addition to serving on the First Impressions team, Annie volunteers with several Outreach ministries including Common Cathedral and the OUR Center. She was also actively involved in scooping mud out of homes in the aftermath of the September flooding. Annie also volunteers with the FOY (Flipside of Youth) luncheons and volunteers in the church office every Tuesday! Annie said the work she does on the First Impressions team is very satisfying and she enjoys keeping the church looking good! In her spare time, Annie enjoys walking her dog, bike riding, travel and theater. Both Irene and Annie said they enjoy doing God’s work and also enjoy working behind the scenes and having fun at the same time. We are very grateful for their humble and faithful service!!! If you would like to learn more about being on the First Impressions team, please talk with Annie or Irene or contact Gloria Borcher.

Join us for summer camp this year!
What fond memories; singing around the campfire, hiking and having great bible study discussions up in the beauty of our Colorado Rockies! Faith Community used to have a strong tradition of sending groups of kids to Sky Ranch each summer for Bible camps which blessed us with very strong youth and family ministries for many years. We are so excited to start building the tradition of summer Bible camp for our elementary age students again! In recent years our annual council/staff retreat has been held at the beautiful Highlands Camp, which is just 25 minutes away up towards Allenspark. As it turns out, we now have 3 FC members who work there on staff; Kathy Griffee, Karla Irvin and Michael Hanratty. So, we believe this would be a GREAT location for us to rebuild our summer camp ministry with our kids. The dates for this year’s summer camp will be June 15-20 for our 3rd and 4th graders and June 29th - July 3rd for 5th & 6th graders.

Calling all Marthas! Do you have the gift of Helps, or Hospitality? Wednesdays during Lent, meet us in the kitchen from 10:00am - 1:00pm to prepare the evening meal of soup, bread, and salad. If you can’ t help prepare, but are able to help serve from 5:30 - 6:45pm, that would be great, too!

Flip Side of Youth Ministries at Faith Community.Flip Side of Youth Ministries at Faith Community.Flip Side of Youth Ministries at Faith Community.
Did you know you can help 3 FC ministries, just by purchasing your gro‐ceries at either Safeway or King Soopers with a reloadable grocery card? Let’s take an imaginary trip to the grocery store to see how this works:
First, purchase a $25 King Soopers or Safeway reloadable grocery card on Sunday morn‐ing at church. (You cannot purchase these fundraising cards at the grocery store.) Head to your favorite grocery store, grab a cart, and pick up your weekly groceries. At the checkout, make a rough estimate of the total cost of groceries in the cart. Before the clerk begins to check you out, tell him/her you would like to add funds to your card and what amount you would like add. You may either write a check, use your credit/debit card ,or pay cash to do this. Check out as normal, but use your reloaded grocery card to pay. Let’s say you spent $115.00 today. You just donated $5.75 (5% of your purchase) to an FC ministry, and all you had to do was use your FC reloadable card. Just think, if you used this reloadable grocery card every time you go to the grocery store, let’s say once a week for a month, and you spend $115 each week, that is $460 times 5% for a grand total donation of $23. Now, what if 10 families did this. That is $230 a month! If 30 families used reloadable grocery cards, $690 a month would go towards an FC ministry! Let your imaginations run totally wild: what if all 391 families at FC did this. Did your calculator mind just kick in and come up with $8,993 A MONTH!!! Wow, all because each family regularly used the reloadable grocery card. Let’s do it...Purchase that card on Sunday morning, use it on your next visit to King Soopers or Safeway, and start the donation train!
