IN CASE YOU MISSED IT • The Stags opened up conference play with a 56-52 victory at Canisius on Friday. The win marked the 23rd time in program history that Fairfield started off the MAAC slate at 1-0.• Defense was the story for the Stags, who held Canisius to the lowest point total (52) and field goal percentage (.315) of any opponent this season. The defensive ef-fort was highlighted by a third quarter where Fairfield limited the Griffs to one field goal and five points overall, the fewest in any quarter by an opponent this season. The Griffs misfired on 11-straight shots spanning the third and fourth quarters.• The defense helped pick up a Fairfield offense that would shoot 26 percent in the second half and just 31 percent in the game. The Stags misfired on 17-straight shots in the second half, but held Canisius scoreless during seven minutes of that stretch.

LACE UP FOR PEDIATRIC CANCER • The Stags will take part in the Go4theGoal campaign when wearing gold laces to help Lace Up for Pediatric Cancer. • Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer started in 2011 in answer to requests from youth soc-cer teams in New Jersey that wanted to show their commitment to the fight against pediatric cancer. • Today, teams across the country representing every sport from youth to profes-sional have Laced Up in Go4theGoal’s GOLD laces.

OPENING UP 2018 • The Stags will play in their first game of the 2018 calendar year when they take on Niagara at home. The Stags have been successful in their first game of a new year, holding a 23-13 record in these games.• Fairfield has won two-straight with victories against Canisius to begin 2016 and a victory against Monmouth in 2017. Under Head Coach Joe Frager the Stags hold a 6-3 record in those contests. Frager and the Stags won five-straight contests from 2009-14.• This will be the second time in program history the two teams have opened a cal-endar year against each other with the first instance coming in 2015, a 66-64 Fairfield setback at Alumni Hall.

THE GRIFFS SCOUTING REPORT • The Griffs will enter their first conference game of the season after a 2-9 mark in their non-conference slate, which includes eight losses in-a-row.• Their lastest setback came against Middle Tennessee in the UTRGV Holiday Classic in Ediburgh, Texas by a 55-45 count. Sophomore Tiana Pugh had her best game as a Golden Griffin with 19 points and five rebounds in the setback.• As a team, the Griffs have been known for their defense, which leads the league in field goal percentage defense (.390) and 3-point field goal defense (.260), the 23rd best number in the country. Only two opponents this season have shot better than 30 percent from long range against the Griffs: Oakland (.440) and Miami (.545).

MOVING ON UP • Samantha Cooper is continuing to move up the program’s career rebounding and points chart. She currently ranks sixth in the record books with 820 boards and 31st with 1,025 points• With her 19 rebounds at Canisius, Cooper surpassed both Baendu Lowenthal (808) and current Director of Basketball Operations Taryn Johnson (814) for sixth on the program’s all-time list. Cooper will now try and move into the top-five by catching Robin Massari (1990-94) who recorded 930 boards in her career.• Cooper also ranks 31st in scoring at 1,025. She is 16 points shy of Cathy Dash (2001-05) who is next on the list.

MORE ON THE BOARDS • The 19 rebounds brought down by Samantha Cooper at Canisius was not only a career-high for Cooper, it was the most by any Stag in seven years. Current Assistant Coach Stephanie Geehan was the last Stag to do so, hauling in 19 boards on Jan. 24, 2010.• The 19 rebounds was also the most in a single game among any player in the MAAC this season, surpassing Siena’s Emmanuella Edoka who grabbed 16 against Sacred Heart.• That number also ties for the 17th most in a game in the NCAA this season.

DEFENSIVE SECOND HALF • The Stags held Canisius to just 25 points on 26 percent shooting (7-for-31) in the second half of their victory.• It is the third time this season the Stags have held an opponent to exactly 25 points in the second half (UMass Lowell on Nov. 29 and at Lehigh on Nov. 25).

GETTING THE O-BOARDS • The Stags have performed well on the offensive glass this season, averaging 11.4 offensive rebounds per game, exactly 2.0 rebounds greater than their average in 2016-17.• However, despite their success on the boards, the Stags are only averaging 7.8 second chance points this year. They have 137 offensive rebounds with 93 second chance points.

STAGS PICKED FOURTH • For the fifth-straight season, the Fairfield wom-en’s basketball team was picked in the top-four of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Preseason Poll.• The Stags were picked fourth in the poll which wa voted upon with the league’s 11 head coaches.• Samantha Cooper earned her first career selection on an All-MAAC squad as the league selected her to the Preseason All-MAAC Third Team.

TAKING THE THREE • The Stags rank third in the MAAC and 75th in the country with their 294 attempts from behind the arc.• Their most attempts came in the Fairfield win at Canisius when they took 31 shots from long range. That number ties the most in program history as the Stags also hoisted up 31 attempts on December 9, 2004 against Delaware.• On this pace, the Stags will attempt 735 shots from behind the arc, which will shat-ter the previous record set in 2012-13 (627).

ANOTHER TOP DEFENSIVE SEASON • The Stags are second in the MAAC in scor-ing defense, with their opponents averaging 64.7 points per game. • The Stags also found their success on the defensive side of the ball during the 2016-17 season, allowing 57.5 points per game, the best number in the conference and the 30th best nationally.• Defensive success has been the calling card for Joe Frager’s teams. Frager now owns the 10 best defensive teams in pro-gram history.• All 10 of his teams have allowed fewer than 63.3 points per game, which was the program record set back during the pro-gram’s first Division I season in 1981-82.

HELPING OUT • The Stags are currently fourth in the MAAC in assists (14.8) and second in as-sist-turnover ratio (1.09).• Fairfield has assisted on 178 of their 258 made field goals (69 percent) this season. Three different players are averaging at least 3.0 assists per game: Sam Kramer (3.0), Kendra Landy (3.7), and Casey Foley (3.5).• In Fairfield’s victory at Canisius, the Stags assisted on all 18 of their field goals.

GOING TO MACEY’S • Macey Hollenshead tied her season-high with eight points and two 3-pointers in the win at Canisius. She recorded six of those points and two triples in the first five min-utes of game action.• It marked the second-straight game where Hollenshead scored at least six points on 2-for-3 shooting from deep (Seton Hall).• In those 10 minutes, Hollenshead scored 14 points on a 4-for-6 shooting clip from deep.

DOUBLE TROUBLE • Both Samantha Cooper and Khadidiatou Diouf recorded double-doubles in the Stags win at Canisius.• Cooper set her career-high with 19 re-bounds while adding 12 first half points.• Diouf notched the first of her career with 12 points and 10 rebounds.• It is the second time this season that

the Stags have accomplished this feat. In their most recent victory at Boston College both Cooper and Kendra Landy recorded double-doubles.

LANDY DANDY • Kendra Landy had her best overall game of the season in the Fairfield win at Boston College, recording her first career dou-ble-double with 10 points and a person-al-best 10 assists.• Landy was one of the many difference makers for the Stags, especially in the third quarter. Landy drove to the hoop and converted two field goals in the quarter. She would also assist on five of the other Stag baskets in the frame.• The 10 assists are tied with Niagara’s Jamie Sherburne for the most in a single game among MAAC players this season.
