Dear Parents,
Greetings everyone. The weather is definitely warming up, so much so that I invite students to wear
their summer uniform for the remainder of the term, particularly next week when we go swimming.
Has everyone checked their swimmers from last season still fit? There has been a lot of growing
since last summer.
Kids With a Purpose
Take 2! Mrs Cassie Gorrie has requested an extra final session of Kids with a Purpose this Friday. So
therefore, we will have our final session of Kids with a Purpose this Friday.
PARENTS (and Grandparents) you are invited to come to this final session which will review what the
students have covered this term. The session starts at 9.30am and will conclude at approximately
11am. Morning Tea will follow. This will be a lovely opportunity for you to share in your children’s
learning and inform you regarding possible future discussions. Thank you to Gail and Cassie and the
team at NDCAS for delivering such an interesting, informative and engaging program.
NAPLAN
We have received student results from NAPLAN which students participated in early in Term 2.
Some outstanding results were achieved by students. Individual NAPLAN student reports will go
home with students today. I know parents will take the time to thoroughly examine your
child’s/children’s report. I will be available next week after school to discuss any questions parents
may have in interpreting NAPLAN reports.
Last week
Fairfax PS
had a visit
from Enviro-
Mentors.
Students
were very
interested in
what they can
do to be more
sustainable.
PL (Professional Learning)
Mrs Burtenshaw and Mrs Shields attended a SAP HR Payroll workshop yesterday in Gunnedah. These
workshops have been provided to all schools to support the roll out of the new Schools’ Finance
system.
On Friday, Miss Allan and Mrs Burtenshaw attended an excellent workshop on Evaluation Essentials
which is an area we identified to address in our School Plan. We will be working on this project’s
implementation in our school over the next term to establish good practice into the future.
The Courier
What a lovely surprise it was to find Fairfax students on the front page of The Courier!
Touch Football Gala Day
Mrs Burtenshaw is looking forward to Years 3-6 students playing touch at Cooma Oval, Narrabri
tomorrow in the Touch Football Gala Day. Could parents please ensure they meet Mrs Burtenshaw
near the canteen area at Cooma Oval at 9.45am? Make sure students wear your sports uniform.
Please wear your school hat but bring a cap to wear when playing. Bring lots of water, recess and
lunch. The day is supposed to finish by 2pm, so parents can return to school to pick up Infants
students. A draw is attached along with other information on how the day runs.
You’re Invited!

The Mysterious Robot (Blake)
Boom! Boom! I opened the mysterious box.
What’s that mysterious smell? I see a robot
with very sharp fangs and long arms. The
strange robot has a trapezium shaped head
and still hasn’t moved or talked yet. It has got
a rectangle shaped neck and mean, small eyes.
On its shoulders, head and legs it has
extremely sharp spikes. The ferociously
dangerous robot jumps on top of me and it
smells like rotten eggs. Phew! It didn’t eat me.
It is running towards me! It hit the hoop and
ate it and the robot hit cement and cracked
his head open. Yes! Then I locked him back in
the box. I shouldn’t have opened that box.
Teach-o-Bot.
Chhhhh! As I open the box smoke starts to come out. The smoke
is as white as snow. When the smoke clears there is a robot and
its name is Teach-o-bot. Teach-o-bot is a tin blue colour and fills
in so you don’t have to hire a substitute teacher. Teach-o-bot is
fun, friendly and funny sometimes too. He is safe and is good at
first aid. Teach-o-bot is the best. Quick, open the box again and
see if there is another Teach-o-bot. (Elsie)
Congratulations Molly,
Grace, Chelsea and Hazel
on gaining 2nd place in the
Narrabri Shire Library
Science and Engineering
Investigation awards. A
fantastic effort against
some excellent entries.
Now how do we spend the
$100 prizemoney?
What’s in
the Box?
The Bunyip In The Box Creak!! The heavy lock gently loosened off the box
and fell onto the floor with a tremendously loud
THUD. I tiptoed to the door to see if anyone had
heard the noise. Luckily everyone was occupied
with something I couldn’t quite make out. Slowly I
turned around to see the shock of my life, there
standing before me was the vilest creature that I had
ever seen! It was six feet tall, had a razor fanged
beak, a mass of fur was lingering around it, also it
had a few patches of rough skin where there wasn’t
much fur, on its face there was one eye larger than
the other , the large eye was bulging out of its head
which made it all the more menacing, although
despite all its ferocious looks it had two small stubby
chicken legs that were much more powerful then
you’d expect, and it had two minuscule ears that you
hardly noticed unless you moved closer, but no
sane person would ever go close enough to find out.
The beast spared no time quick as lightning it
grabbed one of the computers, (it belonged to Mrs
Burtenshaw) and like an absolute psychopath
smashed the box into a million pieces, after its rage
fit it charged out the door, outside it looked quite
confused. Then it saw the growing crowd and it
leaped onto them with its chicken legs. It was hard
to describe the moment but it was a mess of blood
and limbs, then suddenly to my horror not one
person was left alive, not one person but me. Then it
turned around with a much different expression, it
looked more like a sense of pride than rage or
savageness. Then it did a gentle bow and hopped
away.

The Creature from the Box (Brigid)
Whoosh! As I lift open the lid of the box, a foul smell fills my nostrils. I peer inside the big, metal box and
see an eye staring up at me. I take a step back. But I have to know what was in the box. So I walk forward
and look back inside. In the box lay the ugliest creature I had ever seen. He has a square head with a
humongous nose and three gigantic nostrils. One of the nostrils is used for smelling, another for blowing and
the third for sucking up messy work. The creature has rotting, green skin the colour of moss and two
bloodshot eyes. But one of them looks like it has been stretched sideways. He has a monobrow and a scar to
the right of his nose, dripping with dark, red blood. His teeth are like chainsaws that rip apart atrocious
work. His brain is made of bolts and is floating in the air above his head.
The crazy mechanical creature has a very skinny neck with bolts and veins popping out of his skin. His
forearms and upper arms are connected by wires and cords. The creature’s fingers are short and stubby
with rotting, yellow finger nails. He’s wearing a tatty, yellow shirt with a rip through the middle. His jeans
are old and patched up everywhere. The creature has a stiff, brown belt with a super big buckle. The crazy
mechanical creature has huge metal boots with spikes at the bottom. When the monster walks, his metal
boots bang onto the ground. His steps are two metres long. The crazy mechanical creature smells like old
socks and mouldy cheese.
The Monster on 16 Legs.
Crack, crack, crack!
Bang! The lock dropped to the floor. I carefully lifted the lid and
glimpsed inside. I came face to face with hundreds of eyes. I quickly
slammed the lid with a bang! But I had to find out what was in the
box. So I opened it once more. There in front of me lay a beast. It
had darting, red, ruby eyes that just stared at you mysteriously. His
monobrow was black, dirty and bushy and had taken over his
forehead.
He had eight long black legs dangling on either side of his body.
On his face, you would never see a smile emerge onto his serious
mouth. His two fangs came right down past his chin. They were
both white and shiny. While one had a nice point to it, the other
had been chipped off in a fight.
You could hardly see his hairy nose because it was filled with green
booger that oozed like squelchy mud.
His body was round, black and had a scar right through his back
with fresh, red blood dripping from it. (Erin)
The Pppirate Map! (Eileen)
Crack! The lock fell to the ground. I
smelt the scent of an old pirate. There
in the box was a thousand year old
pirate map! Then I started to look at it.
The map was brown – it had some sort
of mark on it like coffee and tea mixed
together. The map was very delicate
like pastry, thin and crumbly. On the
back it said, ‘Captain Blackbeard’s map.
Do not touch or there will be
consequences!’ I gently put it in my bag
so nobody would see it.
