FairRubber-MaketheWorldabetterplaceTheaimoftheFairRubberAssociationistheexpansionandapplicationoftheconceptofFairTradeforproductsmadefromnaturalrubber.IntheFairRubberAssociation,companiesengagedinrubberproducts,NonGovernmentalOrganizations(NGOs),andindividualsworktogether.TheultimateaimoftheAssociationistotherebycontributetoanimprovementoftheworkingandlivingconditionsoftheprimaryproducersofnaturallatex(rubber),aswellaspromotetheenvironmentallyfriendlyproductionnaturalrubber,aschemicalfreeproductionfirstandforemostbenefitsthoseengagedinthecultivationofthenaturalrubber.
ThemostimportantinstrumentofFairRubberistheFairRubberlogoforproductswhichfulfilthecriteriaofFairTradeinnaturalrubber.TheFairRubberAssociationinparticularensuresthepaymentoftheFairTradepremiumbybuyersofnaturalrubber.TheprimaryproducersofrubberdecidethemselveshowtheFairTradepremiumisspent.FairRubberalsohelps,ifrequested,producerpartnerswithFSC®certification.
WhatisFairlyTradedRubber?Thelowworldmarketpricespaidforrubber,makeitverydifficultforthetappers,plantationworkersandsmallfarmerstosupportthemselvesandtheirfamilieswiththeirownlabour.
ThisiswheretheFairRubberAssociationwantstohelp.PayingaFairTradepremiumtotheprimaryproducersensurestotheextentpossiblethatevenduringperiodsofdepressedworldmarketprices,thecostsofproductionarecoveredandthesuppliershaveasurplus.Cruciallythisallowsthemtoimprovetheirworkingandlivingconditions.ThedecisionastohowtheywouldspendtheFairTradepremium,ofcourse,remainswiththeprimaryproducers.
