PHIL WAS HERE:SPI and PHIL’S DAY The PHIL concept (PHIL WAS HERE) was

created in 2009 for our Student Philanthropy Initiative (SPI) to promote philanthropy awareness among UI students.

PHIL and Phil’s Day have been well received by faculty and staff, too.

WE ARE PHIL is a new take on PHIL, designed with you in mind.

Lends itself well to ongoing/future collaboration with SPI on campus communications and events.

What is the UI Foundation?

The preferred channel for private contributions to the University of Iowa

A nonprofit IRC Sec. 501(c)(3) organization

We fundraise according to priorities set by the university president in consultation with deans, directors, and other campus leaders.

Organized in 1956 to help the university meet needs beyond those provided for by state support, and to reach new levels of distinction by generating significant private gift support

What is the foundation’s purpose?MISSION: “Advancing the University of Iowa and

fulfilling the aspirations of those it serves.”

The foundation exists solely to provide support for the university. Gifts made through the foundation are used to support students, faculty, staff, facilities, and programs at the UI.
