Kokkala,Irene (F) BIOL 4470 Human Histology: Online, 4, UT

SCI 1000 Medical Terminology, 2, UT

PHD, Zoology/Animal Bio, Clemson University

MS, Bio, General, Western Kentucky University

Undergraduate degree in

Zootechnology includes aspects of

Animal Husbandry and Veterinary

Science; obtained in Greece, the

degree comprises over 400 credit

hours and can be considered

equivalent to a masters level degree

in the U.S.

Dr. Kokkala's research in

developmental biology and

embryology involves physiology of

placental analogs and is closely

connected to medical research.

More recently, she has collaborated

on research involving effects of

methamphetamines, also closely

tied to medical research. She is also

a former member of Regional

Electron Microscopy Society.

Additional note about Medical

Terminology course: It is a freshman

level elective with a general SCI

(Science) prefix;

Dr. Kokkola's M.S. in Biology and

Ph.D. in Zoology, combined with her

knowledge of veterinary science and

research aligned with the medical

sciences are ample credentials for a

course of this type.

continued his studies in geology

with geology workshops including a

Chautaqua course in 1997 and a

weeklong GIS workshop in 1998.

Since being hired by North Georgia

in 1995, he has taught introductory

geology courses 37 times over that

18-year period and is regarded as a

local expert.

He maintains active memberships in

GMS (Georgia Mineral Society) and

the Tellus Science Museum, both of

which keep him current in the field

of geology.

These credentials, in conjunction

with his doctorate in chemistry,

qualify him to teach introductory

Geology courses, which have a

significant amount of chemistry

embedded in the course content.

Though Dr. Batchelder's expertise is

in Criminal Justice, his earning two

Master's degrees and a Ph. D shows

that he has mastered academic skills

and can teach first-year students

how to be academically successful

based on his experiences.

The GSTU 4000, General Studies

Senior Seminar, is designed to help

individuals integrate their three

focus areas and learn research

strategies and technologies related

to their focus groups.

In the course students are taught

interview and resume building skills,

to develop a portfolio and to

analyze quality research, among

other things. Dr. Batchelder holds a

Ph.D. in Adult Education with an

emphasis in Educational Research.

His Ph.D. coursework prepared him

to work with adult learners in the

areas of methods and materials in

adult education; program and

curriculum planning; and research

methods.

To assist General Studies students

in making sense of the many

courses they've completed by

showcasing the similarities in the

coursework and curriculum and by

teaching them to identify and

perform quality research in their

area of interest.

His publications in adult education

and technology and higher

education have also provided him a

unique background to teach the

course.
