Expectations for doctors and medical
professionals have increased along with the
advancements in medicine. Doctors’ and other
health professionals’ roles are mostly bounded by

discovering and treating illnesses but it is also
paramount to focus on the ethical and legal
aspects surrounding everyday practice.
Our Master in Medical Ethics & Medical
Jurisprudence programme incorporates various
aspects of learning modes that enable the
candidates to be exposed to multiple issues
concerning competency, responsibility, ethical

Career Prospect
Master in Medical Ethics and Medical Jurisprudence
Advancement in the medical field has led to high expectations
on the part of patients. Furthermore, patients in the 21st
century are more educated and knowledgeable about various
treatments and their possible outcomes and risks. Health
professionals therefore require knowledge and skills to
communicate information to patients and safeguard
themselves. The learning outcomes of this programme will
enable the health professionals to carry out their
responsibilities in the best possible manner - the manner
which is expected of them.
Through the acquired competencies, students would be able to
handle issues related to medical ethics and law in their day-to-
day work. They will be able to advise and suggest alternative
measures to their colleagues and departments in dealing with
matters surrounding the area. Should the issue be too difficult
for them to handle by themselves they will be able to gauge the
seriousness of the issue and then consult the relevant people to
help solve the problem. Those employed in the
legal/enforcement units
A few of our alumni go on to work in policy-related positions
in the government sector. We also have a number of alumni
who have worked or are working in the medico-legal
department in various hospitals and the enforcement agencies
in the government. A number of alumni are teaching ethics and
law in medical school.
