SHOWCASE SERIES FOR LIBRARY SUPPORT STAFF
This series provides Senior Library Assistants, Library Assistants, Service Support Assistants and other support staff with the opportunity to visit sections of the Library and to hear about the services provided in those library sections. These sessions may take the form of demonstrations, information sessions and tours.
Two areas of the Library were showcased in 2011 with multiple sessions held for each area:
Architecture Music Library - large special collection of music scores, sound and video recordings, maps, architectural plans and trade literature in addition to the general collection of books and journal volumes.
Fryer Library - participants viewed the special collections and heard about the extensive collections of rare books, manuscripts and ephemera held by Fryer Library. They heard

about the work performed by Fryer staff to preserve the collection and provide access to it as well as the assistance provided to researchers.
Other staff development activities included:
Maintaining a Harassment Free Workplace workshops run for Library staff by the Human Resources Consultant and the Staff Development Consultant.
Creative Problem Solving workshop for the 7 Up Group.
The Indigenous Awareness Series was launched in October by Professor Cindy Shannon, Pro Vice Chancellor (Indigenous Education) who spoke on Indigenous Education at UQ.
The Library Journal Club was established this year.
WELLNESS PROGRAM
In 2011 there was a career development stream added to the Wellness Program with presentations by Cate Page, Senior EAP Consultant from Davidson, Trahaire and Corpsych. Sessions were run on
Surviving and Succeeding at Your Next Interview, Your Next Performance Review - Preparing and Managing and Achieving and Maintaining Career Satisfaction. Psychological wellness was also addressed with a session on How to relax and stop worrying.
In the later part of the year two sessions were held on nutrition - these were delivered by a nutritionist from Nutrition Australia. The first was on Healthy Eating on a Budget and the second took the form of a Nutritional Cooking demonstration. The final Wellness session for 2011 was on Surviving Christmas and presented by the Staff Support and Rehabilitation Advisers from the HR Division

Significant additions to the Fryer Library manuscript collections in 2011 included:

Fryer was very grateful to the Alumni Friends of the University of Queensland for a valuable donation of rare books consisting of four volumes of rare nineteenth-century photographs of the Middle East by Francis Frith and the two volume work British gallery of contemporary portraits (1822), which contains 150 stipple engraved portraits of British celebrities of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, accompanied by biographical text.
