15th Sunday in Ordinary time July 15, 2018
July 15, 2018 Good Sunday to all! Last week was the third in the series of homilies: Good new! God loves our fragile families. *Jesus calls these same fragile, imperfect families to be prophets. Prophetic families, who live the Word of God with
power and conviction in the midst of an unfriendly American society. *In what ways are Catholic families called to be prophetic and out of the “norm”? I can think of many of the teachings
of the Catholic Church that give offense to our secular society: Living marriage as a life-long relationship. A rela-tionship exclusively between one man and one woman. Open to life and opposed to the contraceptive spirit. Rela-tionships that experience hurts and betrayals, “I am sorry”s and reconciliation.
*Our nation needs strong Catholic and Christian families, who choose to follow the Holy Spirit rather than the spirit of the world. At our Baptisms, anointed with chrism and filled with the Holy Spirit, we become priests, kings and prophets.
Religious Education (CCD) News: I wanted to bring this news to the parish. Wendy Royston who has been serving as DRE (Director of Religious Education) for the last two years will be leaving her position to take on new opportunities. Wendy has been so generous with our community and I want to thank you publically for her stewardship. We will have a chance in the coming months as a parish community to celebrate and thank her. In the meantime, I would ask that the parish would join me in prayer, asking the Lord to bring forth the right person who would be interested in this part-time position. The training of our young people in the Faith is one of the most important duties of a Catholic parish. If anyone has questions about the job description, please contact me directly: 214-0321.
Blessings on your week. FR DAVID

A Family Perspective by Bud Ozar Jesus sent out His apostles without a lot of “things” because THINGS distract. We collect, argue about and protect our “things.” Garage sales only transfer “things. ”We even ignore each other because we have “things” to do. What “things” are separating you from your family?

A Prayer for Kindness in All Things
Dear Lord, I praise you as the essence of all things loving; You are complete in Yourself; You are un-conditional in Love. In my heart I desire to be more like You, and I invite you to be with me as I move about through my day. When I begin to compare myself to others, let me remember that we are all made in your likeness, and that each of our bodies is a temple of Your Holy Spirit. When I am tempted to make judgments about the actions, behaviors, even the looks of others as a way of making myself feel better, come to my aid and bring about in me a spirit of contentment, a spirit of gratitude. Help me to treat each person I encounter as I would like to be treated, and fill me with loving kindness so that my thoughts, words, and deeds flow from Your spirit of unconditional Love. Let me remember You al-ways; let me be ever aware of Your presence in each moment of my life, as I would surely cease to live, to move, to have my being if thought of me falls from Your mind’s embrace for the span of even one breath; for it is Your breath that gives me life.
I ask all these things through Christ who strength-
ens me. Amen.

Prayer to St. Christopher for Safe Travels and Motorists Grant me, O Lord, a steady hand and watchful eye, that no
one shall be hurt as I pass by. Thou gavest life, I pray no
act of mine may take away or mar that gift of Thine. Shel-
ter those, dear Lord, who bear my company from the evils
of fire and all calamity. Teach me to use my car for others
need; Nor miss through love of undue speed. The beauty of
the world; that thus I may with joy and courtesy go on my
way. St. Christopher, holy patron of travelers, protect me, and lead
me safely to my destiny. Saint Christopher’s Protection Prayer Dear
Saint Christopher, protect me today in all my travels along the road’s
way. Give your warning sign if danger is near so that I may stop while
the path is clear. Be at my window and direct me through when the
vision blurs From out of the blue. Carry me safely to my destined
place, like you carried Christ in your close embrace. Amen.
