“I see how stiff-necked this people is,” continued the Lord to Moses.

(Exodus 32.10) Perhaps you have awakened one morning with a “stiff neck.” We find ourselves unable to turn our head or look up or down--it can be quite unpleas-ant until we are once again able to move about freely. I find it interesting that this word is used in the bible to describe a spiritual condition. (Some-times the words “hard headed” are used.) The author is describing an attitude that makes us un-able to respond to God who is active in our lives. Moses and Jesus especially encountered this in-flexibility and stubbornness among the priests and scribes and Pharisees, the leaders of the people. God’s grace and mercy is always a surprise and it will always challenge the status quo. When Jesus tells parables about a shepherd going after one lost sheep and a father making a fool of himself to get his son back he wants us to know that God will bend over backwards to get us back. This week, let us allow the flexibility of God’s mercy to wash over us and to flow through us to others!

de cabeza dura.” (Éxodo 32.10) Quizás se haya despertado una mañana con un “dolor de cuello”. Nos encontramos incapaces de voltear la cabeza o mirar hacia arriba o hacia aba-jo - puede ser bastante desagradable hasta que una vez más podamos movernos libremente. Me parece interesante que esta palabra se use en la Biblia para describir una condición espiritual. (A veces se usan las palabras "cabeza dura"). El au-tor describe una actitud que nos hace incapaces de responder a Dios, que está activo en nuestras vidas. Moisés y Jesús encontraron especialmente esta inflexibilidad y terquedad entre los sacerdo-tes, los escribas y los fariseos, los líderes del pue-blo. La gracia y la misericordia de Dios siempre es una sorpresa y siempre desafiará la situación presente. Cuando Jesús cuenta las parábolas so-bre un pastor que persigue a una oveja perdida y un padre que hace el ridículo para recuperar a su hijo, quiere que sepamos que Dios se inclinará hacia atrás para recuperarnos. ¡Esta semana, permitamos que la flexibilidad de la misericordia de Dios se apodere de nosotros y fluya a través de nosotros hacia los demás!

Stewardship and September 15’s Readings In spite of the Lord’s appeals to us to trust Him and to follow Him, we often resist, usually because fol-lowing the Lord can be uncomfortable. God’s ex-pectations sometimes seem unreasonable and even impossible…and that is the challenge of life as a steward. It is not always easy, and it may put us in positions where we feel uneasy and even vul-nerable. Moses pleads the case for his people to God and the Lord responds to Moses’ prayer, and Scripture tells us “So the Lord relented in the pun-ishment.” We need to trust the Lord and pray to Him, as He will respond with love and mercy.

Planned Parenthood opens in KCK Information Meeting Here September 30

We will hold an information meeting about the re-cent development of Planned Parenthood opening an abortion clinic at 1854 Minnesota Ave in KCK. Green Club News When the Green Club started 50 years ago, the members decided they had 3 goals: 1) Religious; 2) Social; and 3) Civic. Over the years, the mem-bers have been very prolific in promoting the reli-gious goals with their participation in all parish or-ganizations, activities, positions and offices includ-ing Capital Fund Drives. They were very active in the new Church Fund Drive, the Parish Center Fund Drive, and the Church Remodeling Fund Drive. The social goals include the Ice Cream So-cials, Fish Dinners, Knights of Columbus and oc-casionally special events. Member fulfill their civic duties by trying to live a good Catholic Christian life. They are examples of faith to their wives, chil-dren, co-workers, and communities. All men of the parish are invited to our next every other week meeting on Monday, September 30 at 6:30 pm for a get-acquainted session and refreshments. We hope to see you there! The recycling compa-ny now has a $200 monthly charge city-wide for this service. Please be aware that the recycling bin next to the school is for school recycling needs only and not for newspaper recycling.
