    3. Classification The level gauge shall be classified into A (for steel pipes), A (for copper pipes), B and C Types according to the shape of upper body. 4. Construction, shape and dimensions The construction, shape and dimensions of level gauge shall be as shown in Fig. 1. However, Fig. 1 shows the level gauge with a joint. The permissible deviation of thickness of the upper and lower bodies and the joint body shall, as a rule, be within 0.5 mm. The dimensions of use tubular glass shall be 160.5 mm in outside diameter. 5. Materials The materials of level gauges shall be as shown in Fig. 2.

    6. Tests and inspections 6.1 General tests and inspections Following test shall be carried out in accordance with the requirements of JIS F 7400. a) Material inspection b) Visual inspection c) Dimensional inspection d) Assembly inspection e) Hydraulic inspection The hydraulic inspection shall be carried out at the following test pressures:

    1) Hydraulic inspection for upper and lower bodies, and joint bodies 0.7 MPa 2) Watertight inspection for valve seat 0.15 MPa from flange side

    6.2 Operational inspection The operation of level gauges shall be verified by opening and shutting the valve of the level gauges after filling the upper body (upper body and lower body in case of C type) with oil where no abnormality shall be caused. 6.3 Inspection for spring The inspection for spring shall be in accordance with JIS B 2704. 7. Designation The level gauge shall be designated by title of the standard, classification and number of joints or symbol. JIS number may be used in place of the title. The nipple dimensions of the upper body of Type A and materials shall be specified by purchaser at each time.

    Reference: The protector and support are not specified, but exemplified in Reference Figs. 2 and 3. For ordering

    these pieces including tubular glasses, it is preferable to use the following designation of Example 1, 2.

    The designation includes the title of the standard, class, number of joints, length, materials and number of tubular glasses, and shape of protector or support, or symbol.

    Example 1. For a type A oil level gauge with a joint, two tubular glasses of 300 mm in length and two protectors:

    Marine oil level gauge with self-closing valve, Type A with a Joint 300K2 or FGLS-A1-G 300 K 2 or JIS F 7212-A1-G300 K 2 number of tubular glasses and protectors shape of protector length of tubular glass Material of tubular glass (G: tempered glass)

Marking The level gauges shall be marked with the following particulars on the upper and lower bodies and the surface of joint. a) Nominal pressure 16K or 5K on the upper and lower body b) Fitting direction Top on the upper part of joint c) Manufacturers name or mark d) Year and month of manufacture

    number of joints; number, length and materials of tubular glasses; and the protector (Refer to Reference Figs. 2).

    2. The dimensions H and H1 for the joint of one or more are shown in the case where the tubular glasses of same length are combined, but if necessary, glasses of different length may be used in properly combination.

    3. The maximum length of one tubular glass is preferably 600 mm for the inorganic or tempered glass to prevent fracture, and 2000 mm for the glass taking its thermal expansion into account. In these cases, however, it is desirable to fit the glass supports at the maximum intervals of 600 mm (p).

    4. When the length of tubular glass is equal, the dimensions for H and H1 are as follows: The dimensions h, h1 and h2 for the length (L) of the tubular glass: h =L + 30 h1 =L + 25 h2=L + 40 for cases without joint H=L+30 H1=L+45 5. The calculated mass is the weight of upper body, lower valve and joint, and the weight of tubular glass and
