Community Service Spotlight

Albany County 4-H Community Service Committee is excited to recogniz 4-H members who are doing community

services and volunteering in Albany County! This month we are featuring...

Hi. My name is Rowan Urschel.

I am 12 years old, and I am in the

club Smokin' Guns. I volunteer at

Mountain Shadows Equine Revival

(MSER), Laramie's very own horse

rescue! MSER is a nonprofit horse

rescue that saves horses from

bad situations, trains them to the

best of their ability, and adopts

them to the most loving homes

they can provide. I go to MSER 2-3

days a week to muck stalls and

exercise horses. I am also learning

how to train them. What I like

most about MSER is the people

because we are like a big family.

Everyone is always supportive

and willing to teach me everything

they know. My family and I

adopted our little black Arabian,

Hope, from MSER, and she couldn't

have been any more perfect for us.

As of this 4H year, Hope and I are

doing 4H Horse and preparing for

our first show! Just like Hope,

plenty of our other horses have

found amazing families, and I

"Hope" many more horses that go

through our rescue find their

perfect homes as well. Thank you

MSER!

There is a $12 fee per youth per class to use this option. You must pay this fee to register for the class. You can use a credit or

debit card or there is an option to pay by check. There are no refunds for youth who complete classes in the wrong age group.

Each youth will need to complete the class individually, completing as a group is not an option because the program tracks each

youth individually. Youth will be directed to complete at least three modules for the class to be considered complete.

Each youth will need their own email address.

Print off your completion certificates and email to Mary Louise or bring to Extension Office.

All 4-H members who plan on selling any market animal at the 4-H Livestock Sale during fair are required to take Quality Assurance

classes. Class topics cover areas of appropriate care and handling of animals and how this impacts product quality. This year we

are offering an online option through the University of Nebraska as well as two face-to-face classes in Laramie. All training must

be completed by the fair entry deadline of July 9th.

A youth must take it once in each 4-H age group they are registered in (once as a Junior 8-10, once as an Intermediate 11-13, once

as a Senior 14-18). Ages are based on the youth’s 4-H age (age as of January 1st of the 4-H year: The age the youth was on January

1, 2021). Information on the class options are below. If you have a question about what classes you have completed, what option would be

best for you, or what your 4-H age is please email or call the extension office.

Face to Face Class: May 20th at 6pm in the Extension Meeting Room. Please RSVP by NOON on May 19th at 721-2571 or
