Cross-Country Ski Nights Location: Cedar Falls, IA Date: Tuesday nights from January 28 - February 25 Time: 5 PM Cost: $5 Spend some time cross-country skiing on the west campus recreation trails with UNI Outdoors. Snow permitting, we will meet in the outdoor recreation office (WRC 174) to gear up and head out to the trails. Skis, boots, and headlamps are provided and no experience is necessary. Be sure to dress for the weather! After hitting the trails, we will brew up some hot chocolate to warm up. Kayak Skills & Roll Clinic Location: WRC 174 Date: February 3, 10, 19, 26 Cost: $10 per clinic In this clinic you will learn both introductory and advanced skills, whether you need them to float down a river on a leisurely paddle or go down the craziest rapids. Skills that will be covered include stability, strokes, braces, sculling, and the famous kayak roll. Outdoor Skills Clinic Location: WRC 174 Date: March 11 Cost: $10 per clinic Interested in learning the basics of conquering the great outdoors? Join our wilderness experts to learn how to set up tents, light camping stoves, start fires, and gain many other skills that will suit your outdoor needs. Climbing Instructional Clinic Location: WRC 174 Date: April 1 Cost: $10 per clinic The climbing skills clinic is designed for all skill levels. Whether you are just getting into the sport or working on breaking into the advanced 5.12 climbs, we have something for you. Project A.W.A.R.E. Location: WRC 174 Date: Late June or early July Cost: TBD For our second year partnering with UNI Office of Sustainability, students will be financially supported to help out with Iowa’s largest week-long river clean-up sponsored by the DNR. Spend the day in a canoe with other Iowa residents and give back to our local waters by collecting debris, tires, and water samples. After a long day of paddling and picking up trash, either hit up one of the informational sessions or hang out with fellow UNI students or Iowa residents at the campgrounds. With delicious food catered by Hy-Vee and other accommodations provided by DNR and UNI Outdoors, this trip is a fun and rewarding way to give back. No canoeing experience is necessary. Rivers, campgrounds, and final plans will not be released by the DNR until March; exact costs for students will be determined early in the semester. Indoor Climbing Wall One of the most popular features available to the UNI community is the climbing wall housed in the Wellness/Recreation Center. This is one of the largest indoor climbing walls in Iowa. Standing at 38.5 feet, this structure offers almost 3,000 square feet of climbing on 11 different ropes. There is also a bouldering section. The wall provides a great opportunity for developing fitness, strength, confidence, and climbing skills. Equipment Rental We have awesome equipment available to rent for all of your outdoor fun! Fast-paced and hands-on, this two-day course covers a wide range of wilderness medicine topics for those who travel in the outdoors. Whether spending time in the backcountry is your passion or your profession, you should never have to ask, “What do I do now?” In this course, you’ll learn how to prepare for the unexpected. Wilderness Medicine Institute’s curriculum is unique and includes many advanced topics that other programs don’t cover, such as dislocation reduction, focused spinal assessment and epinephrine administration. In just two days, you’ll have the knowledge, skills and ability to make sound decisions in emergency situations. This course is ideal for trip leaders, camp sta� , outdoor enthusiasts and individuals in remote locations. WMI’s course is preapproved by organizations such as the American Camping Association, the United States Forest Service, and other governmental agencies. This course does not include CPR.h

Step out of the classroom and into the wilderness this spring break as we embark on the historic Appalachian Trail. The AT, which is located in the Eastern US, winds more than 2,100 miles from Maine to Georgia. We will backpack more than 40 miles over a � ve-day period through the rugged Appalachian Mountains of the Deep South. Come see why so many people are attracted to this beautiful trail. During our travel to and from the trail, we will also visit Mammoth Cave National Park for a day of spelunking and hit the Ocoee River for a thrilling whitewater rafting adventure. Join us for this exciting multi-sport adventure! No experience is necessary and outdoor equipment is provided.

It o� ers the best variety of terrain, from beginner to expert. This exciting Midwest skiing adventure comes with an-all day Saturday lift ticket and one night of lodging in a local hotel. Join UNI Outdoors for information on our May Inca Trail & Machu Picchu adven-ture. During this presentation we will show pictures of the region, highlight our itinerary, and answer any questions you might have about our journey. Be a part of our group and travel to one of the seven wonders of the world!

Walk in the steps of the Incas as we travel in South America to the country of Peru. Your journey will begin in the city of Cusco, the capital city of the Inca Empire, where our trip will be based. At an elevation of 10,900 feet, Cusco is in the heart of the Andes Mountains. A day after arriving in Peru we will head to the Urubamba River for a nice Class III whitewater rafting trip. This day will be purposefully low-exertion to help acclimatize to high altitude. The next six days will be spent walking in the footsteps of the Incas before arriving near the Machu Picchu archeological site. During this part of our journey we will be accompanied by a certi� ed English-speaking guide and pack animals for our du� el bags. Meals will be provided at camps. Upon completion of our trek, we will enjoy an evening in a hotel with the opportunity to soak in the thermal hot springs near Aguas Calientes to soothe sore trekking muscles and admire the great views above. The last full day of our adventure will include a visit to the Lost City of the Incas, Machu Picchu! After a long visit at Machu Picchu we will take a train back to Cusco for the evening before � ying home the next day.*Prerequisites for the trip include having a good level of � tness and an adven-turesome spirit!

Optional 4-Day Glacier Climb to an Andean SummitDates: May 25 - 29Cost: $700For those who are interested, there will be an option to stay in the area for a 4-day mountaineering adventure. The goal will be to summit 18,040-foot Nevado Jampa. The trip will include trekking with guides and pack animals to a base camp with nearby hot springs. There will also be a short glacier climb among crevasses and snow � elds to an awesome summit. No climbing experi-ence is necessary, and all technical gear and guiding is provided to make this a spectacular experience. This will be in a remote Peruvian region with great scenery and unique cultural experiences.

We will then travel to Northern Florida to canoe the crystal-clear waters of the Santa Fe River, camping along the way. This spring-fed river is well-known for diverse populations of wildlife. If you’re lucky, you may even get to canoe alongside manatees in the river! Join UNI Outdoors as we explore scenic rivers and sandy beaches. No experience is necessary and outdoor equipment is provided.

Come shred gnar on world-famous sandstone during a weekend of bouldering and climbing in Jackson Falls, located in the beautiful Shawnee National Forest of Southern Illinois. Come join us for the canoeing adventure of a lifetime in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. This 45-mile, � ve day/four night backcountry experience will be sure to excite. The area is in one of the most pristine, untouched areas of the United States and will provide memories that will last a lifetime. If � shing interests you, this is also one of the most famed areas for catching walleye and pike in the states. No experience is necessary and all are welcome!*If � shing, please note you will have to obtain a 7-day nonresidential MN � shing license for $38 and must bring your own � shing gear.
