EDUCATION ASSISTANCE

McLeod is committed to enhancing an individual's contribution or potential contribution to McLeod To assist employees m this effort, McLeod offers an educational assistance program

The program consists of two types of assistance

1 Job Related Courses, 2 Career Related Courses

ELIGIBILITY:

Only regular, full-time employees (72 hours or more bi-weekly) who have completed six months of full time service are eligible to participate m the program Employees must also have maintained an expected performance record

COURSE PRE-APPROVAL :

In an effort to objectively meet the needs of McLeod Health, McLeod Health Scholarship Committee will review scholarship applications, tuition reimbursement requests, and make final approval for individuals to receive scholarships or tuition reimbursement Expense related to educational assistance are not charged to individual cost centers, Department Directors and respective Vice Presidents will be involved with the approval process through then recommendation of the individuals for the scholarship or tuition reimbursement based on the employee's current job performance

JOB RELATED COURSES:

Job related courses of instruction are courses that will directly improve an employee's effectiveness in their present fob All incidental expenses, including registration/enrollment fees and books will be paid m full prior to registration The decision as to whether or not a course qualifies as directly fob related is made by the Department Director and respective Vice Presidents and is forwarded to the McLeod Health Scholarship Committee for final approval

1 Career related courses are reimbursed (not prepaid), unless otherwise determined by the Scholarship Committee. The CRC program only covers tuition unless otherwise determined by the Scholarship committee Books, supplies, etc are paid by the employee See later guidelines for approval procedures

2 Prior to registration, the employee should subuvt a Request for Educational Assistance Form through the proper channels, as mentioned earlier along with a recommendation from the Director based on current job performance. (See 18322 700 05, Job Related Courses, Items 3 and 4) . Human Resources will pend the approved request until the employee successfully completes the course See Item 4 below

3 Once courses are approved m advance of registration, the employee may expect to be reimbursed for tuition cost after successfully passing the course (C or better) unless otherwise determined by the Scholarship Committee It is the employee's responsibility to provide proof of satisfactory completion, final grade, subaussion of the request, receipt of paid tuition (no cancelled checks), and passing documentation to Human Resources for payment.

4. Employees who receive other forms of educational aid (i.e. Veteran's benefits, scholarships) may not receive reimbursement for the same costs

The procedure for approval/payment is listed below

1 The employee should complete a Request for Educational Assistance Form and attach a copy of the flyer/brochure/course description which shows the course cost

2 The Department Director will approve/disapprove the request based on the course/job relatedness and the employee's current job performance, and if approved, will forward the form to the respective Vice President

3 If approved, the Vice President will forward the original copy to the Human Resources Department for presentation to the McLeod Health Scholarship Committee for approval and payment Notification of approval or denial to the employee will be made following review of the Committee

4 The employee is expected to complete the course and receive a passing grade (C or better) If t}us requirement is not met, the employee would be responsible for repaying McLeod Health for all costs

CAREER RELATED COURSES:

Career related courses (CRC) are courses that will prepare an employee to pursue a planned career path that conforms to McLeod's current manpower planning needs and is approved by the McLeod Health Scholarship Committee It is important to realize that while McLeod is an advocate of an employee's personal development and educational achievement, it cannot financially support everyone's educational endeavors.

Due to the difficulty of recruiting certain positions, McLeod may elect to assist employees who pursue these positions/careers Examples of hard to recruit positions include therapists (OT, PT. RT. Rad Tech) technologists (ST, CVT. MT. NMT, EEG. ECHO) anesthetists, nursing, etc

These positions will vary from time to time depending on market demand Therefore, McLeod Health will review requests based on its current and perceived needs

TUITION REFUND:

If for any reason, by any party, the employment relationship terminates prior to 12 months after completion of each course, or if the employment status is changed to less that the eligibility requirements, the employee will refund McLeod the tuition reimbursement by McLeod on a pro rata bass based upon the number of months worked since completing the course

The employee will sign an agreement to this effect as part of the request The agreement will not affect the employment relationship, which is at will and is only intended to define the financial obligation of the employee Arrangements for repayment are coordinated by a Human Resources representative Failure to repay money owed could lead to movement of the account to an agency authorized to collect on McLeod's behalf

Care for these patients included 9,765 inpatient surgeries 430 open-heart surgeries, and 4,368 cath lab procedures, and 2,103 newborn deliveries Caregivers also provide 17,873 outpatient surgeries in 2002

Volunteers continued to be the pulse of the McLeod lifeline in 2002 More than 300 volunteers donated their time and energy to help streamline McLeod's daily functions The 47,185 reported volunteer hours were spent reading books to frightened children staying in the Children's Hospital, staffing the play room, operating the gift shop, manning informational desks, and providing an additional set of hands to departments and employees

The Guest House located dust across the street from McLeod's main campus in Florence becomes a home away from home for patients' families The Guest House, funded entirely by donors to the McLeod Foundation, has seen over 6,000 guests, primarily families of patients receiving treatment in intensive care units at McLeod
