The VIRGINIAS CHAPTER Board is pleased to announce the P Daniel DeBoer Jr
Scholarship in honor of CMAA Member P Daniel DeBoer Jr for his steadfast com-
mitment to the education and training of Club Management Professionals Danny is
a steward for lifelong learning and an example of perseverance to many within the
club industry The scholarship is supported by contributions made by Virginias Chap-
terrsquos Platinum Gold and Silver Partners The scholarship provides tuition support to
club management professionals who are interested in pursuing the Certified Club
Manager (CCM) designation Recipients of this valuable scholarship receive assis-
tance with tuition costs associated with CMAArsquos Business Management Institutes
(BMI) including BMI I BMI II BMI III BMI Food and Beverage and the Certification
Review Course and other CCM associated fees including and not limited to World
Conference
The VIRGINIAS CHAPTER values its partners for providing the resources necessary
to maintain these scholarships The Virginias Chapter Board has approved two
$ 2 5 0 0 S c h o l a r s h i p s f o r F Y 2 0 1 8
Nominations and Entries will be accepted through September 1 2018 The
Scholarships will be announced at the Chapterrsquos Annual Meeting Additional
details can be found on the nomination form found here
Criteria for consideration
-Must have been a member of CMAA for 2 years
-Must be a member of the Virginias Chapter for 2 years
-Must be a current employee of a club within the boundaries of the Chapter
-Must have attended at least four meetings a year for the past two years
Other criteria to consider
-Club work history
-Special activityactivities that make this employeemanager notable
-Other positions in the hospitalityclub industry
-Other honors achievements or contributions to the development of the club management
profession through leadership involvement and service
-Commitment to continuing education

ties to the evolving needs of its membership Join Farmington Country Clubs
Head Golf Professional Rob McNamara named MAPGAs 2018 Golf Profes-
sional of the Year and Golf Course Superintendent Scott Kinnan for a presenta-
tion about the Future of Golf They will outline the development of Farmingtons
Coore amp Crenshaw designed golf facilities that include a 10-hole short course
short game practice area driving range and indoor golf performance center that
is complete with TrackMan and SAM PuttLab technology Following the pres-
entation Rob and Scott will lead a tour of the East Course and golf facility
Breakfast and lunch will be served Enjoy a round of golf on the new East

These awards were announced on Tuesday March 6 at the Closing Business Session of the 91st World Conference on Club Management and the Club Business Expo in San Francisco

WELCOME
Michael is originally born in Las Vegas Nevada but moved to Richmond Virginia as a
baby He began his hospitality career in 2006 at the age of 17 as a valet and has worked
in one role or another at The Country Club of Virginia ever since He attended Radford
University studying Criminal Justice but continued to work at CCV through school
breaks and summers before realizing a preferred career in the Hospitality Industry Af-
ter completing his studies at Radford University he was promoted The Country Club of
Virginia as the Member Services Supervisor in 2011 After working in the Member Ser-
vices Department for four years in 2016 he made the move to Food and Beverage as a
Supervisor in The Grill In 2017 he was promoted to the Assistant Manager
STEVEN C LAYDEN JR PRINCESS ANNE COUNTRY CLUB
A native of Virginia Beach VA Steve Layden has worked in the private country club
industry for nearly 20 years Steve currently serves as clubhouse restaurant manager for
the Princess Anne Country Club the same club where he began his career During his
tenure at the Princess Anne Steve has grown to love and appreciate the Clubrsquos members
and team referring to the club as ldquotruly my home away from homerdquo He believes that
itrsquos not work if you enjoy what you do
MICHAEL SALISBURY THE COUNTRY CLUB OF VIRGINIA
Charles is native of RICHMOND Va and a graduate of Armstrong high school Class of
94 Charles has three kids two girls and 1 boy Daughters are ages 25 and 20 and a Son age
19 Charles began working for The Country Club of Virginia in the December 2000 where
he served as a locker room attendant for the Westhampton clubhouse until September
2001 He then transferred to the James River Clubhouse upon opening to serve as locker
attendant there where his service continued for approximately two years Charles then ac-
cepted a role in the mens grill as a bartender Following six months of service Charles re-
ceived a promotion to serve as the Support Service Supervisor for the James River Club-
house and ultimately an additional promotion into his current role as the Clubhouse Opera-
tions Manager of The James River Clubhouse Charles looks forward to active participation
in CMAA

A native of Virginia Beach VA Steve Layden has worked in the private country club
industry for nearly 20 years Steve currently serves as clubhouse restaurant manager for
the Princess Anne Country Club the same club where he began his career During his
tenure at the Princess Anne Steve has grown to love and appreciate the Clubrsquos members
and team referring to the club as ldquotruly my home away from homerdquo He believes that

Charles is native of RICHMOND Va and a graduate of Armstrong high school Class of
94 Charles has three kids two girls and 1 boy Daughters are ages 25 and 20 and a Son age
19 Charles began working for The Country Club of Virginia in the December 2000 where
he served as a locker room attendant for the Westhampton clubhouse until September
2001 He then transferred to the James River Clubhouse upon opening to serve as locker
attendant there where his service continued for approximately two years Charles then ac-
cepted a role in the mens grill as a bartender Following six months of service Charles re-
ceived a promotion to serve as the Support Service Supervisor for the James River Club-
house and ultimately an additional promotion into his current role as the Clubhouse Opera-
tions Manager of The James River Clubhouse Charles looks forward to active participation
in CMAA

Scholarship in honor of CMAA Member P Daniel DeBoer Jr for his steadfast com-
mitment to the education and training of Club Management Professionals Danny is
a steward for lifelong learning and an example of perseverance to many within the
club industry The scholarship is supported by contributions made by Virginias Chap-
terrsquos Platinum Gold and Silver Partners The scholarship provides tuition support to
club management professionals who are interested in pursuing the Certified Club
Manager (CCM) designation Recipients of this valuable scholarship receive assis-
tance with tuition costs associated with CMAArsquos Business Management Institutes
(BMI) including BMI I BMI II BMI III BMI Food and Beverage and the Certification
Review Course and other CCM associated fees including and not limited to World
Conference

Michael is originally born in Las Vegas Nevada but moved to Richmond Virginia as a
baby He began his hospitality career in 2006 at the age of 17 as a valet and has worked
in one role or another at The Country Club of Virginia ever since He attended Radford
University studying Criminal Justice but continued to work at CCV through school
breaks and summers before realizing a preferred career in the Hospitality Industry Af-
ter completing his studies at Radford University he was promoted The Country Club of
Virginia as the Member Services Supervisor in 2011 After working in the Member Ser-
vices Department for four years in 2016 he made the move to Food and Beverage as a
Supervisor in The Grill In 2017 he was promoted to the Assistant Manager

WELCOME
Michael is originally born in Las Vegas Nevada but moved to Richmond Virginia as a
baby He began his hospitality career in 2006 at the age of 17 as a valet and has worked
in one role or another at The Country Club of Virginia ever since He attended Radford
University studying Criminal Justice but continued to work at CCV through school
breaks and summers before realizing a preferred career in the Hospitality Industry Af-
ter completing his studies at Radford University he was promoted The Country Club of
Virginia as the Member Services Supervisor in 2011 After working in the Member Ser-
vices Department for four years in 2016 he made the move to Food and Beverage as a
Supervisor in The Grill In 2017 he was promoted to the Assistant Manager
STEVEN C LAYDEN JR PRINCESS ANNE COUNTRY CLUB
A native of Virginia Beach VA Steve Layden has worked in the private country club
industry for nearly 20 years Steve currently serves as clubhouse restaurant manager for
the Princess Anne Country Club the same club where he began his career During his
tenure at the Princess Anne Steve has grown to love and appreciate the Clubrsquos members
and team referring to the club as ldquotruly my home away from homerdquo He believes that
itrsquos not work if you enjoy what you do
MICHAEL SALISBURY THE COUNTRY CLUB OF VIRGINIA
Charles is native of RICHMOND Va and a graduate of Armstrong high school Class of
94 Charles has three kids two girls and 1 boy Daughters are ages 25 and 20 and a Son age
19 Charles began working for The Country Club of Virginia in the December 2000 where
he served as a locker room attendant for the Westhampton clubhouse until September
2001 He then transferred to the James River Clubhouse upon opening to serve as locker
attendant there where his service continued for approximately two years Charles then ac-
cepted a role in the mens grill as a bartender Following six months of service Charles re-
ceived a promotion to serve as the Support Service Supervisor for the James River Club-
house and ultimately an additional promotion into his current role as the Clubhouse Opera-
tions Manager of The James River Clubhouse Charles looks forward to active participation
in CMAA

Michael is originally born in Las Vegas Nevada but moved to Richmond Virginia as a
baby He began his hospitality career in 2006 at the age of 17 as a valet and has worked
in one role or another at The Country Club of Virginia ever since He attended Radford
University studying Criminal Justice but continued to work at CCV through school
breaks and summers before realizing a preferred career in the Hospitality Industry Af-
ter completing his studies at Radford University he was promoted The Country Club of
Virginia as the Member Services Supervisor in 2011 After working in the Member Ser-
vices Department for four years in 2016 he made the move to Food and Beverage as a
Supervisor in The Grill In 2017 he was promoted to the Assistant Manager
STEVEN C LAYDEN JR PRINCESS ANNE COUNTRY CLUB
A native of Virginia Beach VA Steve Layden has worked in the private country club
industry for nearly 20 years Steve currently serves as clubhouse restaurant manager for
the Princess Anne Country Club the same club where he began his career During his
tenure at the Princess Anne Steve has grown to love and appreciate the Clubrsquos members
and team referring to the club as ldquotruly my home away from homerdquo He believes that
itrsquos not work if you enjoy what you do
MICHAEL SALISBURY THE COUNTRY CLUB OF VIRGINIA
Charles is native of RICHMOND Va and a graduate of Armstrong high school Class of
94 Charles has three kids two girls and 1 boy Daughters are ages 25 and 20 and a Son age
19 Charles began working for The Country Club of Virginia in the December 2000 where
he served as a locker room attendant for the Westhampton clubhouse until September
2001 He then transferred to the James River Clubhouse upon opening to serve as locker
attendant there where his service continued for approximately two years Charles then ac-
cepted a role in the mens grill as a bartender Following six months of service Charles re-
ceived a promotion to serve as the Support Service Supervisor for the James River Club-
house and ultimately an additional promotion into his current role as the Clubhouse Opera-
tions Manager of The James River Clubhouse Charles looks forward to active participation
in CMAA

Charles is native of RICHMOND Va and a graduate of Armstrong high school Class of
94 Charles has three kids two girls and 1 boy Daughters are ages 25 and 20 and a Son age
19 Charles began working for The Country Club of Virginia in the December 2000 where
he served as a locker room attendant for the Westhampton clubhouse until September
2001 He then transferred to the James River Clubhouse upon opening to serve as locker
attendant there where his service continued for approximately two years Charles then ac-
cepted a role in the mens grill as a bartender Following six months of service Charles re-
ceived a promotion to serve as the Support Service Supervisor for the James River Club-
house and ultimately an additional promotion into his current role as the Clubhouse Opera-
tions Manager of The James River Clubhouse Charles looks forward to active participation
in CMAA

Michael is originally born in Las Vegas Nevada but moved to Richmond Virginia as a
baby He began his hospitality career in 2006 at the age of 17 as a valet and has worked
in one role or another at The Country Club of Virginia ever since He attended Radford
University studying Criminal Justice but continued to work at CCV through school
breaks and summers before realizing a preferred career in the Hospitality Industry Af-
ter completing his studies at Radford University he was promoted The Country Club of
Virginia as the Member Services Supervisor in 2011 After working in the Member Ser-
vices Department for four years in 2016 he made the move to Food and Beverage as a
Supervisor in The Grill In 2017 he was promoted to the Assistant Manager
STEVEN C LAYDEN JR PRINCESS ANNE COUNTRY CLUB
A native of Virginia Beach VA Steve Layden has worked in the private country club
industry for nearly 20 years Steve currently serves as clubhouse restaurant manager for
the Princess Anne Country Club the same club where he began his career During his
tenure at the Princess Anne Steve has grown to love and appreciate the Clubrsquos members
and team referring to the club as ldquotruly my home away from homerdquo He believes that
itrsquos not work if you enjoy what you do
