Nanofibre is one of the fastest growing areas of nanotechnology worldwideThere are many uses for nanofibre – many well researched and in need of commercialization.

Benefits a partnership with Revolution Fibres can offer you:

Revolution Fibres has developed its Nanofibre

Customization Services program to help get nanofibre

concepts out of the laboratory and into the marketplace.

With in-house science and engineering expertise plus

strong relationships and access to a network of leading

advanced materials science providers, Revolution Fibres

can accommodate nanofibre product development

from concept through to large-scale manufacturing.

Revolution Fibres is one of the world’s leading producers

of nanofibre. Our proprietary Sonic Electrospinning

Technology creates functional fabrics with many diverse

properties and characteristics - from synthetic polymers

to biopolymers, with and without functional additives.

Revolution Fibres has created lab, pilot and industrial-

scale electrospinning machines (Sonic Electrospinning

Technology) that have the flexibility and capacity to

produce commercial quantities of nanofibre.

Recognized as NZ’s Most Innovative Business (NZ

Innovation Awards 2012 Supreme Winner) and

with strong engineering and scientific acumen (NZ

Engineering Excellence Awards 2012), Revolution Fibres

has unique expertise and production capacity, and is

well-placed to exploit nanofibre technology and develop

high value applications within key markets.

Innovation is what we do...

Through extensive research and development we have

evolved from lab-scale needle electrospinning to our

proprietary “needle-less” Sonic Electrospinning Technology.

Innovation in product, process and manufacturingSonic Electrospinning - a big step forward in nanofibre production

Benefits of Sonic Electrospinning Technology are:

n Adaptable – suitable for synthetic and bio-polymers

n Variety of solvents and substrates

n Uniform deposition, fibres typically 150-300nm

n Small to industrial-scale production

n Scalable

n Composite nanofibre membranes - capable of multiple

polymers in one pass

“The Chameleon” is our pilot-scale electrospinning machine; used for R&D and small to medium production runs

“The Komodo” is our commercial-scale electrospinning machine; to 2 metre wide; continuous production

Biomimicry

We like to let Mother Nature show us the way here at

Revolution Fibres. Look no further than the humble

Gecko’s foot to discover the amazing properties of

nanofibre in nature.

We have an ever-growing suite of materials that can be

converted to fibres or added to fibre as a functional

additive. New Zealand has rich and varied flora and

fauna, and we take pride in using bio- materials

wherever possible.

We capture the qualities of nature within a fibre and

apply them to everyday products and applications.

Electrospun Fabrics

Product benefits• Natural barrier to dust mites, bed bugs, allergens

• Infused with antibacterial manuka extract

• Breathable and comfortable

• Suitable for all pillow types (other sizes available)

• Anti-allergy bedding

• Hygienic Apparel

Market Opportunities• Consumer good – converted, packaged and exported

as a pillow liner

• Hospitality industry – hotels, motels, etc. A hygienic

pillow option

• Medical care – hospitals, elderly care, infants, cot

• Mattress protection

The Nanodream pillow lining is truly a revolution in healthy

sleep. Through a process called electrospinning, we are able

to create a barrier layer of fibres so microscopic they keep

out even the smallest of allergy causing dust mites, bed

bugs, fungi and bacteria.

Dust mites and their droppings are bad news for anyone

with allergies or asthma, and they typically inhabit bedding

and pillows. The Nanodream pillow lining eliminates this

issue not only by creating a natural barrier to dust mites,

but also by adding antibacterial manuka extract to the

electrospun lining, further helping to keep your pillow

free from unhealthy allergens, bacteria and fungi. Enjoy a

healthier sleep, free from unwanted pillow-bound nasties.

Product benefits• Increased interlaminar fracture toughness

• Increased impact resistance

• Increased fatigue life

• Increased flexural strength

• Increased interlaminar shear strength

• No decrease in flexural stiffness

• No decrease in glass transition temperature

• Reduced ply delamination

• Enhanced resin toughness

Market Opportunities• Xantulayr™ is the world’s only commercially available

nanofibre veil for composite reinforcement

• Revolution Fibres wish to work with companies in

applications in aerospace, automobile bodies, personal

protective equipment (helmets), marine and sporting goods

(fishing rods, oars, gun stocks, etc)

• In house expertise in composites – Dr Gareth Beckermann

(ex Hexcel), Brent Tucker (ex Rivers Carbon)

Xantu.Layr™ is the world’s only commercially available

nanofibre veil for composite reinforcement. It

improves composite mechanical properties, especially

interlaminar fracture toughness, impact resistance and

fatigue life, without having detrimental effects on other

mechanical and physical properties. All of these benefits

come with virtually no gain in weight or thickness of the

composite, and incorporation of the veil can be done in

one easy step during lay-up.

Xantulayr is now used by a growing number of fishing

rod companies. In other industries we continue to

explore the use of nanofibre veils in areas of impact

resistance, delamination, fatigue resistance, vibration

damping and more. With in-house composites engineers

we can help with design, testing and nanofibre

integration into your composite products.

Composites

product to hit the market featuring Xantu Layr technology.

What did it achieve?• Composite pole breaking loads doubled

• Fewer rejected composite poles during

manufacturing

• Improved composite pole part-to-part consistency

Cosmetics is only the tip of the iceberg with many
