How to Qualify for EOP&S1. Complete your FAFSA and qualify for a CA Community College Promise
Grant (CCPG, formerly called the “BOG”) fee waiver type A or B only
2. Complete the self-guided Math & English placements online
3. Complete the EOP&S Orientation and Application process
• EOP&S students who qualify will be eligible for the program for six (6) consecutive semesters and/or until they complete seventy (70) degree-
applicable units.
• Students who have completed 70+ degree-applicable units are not eligible for EOP&S services.
EOP&S REQUIREMENTS: General
To enroll in EOP&S services, you must:
• Complete both the Math & English self-guided placements
• Complete academic advising with an Abbreviated Educational Plan on file
• Agree to take only the classes listed on your EOP&S Educational Plan (created with the help of an EOP&S counselor)
• Not add/drop courses without your EOP&S counselor’s approval
If you are currently attending or have attended another accredited college besides MJC, you must have those transcripts sent to MJC and have them EVALUATED by the Evaluations Department. EOP&S applications will
NOT be processed until this step is completed.
EOP&S Requirements: Enrollment
• All new EOP&S students must be enrolled in 12 units or more during their first semester in the program. After your first semester in EOP&S, you must remain in at least 6 units or you will be subject to removal
from the program.
• If you are enrolled in 12+ units and we notify you that you are eligible for EOP&S services, but you drop below 12 units before the first day of the semester, your eligibility will be revoked for that semester. You will
have to re-apply the following semester.
• You must be registered for 12+ units in order to schedule your first EOP&S counseling appointment.
• You must be registered for 12+ units AND have scheduled your first EOP&S counseling appointment in order to receive a book voucher.
EOP&S Requirements: Exceptions
• Students enrolled in the Disabled Student Programs & Services (DSPS) program who have a Notification of Authorized Services (NAS) form that identifies a lower recommended number of units per semester may qualify for EOP&S services with
fewer than 12 units.
• Students may request a reduced load (9-11.5 units) for their first semester in EOP&S, but requests must be approved by the EOP&S director before a student
can be accepted into the program with fewer than 12 units. Please note: the number of students the program can enroll in a reduced load capacity in any semester is
limited.
EOP&S Requirements: Counseling Appts
• It is MANDATORY that students make three (3) counseling contacts each semester (except summer) in order to remain eligible in EOP&S.
• Appointments should be at least 3 weeks apart, and all EOP&S appointments must be made with an EOP&S counselor.
FAILURE TO COMPLETE 3 COUNSELING CONTACTS EACH SEMESTER WILL RESULTS IN YOUR REMOVAL FROM EOP&S.
EOP&S Requirements: Counseling Appts
• You MAY NOT BE LATE to your counseling appointments.
• Students who are more than 5 minutes late to their counseling appointment will be considered a “No Show.” In order to make up missed or No Show appointments, students
will need to contact their counselor or EOP&S staff to be put on a walk-in list.
• Students who have multiple No Shows will be required to meet with the program director to get approval to remain in the program.
• Students who do not make up their appointments and fail to complete the required 3 counseling appointments for the semester will be removed from EOP&S and cannot re-
apply for a full year.
EOP&S Requirements: Cancelation/Reschedule Policy
• Students wishing to cancel or reschedule their appointment must give the EOP&S Office at least 24 hours’ notice. Students who do not give at least 24 hours’ notice WILL NOT be rescheduled.
• Students who miss their appointments must make them up by signing up for a walk-in appointment (taking place virtually during Covid). These appointments are not guaranteed, and they occur when counselors have scheduled walk-in time or when other students miss their appointments.
EOP&S Requirements: Counseling Appts
During periods of remote learning, all EOP&S counseling appointments will take place over Zoom.
Your counselor will send a Zoom link to your student email before your scheduled appointment time.
Please be mindful of distractions & interruptions during any online appointments.
